Do you think Josh Smith could fit with the Rockets and fill our defensive void?

Add rights to Llull and maybe another pick. Two picks, young talent and an expiring should sound enticing.

Lets say they were to get a deal like Jeffries, Taylor, rights to Llull and picks for Henry and Thabeet, they would still have more than enough assets to make a deal for Iggy.

    Philly gets:
    Battier
    Hill
    Johnson
    Chase
last of 2012 picks(whichever one not given to Memphis)
    cash

    Houston gets:
    Iggy
    Smith

This should make all teams involved happy. Or is this too much?

I'm going to guess that New York has around the #9-10 pick next year, same as this. In that case, here's what I would do if I were Morey: wait until the offseason and then throw everything including the kitchen sink at whichever team is picking 2nd (Golden State? Minnesota? Cleveland?) to move up from #9 to #2.

    The NBA draft mock ranks:

With the #2 pick we would select Kyrie Irving, the second coming of Chris Paul.

I know Draftexpress has him rated at #9 in their mock, but I guarantee you people will look at Irving and dream of Paul, and that will shoot his stock up. You know why? Because he's that good. We'll have to obtain our superstar through the draft more than likely; might as well move as many assets as it takes to get there.

We'd be giving up too much in such a deal. Although Iggy is the sort of player we need, Morey won't do to himself what he did to Walsh at the deadline.

Our roster would look like this

    Brooks/Lowry
    Martin/Henry
    Iguodala/Ariza
    Scola/Patterson/Smith
    Yao/Miller/Thabeet

Coachbadlee, this is a more plausible trade scenario then the one you brought a few times. You want something, you give something and an unproven 2 round pick with a non worthy expiring doesnt do anything for them. They dont need cap relief

I thought if i stopped talking about Golden State, you would agree.
I just noticed that Memphis has all expirings except for one.
    Oh well.

    lol!
Its kinda hard to come up with a trade now if its not a superstar/all star.

I mean we have good assets but a lot of trades that are available (rumors or not) are not that big an upgrade. Especially for what they expect in return.

Like Henry, they would want something like CB or or someone else a bit proven for a lottery pick.

I like seeing a Monta coming off the bench as our own Terry but we'd have to give up a bit for him.

How bout Jeffries + Battier + Taylor + Patterson + NY draft picks for Wallace + Diop

    Brooks/Lowry
    Martin/Budinger
    Wallace/Ariza
    Scola/Hill/Hayes
    Yao/Miller/Diop

Man I like Wallace. Dumping Diop is a good side for them but honestly, ever since they got Jackson, Wallace and Jackson have been a nasty combo and has been working good for them. Dunno if they would disrupt that.

Hell, no! I saw that proposal in the other thread, too.

Wallace is a very good player, but he's not ideal in Adelman's system. Remember Brad Miller's comments in his press conference? Sure, Wallace has matured and so has his game, but he's not much of a shooter, and the Rockets have enough rebounding with Yao, Scola, Hill and Miller. Ariza rebounds fairly well at the SF position, as well.

You're also looking at taking on an albatross contract in Diop (owed $7.4M in 2013). This trade would assure that the Rockets are in luxury tax hell for the foreseeable future, without even necessarily improving them all that much.

    No, thanks.

I agree completely. Let's use this year to see what's Yao's capable of from this point forward and see which of our young guys is going to step up and contribute. With a healthy Yao, we'll get to (or past) the 2nd round and see what we can do. Then next summer, we use these assets Morey's been stockpiling to move up in the draft and grab a true superstar.

Hey, I wanted to chime in with a minor (but over-arching) comment regarding trades, but I didn't want to start another thread about it. This has to do with how people refer to the Rockets' two 2012 first round picks when proposing random trades.

People casually throw out that they'd be willing to trade the Rockets' own 2012 pick, assuming that it will be the later of the two picks. However, there is no guarantee that the Rockets will finish with a better record than the Knicks (or that the Knicks might not sneak into the playoffs in the East with a worse record than the Rockets, who might barely miss the playoffs in the West). So, don't make that assumption when offering up a concrete asset.

Better to offer up the following asset in trades when referencing that pick:

"The lower of the Rockets' 2012 first round pick and the Knicks' 2012 first round pick"

It is more accurate and also protects the Rockets against the unexpected event that the Rockets' pick is actually higher than the Knicks' pick.

Also, the Rockets could offer up their 2011 pick and/or one of their 2012 picks with some increased protections. For example, the Rockets could conceivably offer up the 2011 pick (which is top-1 protected if it's the Knicks' pick) as follows:

"The higher of the Rockets' 2011 first round pick and the Knicks' 2011 first round pick (top-5 protected)"

This way, if EITHER the Knicks' or the Rockets' pick lands in the #2 to #5 range (or #1 overall, in the Rockets' case), the Rockets can still keep that pick.

Just wanted to add some clarity to future random trade proposals.

    That is all.

If by "brandon wright", you mean Chris Paul, then maybe.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this rumor is BS. No way the Rockets do that. They'd rather have Battier than any of the players they are getting in that deal.

They might even rather have Jeffries than any of the player they are getting in that deal.
