yes Pretty sure you could just give away a draft pick for nothing if you wanted too, unless of course you break the consequtive first rule.
Jonathan_Feigen Don't think so. Denver seems uninterested. RT @------------: @Jonathan_Feigen Are the Rockets a factor in a revised Anthony trade scenario?
I don't think the Rockets will come but this is my best attempt at a trade. To Denver Yao Ming (expiring) Jordan Hill Chase Budinger Shane Battier (expiring) Jared Jeffries (expiring) 2012 Knicks 1st 2014 Rockets 1st 2011 Clippers 2nd To Rockets Nene Harrington Melo In a separate deal To denver Rockets trade exception To Rockets Renaldo Blackman (is that his name) That's the best savings deal I can think off that lands Denver a bit of assets. Yao Mings contract is insured and apparently $8M will go to whoever ends up with him, whether Houston or another team. Forgot to add Rockets Depth Chart C: Nene/Hayes/Miller PF: Scola/Patterson/Harrington SF: Melo/Williams/Blackman SG: Martin/Lee PG: Lowry/Brooks/Smith I'm not sure about Nuggets, don't remember their roster and don't feel like looking it up. Overall, as we get closer to the deadline, the Nuggets are going to be desperate to get something for Melo. This deal nets them a few young talents, a few picks, and all expiring contracts. Quite frankly, I think this is a good deal. Just think of what Toronto, Cleveland, and Suns lost their players for, a trade exception and a pick. Might as well get some assets now while getting rid of some contracts to start the rebuilding process. I posted that on another message board. Please note that I did forget to take Scola's BYC status into consideration so the trade might need some tweaking.
Houston Trade Breakdown Change in Team Outlook: +6.6 ppg, -3.2 rpg, and +1.8 apg. Incoming Players Troy Murphy 6-11 PF from Notre Dame 3.6 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 0.9 apg in 16.0 minutes Devin Harris 6-3 PG from Wisconsin 9.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 4.0 apg in 23.9 minutes Brook Lopez 7-0 C from Stanford 23.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 0.0 apg in 24.8 minutes Outgoing Players Ming Yao 7-6 C from China (Foreign) 10.2 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 0.8 apg in 18.1 minutes Luis Scola 6-9 PF from Buenos Aires (Argentina) 19.3 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 2.3 apg in 33.4 minutes = way cool !
Houston gets: Derrick Favors Troy Murphy Anthony Morrow G.State 1st rd pick NJ Nets get: Kevin Martin Luis Scola Aaron Brooks NY 2012 pick Rest of the year, Rotation: Lowry | Smith C.Lee | Morrow T. Williams | Budinger J. Hill | Patterson D. Favors | Murphy
Anthony, Andersen, Billups, Harrington, and Nene to Houston for both TEs, Yao, Jeffries, Brooks, Budinger, Hill, Patterson, Williams, and a draft pick. PG: Billups/Lowry SG: Martin/Lee SF: Anthony/Battier PF: Scola/Hayes/Harrington C: Nene/Andersen/Miller Denver gets massive salary relief plus five young players and a pick. Houston gets an all-star and a top 10 center without giving up a starter. Rockets finish in the WCF at a minimum, Knicks get blown out in the first round, and Carmelo signs a fat extension with us instead of taking less to join NY.
As we approach the January 31 expiration of the Yao DPE, I am beginning to wonder how/whether the Rockets intend to use it. It may well be that it is in the team's best interest not to use it. But If Morey likes him enough for the gamble, I'm finally starting to think that it wouldn't be such a bad idea to approach Memphis about trading for Hasheem Thabeet using that DPE. The Griz might just listen, as that trade would (a) save them a few million bucks this year and (b) give them another $5M+ in financial wiggle room to re-sign Marc Gasol, which they want to do badly. Hell, it may even help them be able to re-sign Zach Randolph. Plus, if Morey extends them a "gentlemen's agreement" not to pursue Gasol this offseason (considering that Houston would be one of the top bidders for Gasol otherwise), they'd have to strongly consider it. Throw in the 2011 HOU/LAC second rounder, trade Ish Smith to them (or elsewhere) in a separate "Jermaine Taylor-like" deal, and he may have himself a deal. The Rockets would then need to closely evaluate Thabeet for the remainder of this season to see if he fits their long range plans, since they'd have to exercise his fourth-year option (at, ugh!, $6.47M) BEFORE next season begins or risk him becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2012. That said, I'm not sure if I necessarily do this deal after the DPE expires. That Ariza TPE may still be able to be used in a more significant set of deals. I think, given the expiration date of the DPE, Thabeet's as good a player as the Rockets could hope to steal off another team's roster. So, the clock's ticking. If Morey thinks he's at all worth it, and if Les is willing to fork over the extra moola to make it happen, get to it!
Thabeet would be a free agent in 2013. Personally, I'm not convinced about him, but if we trade for him that would be a encoraging sign considering he is the most expensive project in the league.
Thabeet looked like Hilton Armstrong at some points last night but played better as the game went on. I think he needs playing time, not sure if the Rockets are willing to offer him that with their drive for the 8th seed. I would bring him on board and play him, see what he has and pick up the option, it's expensive but he also then becomes an expiring contract next season, no?
Had to bump this so we wouldnt have a million trade threads pop up. Bima, your ealier post is consistent with what I said earlier about thabeet. He's a devloping player no doubt, but he's a natural defender. Sure he will be out of position at times, but his frame and range will allow him to recover from those mistakes. If they make a trade for thabeet, I would like to see other trades to make sure we get a very, very good look at him. TBH, i would clear the deck for thabeet, hill, and patterson. That would probably mean trading scola, chuck, and miller, but i think its worth the risk.
My new lineup if we blow-up and go young. There are rumours about Curry, Mayo and Thabeet. Everyone in my starting line up can play defence. Curry, Mayo and T-Will are excellent penetrators, play makers and fairly atheletic too.. The 3 of them would be awesome to watch. None of them look to be injury prone either. Battier and Hayes will be the captains. Curry/Smith Mayo/Battier T-Will/A.Randolph PPat/Hayes Thabeetl/????? With good back up, we can build in the Detroit model since superstars are too hard to come by. Maybe turn one of these guys nto a Superstar.
How about David West and Emeka Okafor? Yeah I'd love CP3 but it probably ain't happening. Right now the Hornets are likley to lose West to FA and they have been wanting to get out from uner Okafor's contract for years. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AvdXwP8lJCdfTFNZWSzkvCs5nYcB?slug=aw-westhornets012411 The future of the New Orleans Hornets has long been centered on Chris Paul(notes), but much of this season – and beyond – hinges on the contract extension talks the franchise’s front office has entered into with forward David West. New Orleans general manager Dell Demps has discussed the framework of a multiyear deal with West’s agents at Octagon, but the Hornets’ hopes of getting him signed prior to the Feb. 24 trade deadline is “not likely at all,” one source close to the talks told Yahoo! Sports. David West can opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent. West plans to opt out of the $7.5 million owed him in the final season of a five-year, $45 million contract and expects to command north of $10 million a season on the market, sources said. “It’s hard to see an extension happening here,” one source said. So how about some combo of Scola, Battier/JJ, Bud and or Hill, and or picks?
PLEASE PLEASE trade Brooks and Hill. Addition by subtraction. At this point, I'd take two late lottery picks for them.
Time to blow this mofo up! Rockets get D.Favors, Paul George, Johan Petro and Mike Dunleavy - Rockets get two more lotto picks from this past draft class also sheds roughly 10 million in salary for next season. Petro will be the new Brian Cook and Dunleavy along with JJ are wavied. Pacers get Kevin Martin and Aaron Brooks - Larry Bird is looking to deal and with this being his likely last year, along with O'Brien they need to make a splash. They get the most efficient SG in the league and a combo guard to go with Collison. Gives AB a fresh start and makes it an all out war for their PGuard spot. Nets get Luis Scola and Pacers #1 this season - Nets get Scola, who they have been after since the summer to pair with Lopez and an additional #1 pick to add to their collection. Lowry/Ish Lee/T-Will Battier/Bud/George PPat/Hayes/Petro Favors/Hill/Miller/Petro/Yao Lets the young guys play and gives you a ton more cap flexibility next season and in 2012 when the next wave of big FAgents come into play. Also note the Rockets would have a potential lotto pick and VERY high 2nd rd pick along with the possibility of two more picks in 2012 draft since the Knicks won't get the top pick and all likelihood is that the T-Will pick will be a lotto exercised choice.
Interesting idea, rockets934life. Assuming the Nets would agree to that deal (I'm skeptical), I'd strongly consider this deal from our end. We would need a second deal in place to acquire some backcourt depth, though. Battier/Bud/George/T-Will are basically all NBA 3's -- we would need to flip one for a PG or SG. Any thoughts on that? Swaps like Battier for T.J. Ford or Bud for Marcus Thornton could make sense given that situation. Just a couple ideas off the top of my head.
