Yes, but look at the talent, leadership, experience, toughness and youth we are left with.....Plus we have three superstars in Melo, CP3 and Billups. Add allstars Nene and Harrington and we are set to contend NOW more than ever.

Do consider that trading for CP3 wasnt part of my original plan, it was just in case Melo wasnt buying a lineup made up of:

    Billups/Lowry/I.Smith
    Lee/JRSmith/Williams
    Anthony/Budinger
    Harrington/Hill/Patterson
    Nene/Miller/Hayes

The most important thing to realize about Melo actually signing an extention is that HE has to actually want to be there. Essentially he is going to make millions anywhere he plays. The difference is his WIFE and the life he wants to live with. He and his wife want to go where the ATTENTION is and HOUSTON unfortunately cant give them what they truly want. He's going to NYC at the end of the day IMHO.

The only problem i kinda see with my own proposal is that DEN is letting JR Smith go and not getting much in return. Especially when there are rumors that other teams (like Bulls) are interested and considering giving Taj Gibson

Marcus Camby to Orlando? But wouldn't mind Houston. by Sekou Smith

HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS – When I made the joke to NBA TV analyst Brent “Bones” Barry Tuesday during The Jump about this being a great time for NBA trade rumors, he reminded me of the flip side.

“It’s not a great time for player to hear their names in all these rumors,” Barry said.

Count Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby among those players that don’t seem terribly excited about being in the trade-rumor mix these days. The pre-Christmas chatter had Camby and veteran teammates Andre Miller going to Charlotte in a deal for D.J. Augustin and Gerald Wallace — a scenario (rumored, mind you) that apparently outraged the 15-year veteran to the point that a source told ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard:

“If he was traded to Charlotte, he would think about retiring,’’ the source said. “He’s made plenty of money. He’d rather play, but he’s at the point in his career where he doesn’t want to get bounced around from team to team. If he’s traded, it would have to be to a contender.’’

Surely, Orlando qualifies as just that, a contender.

We have to admit, a trade that would send Camby to Orlando — where he could work alongside Dwight Howard — intrigues. The Magic have fortified their perimeter with their recent deals for Hedo Turkoglu, Jason Richardson and Gilbert Arenas. Where they were left vulnerable was inside, by moving Marcin Gortat to Phoenix and getting young, raw big man Earl Clark in return.

With Howard, Camby, Clark and Brandon Bass up front, the Magic would certainly have the bodies needed to fight the Celtics and Heat in a playoff series. (Don’t think Magic GM Otis Smith hasn’t already dreamed about that.)

Granted, we hate to speculate on Camby’s future, especially after thinking about what Bones said about players dreading this time of year before the February trade deadline, when seemingly everyone is in play.

Broussard made it clear that even a move to a contender like the Magic doesn’t excite Camby all that much, not at this stage of his career:

His ultimate desire is to remain in Portland. After signing a two-year, $21 million extension with the Blazers in the spring, Camby moved his family to Portland and has his two young daughters enrolled in school there. <font size=''6''>One place Camby wouldn’t mind going is Houston, where he lives in the offseason.</font>

With productive big men at a premium, several clubs are interested in Camby’s services. He’s still averaging 11 rebounds and 1.8 blocks a game, which would provide a huge boost to any contender. While acquiring Camby is probably a long shot, Orlando is one team I’m told has an interest.

But if we’re going to play the trade-rumor game for the next six to eight weeks, I’d rather we do it with players that will actually change the dynamic of the entire league.

So we know that there has been discussions with Sacromento recently, as we seem to every year. Some may scoff at the proposed deal of Yao, Patterson for Dalembart and Cousins, but it does reveal some of the Rockets thinking. It is a starting point, but we also see what the Rockets are trying to offer: financial relief, and young talent to replace a volatile D. Cousins who is not working out for the Kings. Rockets fans should not underestimate two things, 1) the amount of money the Kings are losing, like the Hornets 2) how bad the Cousins situation is.

So let's examine how negotiations could play out as the antes are raised.

I like that they are starting the bargaining with Patterson, presumably so that they can "raise" it to more desirable prospects like J. Hill. Even though I suspect that internally the Rockets may value Patterson more. So let's say the counter offer for young talent goes to Hill + Budinger + 2012 NY pick.

As for the financial aspect, in addition to Dalembart, we include Garcia as well, making an offer of:

    Hill, Budinger
    Yao
    2012 pick

    for

    Dalembart, Garcia
    Cousins

If Kings balk at that, then we have one final trump card. Add in Brooks for Udrih.

The Kings get young talent, a future draft pick, and a player they have long coveted in Brooks. All the while, they save a lot of money the next few years by shedding Garcia and Udrih's contracts. Plus they get the $8M in savings from a Yao/Dalembart swap. Which cannot be underestimated with a franchise in turmoil and bleeding cash.

And if they are worried about losing a potential franchise player in Cousins, well, they are on pace for another shot at one in next year's draft anyways.

How about Yao straight up for Greg Oden since Les is now low on money according to a post on this forum so Oden can star as "Tuggs" in the adult version of Miami Vice Co-staring Chase as "Crotchett" since he has lost all ability to play basketball.

You have a big issue of the teams in your proposal trading less players than they are receiving back.

CX -- where did you see Patterson was included in the Kings deal? I haven't seen that reported, but it would make sense.

Crap, just went back to read it and it was actually Yao alone for Dalembart and Cousins. That is even more of a lowball offer. But it is safe to assume that we would add young talent if negotiations are to get serious.

I don't think people here realize how dire the situation is with the Kings. Their coaching staff and management team are in turmoil and may be on the ropes soon. A reporter recently overheard the Maloofs talking about overhauling the organization from top to bottom. And they still haven't gotten funding for a new arena which has taken ages, while attendance have now plummeted with a team that looks like it has no hope of turning it all around.

I've been following them all year because of my interest in Cousins, and based on a presumed interest from Morey and Co. A lot of the flack he is catching right now stems from being an immature kid in a very, very bad situation. Management and the coaching staff are equally at fault for some of his recent run ins. Specifically the coaching staff, as I get the feeling that they are scapegoating him for many of the team's failures. The result is they have completely lost Cousins as a player. Which is why I think with a good enough offer, he is attainable.

Here is a post from Kingsfans.com/forum that illustrates how some of their fans feel:
I think that this situation, along with the Hornets situation, along with the Carmelo situation may present us with some opportunities as the trade deadline approaches. Armed with Yao's insured contract, young guns, some nice vet near-stars, a draft pick, and PATIENCE, I think Morey and Co. can put us in position to potentially take advantage. Of something. Hopefully. Dear God please.

I agree with your thinking but I really think we favor keeping Patterson and trading Hill. And I am of the opinion that we would be willing to send out Scola and Brooks along with Hill if it would net us Cousins. Beno is not a bad player. He's very decent and would serve us well off the bench backing up Kyle. Dalembert is a non-issue. He is an expiring. We may throw in Yao for Dally just to give Sacramento more money. But the key piece we are looking for out of Sacramento is Cousins. And I think Morey is prepared to make one final offer to them for Cousins throwing out Brooks and Scola as the chips. Brooks, Scola, Yao, and Hill for Cousins, Dally, Landry, and Beno makes some sense for both teams. Sacramento gets Scola wrapped up at a decent value contract. They get a young big in Hill to continue to develop. They get Brooks to run around in the backcourt and play off Evans. That is a trade that both sides should consider.

    1) Brooks will get more then that.
    2) Gasol is a Resticted FA meaning anything you throw at him Memphis WILL match. They didnt throw away Pau for anything and I guarantee he is going to be coveted by more then just us.
    3) I love when people suggest "so and so would do this because he loves the team and hes not greedy" because I know if I get job promotion I dont take them cause I love the people around me. WTF. this is a business as well and if you paid attn to Battier you would have learned that he would like to eventually end up in his home area of Detroit. (this is like the suggestion of trading a player only for them to agree to a B/O....LOL)

Ok give brooks more, and Gasol is smart enough to realize memphis is not a contender and wont be for a while
I mean look at it honestly would you rather live in Memphis (were basketball isnt much appriacted) and play for the grizzlies (look at the team record & supporting cast) or Houston (were the crowd is great), more people speak spanish, the team is better and so are the odds of them getting him a ring

How long have you lived in Memphis to know that its not appreciated? They just gave Rudy a hella lot of money to continue building around.

And again. Restricted. It means the teams have the right to match. Regardless of how Gasol feels, its not his choice but even beyond that, no one but he knows how he feels.

I want to trade Clyde and Bull for Don Chaney.

Why the Rockets do it. Clyde and Bull suck, Chaney does not.

    Houston Rockets Trades:

    Yao Ming
    Jared Jeffries

    LA Clippers Trades:

    Chris Kaman
    Baron Davis
    Rasual Butler
2011 Clips 1st pick (Whic will be top 5)
    2012 Clips 1st pick

Yea I know Baron's contract is disgusting but it's a high risk high reward trade. After this, trade Brooks, Shane, R.Butler, Budinger 2011 NY pick and 2012 Clips pick to rent Carmelo Anthony.

    Baron/Lowry/Ish
    Martin/Lee
    Carmelo/Twill
    Scola/Hill
    Kaman/B.Miller/Hayes

It's all in for going to the finals this season and re-sign Carmelo this summer. If he won't sign with us, we still got Clips 1st rounder this season which will be probably top 5 pick, and Kaman's contrac expires next year.

Suns lost again tonight, at home to the Sixers, and it really wasn't even close. I know they will want to see how things work with Carter before doing anything else but if that doesn't work, something will end up happening there. Yao's contract plus Ariza's T/E could be in play here, Sarver could gain some HUGE savings so the question might be when not if and for who.
