http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=4rhl9lt Rockets get: Chandler, Curry, Azu Nuggets get: Yao, Budinger, Randolph, Gallinari + 2012 Knicks pick + 2015 Knicks pick + 3 million from Knicks Knicks get: Melo, Harrington, Andersen, Smith Houston: Huge upgrade at SF for the price of Budinger, Ish, what looks to be a 20+ pick and Yao's contract. Might actually get a sleeper asset if Azu can return. Denver: This is what you get when Melo talks with NJ go nowwhere. Better than a rental price which would be your only other offer. You get to remove a bad contract off your books with Birdman and remove a player that doesn't quite fit with a long contract in Harrington. You keep 4 of your starting 5 and replace Melo with Gallinari. Increase the effectiveness of your bench at a much smaller price plus get your wish of getting younger. Throw in a couple of picks and some cash and that's not a bad plan B. Play your cards right and you will probably still make the playoffs this year. Next year allows you to add to what you already have. NY: You get your man early - early enough to make some noise. Amare and his huge points aren't enough for a W anymore. Melo will take some pressure off others and push them to the next level. Harrington is a nice bonus back that can really help the front line. You might be eating Birdman's contract for years but considering all the bad contracts you've eaten over the years, its just an appitizer. And who knows, maybe he can come back someday.
Step inside the inner workings of my brain and imagine a scenario in which Melo refuses to accept an extension to anyone but NY. Therefore the following trade takes place between Houston, Denver, and Atlanta. Rockets receives: Melo, Billups, Nene, Harrington (TPE), Birdman (TPE) Denver receives: Josh Smith, Yao, Battier, Bibby, Budinger, Hill, Jeff Teague, Etan Thomas (filler) + 2012 1st Rd. NY Pick, 2011 2nd Rd. Clippers Pick Atlanta receives: Scola, Brooks, Jeffries, Ish http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=4v5gzf7 So this is all based on Melo not agreeing to an extension with anybody except the Knicks. If this happens Denver's leverage will obviously be decreased. Denver is now looking at Melo rental offers instead of extension offers and I feel Rockets have what it takes to make all three sides of the trade satisfied. Once Melo denies any extension except to NY, Denver will not get back nearly as much talent as they would if Melo went to the Nets with an extension. They can forget about Favors. So in comes Josh Smith who is a very talented player, a player that I've seen many a posts around here saying they wouldn't mind having him on our team. Also the dude will still sell tickets for Denver. They'll be able increase their pace even more without Melo isolation and Smith and Smith finishing the break. Plus they'll get Hill, Budinger, Teague, and the Knicks and Clippers Picks for talent they can develop. They get this immediately from the expiring contracts of Yao and Battier. And while Smith and Bibby both have years remaining on their contracts, the total of their salaries is still less than the total of Billups, Nene, Birdman, and Harrington. Now why would the Hawks make this trade. Simply Joe Johnson makes too much money and Josh Smith will be up for a pay raise in less than 3 years. Scola fits in with Johnson's contract's timeframe and will cost less than Smith. So instead of having to pay another player a larger salary they pay two players about the same amount and get better overall. They upgrade their point position with Brooks who can play the same role as Bibby but much better at this point in his career. And while they do downgrade the power forward position a little with Scola, its not by much. Personally I think Scola and Johnson would play very well together. And Brooks playing off the ball is very useful for Johnson who likes to handle the ball. And now for the Rockets side. Simply put this is the chance to convince a star they know what they're doing. I believe both Morey and Adelman know how to make a strong sales pitch. Especially Morey. There is no way he can make the trades he does without having to pitch his side of the deal. And as we've all seen the trades usually favor the Rockets. Convince how we'll be putting out a team with a great chance to win a championship. We would have it all. The big shot point guard, the efficient shooting guard, the clutch small forward, a great defensive front court, and on top of all that an amazing bench. Plus we will now be a great spot for some of Melo's friends. Now I don't know if this will have any effect on Melo but I believe Morey has a fighting chance. So what happens if Melo leaves? Simple, we do a sign and trade with the Knicks and get Randolph and Chandler out of them. Which I would say isn't a bad haul. Plus we still have Billups and Nene both of whom are quite good and will have expiring contracts next season. So if the above trade somehow manages to take place the Rockets until the end of this year will be: Billups, Lowry Martin, Lee Melo, Williams Hayes, Harrington, Patterson Nene, Miller, Anderson And if Melo leaves for NY in the summer and we do the sign and trade: Billups, Lowry Martin, Lee Chandler, Williams Patterson, Randolph, Hayes, Harrington Nene, Miller, Anderson Hopefully Morey will be able to pull another Ariza trade and swap the Harrington or Anderson contract for a TPE and a rookie contract. And even looking further down the road you'll be equipped with 2 larger expiring contracts and players like Martin, Lowry, Patterson, Chandler, Lee, Williams, and Randolph to look into players like Chris Paul and Dwight Howard. And that's the end of my random trade.
You know this fails? You think we can get Chandler. You said it yourself, he is going to NYK regardless. Dont you realize this means we would have no leverage either. You would get a second round plus TE. Chandler. HAHAHAHAHHA He is a reason for their success right now. You think Carmelo doesnt want to win? He sits to catch a breath and Chandler comes in, not skipping a beat. Chandler would be 6th man of the year legit, or PF with Amare on C. Screw losing potential players for the future for 10 more wins this season.
Dallas is now on a 6 game losing streak DMorey give a call to Cuban get Brendan Haywood for a bag of peanuts and Shane Battier to replace Butler.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=5tf45fn NYK get Melo, Scola, 2012 NYK 1st round (from Rox), future first (from NYK) Denver gets Gallinari, Randolph, Fields (all prospects) and Battier, Curry (all expirings) with 1st round picks Houston gets Chandler, Harrington and S.Williams and possibly a second rounder from NYK for taking Harrington's contract and providing 1st rounder. NYK gets Melo early with Scola playing the four and Amare at the C is just plain dangerous. Denver gets the picks, the expirings and prospects. Rids Harrington's ugly contract. Houston get Chandler, a young and growing improvement at the 3. Picks up Harrington, bleh, but can provide minutes off the bench. Pattersen gets more minutes, hopefully starting. We lose the NYK pick but with Melo going to NYK most likely, it would have been a playoff type draft pick.
just plain awful for the rockets. we lose a first round pick and one of our top players, and our best defender for an average wing, where we already have better wings, a awful contract in harrington and shelden frickin williams.
Your first two trades are off the hook, I would actually pay some money of my own to see them happen. As for the bottom two, although not so great on paper, I would do as well. The reasons are pretty obvious.
lol, if you think that first round pick does anything once Melo is there then I want the drugs you are on. Our 2011 swap is trash right now and Melo isnt even there. (give you a hint, Chandler is balling his ass off right now, Melo wont even be that much of an upgrade over him) You have to give up something to get something. Scola is already getting old and he has no defense. Pattersen on the other hand is scoring at a higher percentage and playing 10x times better defense, cost 10x less and is improving 10x more. On top of that, with more minutes, he can only improve faster. thats sad. I hope you watch Chandler tomorrow. Battiers age has caught up to him. Chandler is already a defensive presence who can score. On top of that, he is younger and still getting better. Who dude? Lee? Williams? Go fly a kite, you are freaking ridiculous. You knowledge of our rookies vs other team players seems to be that on the level of your screen names number of games in the league. I wont argue this point, but this is the main selling point for our side. Umm, an expiring 800k contract? Is this seriously a reason? whiskey tango foxtrot, holybbqbatman
Big Fat FAIL. Simply because a sign & trade cannot be done with new york involving multiple players. Everything else would look great, and even if we do a sign & trade with them i would be in favor even if we lose him for nothing since we got nene and billups to start with martin, williams, and patterson.
You do realize Chandler will be a RFA this summer? So we're trading Scola, Battier and a 1st to get Chandler and take on Harrington?
RFA meaning we can match anyone Are you really making a deal outta a late 1st? The Scola part is money reducing and giving Pattersen the time he deserves. Pattersen with more time can be deadly.
No idea where to post this so I'll leave it here ADC (NJ) If the Nets do not get Melo, what do you think should be their Plan B? Chad Ford (1:17 PM) Really good question. The Nets have a bunch of assets right now and want to improve dramatically. They pursued Danny Granger at draft time and could pick up the pursuit again. I've also heard rumblings about a Luis Scola & Kevin Martin deal with the Rockets. While those guys aren't superstars like Melo, they help their team and won't cost them as much to get them.
I am down for either or, but not both. Unless both is for Brook.....? Thing is I am confident about Patterson but don't know about Williams yet.
Moreys out of nowhere trade: Aaron Brooks, Jared Jeffries, Chase Budinger, Luis Scola, and NYK draft pick for CP3. Then TE for Deandre Jordan
