Do you think Josh Smith could fit with the Rockets and fill our defensive void?

will we have enough to sign a max fa (even though carmelo isnt coming here) if Gasol got a huge pay raise?

You could ask the same about Brooks.

Anyway, the Ellis/Biedrins trade scenario seems more realistic now seeing as they are both on the trading block.
What about Battier, Hill, JT, Jeffries, picks and cash?
Picturing Ellis coming off the bench playing alongside Lowry is making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. ;) Our bench would rule the league and could even be our starting line-up.
    Lowry
    Ellis
    Bud
    Biedrins
    Miller/Chuck
    OOOOOOOO!!!!

    Lets see

    Martin (12m)
    Luis (9m)
    Ariza (6.7m)
    Lowry (5.7m)
    Miller (4.7m)
    Hill (2.9m)
    Taylor (.9m)

    =41.9 Million

Gasol (7) and Brooks (4) will have cap holds. May have to dump someone or do a sign and trade, but its feasable. Really all depends on how the new CBA pans out.

I know this doesnt pertain to the topic at hand .. but I did not want to make a whole new forum for this.. Is anyone else as sick and tired of the so called "king" jermome solomon continual bashing of the rockets when its apparent that all he is trying to do is take out a personnel vandetta against the organization ..

No. I think he is paid to be the antagonist. Obviously it pays to be the bad guy.

I've brought that up plenty of times in other forums, so true.

and lol, you are so on that trade w/Warriors. Its just a lopsided trade for us. I think even adding CB wont help much who is a proving young player other then JT who hasnt proven crap besindes hogging the ball.

i like the monta elli trade. ellis as a backup SG would be so money. but i doubt he will want to play backup minutes. although, a lineup of
    brooks/lowry (either)
    ellis
    martin
    scola
    yao

would be siiiick.....but we would have no defense. that would be really tough to spread out the minutes of brooks, lowry, martin, ellis. but biedrins would be a great addition, he is like a 7ft. chuck hayes. give biedrins 20 minutes and he'll get 10 rebounds and 6 fouls.

Martin would get killed if we slid him to the 3.

Ellis would be sick, but I'd rather not have him at all than move kmart to the 3... our defense would get eaten alive.

It would be best to bring either Martin or Ellis off the bench. That way we would still have a balanced attack from both the starters and the bench. You are right that Martin can and should not play the three. If they were to trade JT in the package then you would have Bud as your back-up 3.
    Brooks/Lowry/Ish
    Martin/Ellis
    Ariza/Bud
    Scola/Biedrins/Patman
    Yao/Miller/Chuck
    ;)

Gasol's cap hold would be about $7.15M and (as noted above) Brooks's cap hold will be $6.05M. After your proposed trade, the Rockets would have over $57M in committed salaries and cap holds. That would give the Rockets only about $1-2M in cap room. Assuming that the MLE still exists under the new CBA, the Rockets would just opt to keep their MLE in lieu of the cap room. Thus, no cap flexibility next summer if they make this move.

I really like Marc Gasol. I'm just saying that the Rockets would have no cap room if they made this deal, which isn't necessarily a reason not to do that deal.

so guess the real question is how Yao pans out this year? Ohhh and maybe he'd sign hella less to know a good 6th man is onboard or agrees to become that good 6th man, yeaaaaah ;S

Atlanta is rumored to have been shopping Josh Smith earlier this summer and are trying to move Al Horford to his natural position at powerfoward. After signing Joe Johnson to a max contract, they are also looking for salary cap relief.

How bout expiring contract of Battier + Jeffries + Hill + non guaranteed contracts of Johnson + Harris + Taylor for Josh Smith and Maurice Evans?

They can also maybe go after Shaq, who they were interested in.

    Brooks/Lowry
    Martin/Evans
    Ariza/Budinger
    Scola/Smith/Patterson
    Yao/Miller/Hayes

    Bibby/Teague
    Johnson/Crawford
    Williams/Battier
    Horford/Powell
    Shaq/Pachullia/Collins

Also, Smith can be the perfect weakside shotblocker next to Yao and his midrange game is pretty decent, much like Scola's, but not as superb as his.

He can be our poorman's version of Otis Thorpe, also can you imagine Smith in the 2nd unit leading a fastbreak with Lowry as the facilitator? We would lead the league in alley oops.

First of all, the Hawks have gone on record recently as saying that they have NO INTEREST WHATSOEVER in moving Horford to PF. They like him at center.

Second, I actually have little interest in Josh Smith. He's simply not a smart player. And Les isn't going to pay all that money for a backup.

First of all, the Hawks have gone on record as to saying they prefer to have Horford move to his natural position as the fourman because of their recent playoff struggles against mismatches at the center position, especially against the Magic

    http://blogs.ajc.com/hawks/2010/07/04/atlanta-hawks-al-horfords-summer/

Also, what gives you the idea that Smith can't play Small Foward? With Brooks and Martin in the lineup, I see no reason why he can't. Him being a smart or dumb player is just your opinion, do you have proof that he isn't a smart player? He was the only one to show up in the playoffs against the Magic last season, unlike their max guy Joe Johnson.

He is that defensive presence that we sorely need. Him starting along side Yao and Scola is legit. He is a poor man's LeBron. His versatility, shot blocking, and athleticism is what we are missing.

maybe this year isnt what they are worried about.

Horford will command a pretty penny next year.
