Acquire and flip. Someone else may really want West. How about West or Scola, Brooks, and some of our expirings for Josh Smith and Mike Bibby? Then you've got Okafor and Smith as your two primary bigs. And you've got Patterson in the wings. And you've still got trading room with whoever is left out of Scola/West. And most definitely, Nene is better than Okafor. I think Denver knows it and they're not gonna turn him loose.
Trade Option Number 1: Rockets Receive: Chris Paul, Emeka Okafor Hornets Receive: Yao Ming, Aaron Brooks, Shane Battier, Jared Jeffries Why Hornets do it: To avoid losing Chris Paul for nothing in 2012, they make this trade for extreme cap relief. And get rid of a terrible contract in Okafor. They still get an all-star caliber point guard in Aaron Brooks, a center that still CAN play at an all-star level, and veteran/teacher in Battier. Plus they are all expiring contracts. Paul l Lowry Martin l Lee Williams l Budinger Scola l Hill l Patterson Trade Option Number 2: Rockets Receive: Gerald Wallace, Stephen Jackson, Tyrus Thomas, Diop Bobcats Receive: Yao Ming, Aaron Brooks, Shane Battier, Jordan Hill, Chase Budinger, Jared Jeffries Lowry l Lee l Smith Martin l Jackson Wallace l Williams Scola l Thomas l Hayes Diop l Miller l Hayes
Houston Receives: Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, Elton Brand, Spencer Hawes, Emeka Okafor New Orleans Receives: Aaron Brooks, Kyle Lowry, Kevin Martin, Shane Battier, Spencer Hawes Devner Receives: Yao Ming, Jordan Hill, Jared Jeffries, NYK 2011, 2012 1st Rounders Philly Receives: Luis Scola, Brad Miller, Al Harrington Houston: PG: Chris Paul | Aaron Brooks | Ishmael Smith SG: Courtney Lee | Chase Budinger SF: Carmelo Anthony | Terrence Williams PF: Elton Brand | Patrick Patterson C: Emeka Okafor | Chuck Hayes
That strategy is not ideal, especially if the follow-up trade is not already lined up. West's value as a trade asset would deflate the longer he was on the Rockets' roster, since he would not be able to put up 20 ppg playing with/behind Scola. That strategy would end up hurting the team more than helping it. Better to either trade for a better fit or involve more teams in a larger deal in order to net players who are better fits.
1) We don't own NYK 2011; we only own the right to swap picks which right the looks to be our own. 2) We only own 1 2012 1st rounder - the Knicks. We traded our 2012 pick for TWill. 3) We must have at least 1 guaranteed 1st round pick in 2011 or 2012.
It's heavily protected. I think the Kings have to finish with a top 7 record for us to get the pick.. meaning, we won't be seeing it.
Atlanta Receives: Shane Battier Kyle Lowry Jordan Hill Houston Receives: Marvin Williams Mike Bibby Atlanta's 2011 unprotected 1st round pick Why Houston does it: The Rockets are at a crossroads with Lowry and Brooks. Lowry has been nipping at the heels to get the starting PG spot, even willing to live in Cleveland for it (that shows dedication, but poor IQ). This trade would give Brooks the starting nod and put Bibby in a backup role for his final years. Bibby is the perfect backup PG to have in the Adelman offense -- much like when Bobby Jackson came on board and gave our team a boost. He's shooting 49% from downtown this year while shooting 4.2 of them a game. Simply said, the man can still shoot. I can already see him and Miller working well off each other. And next year, he's an expiring contract. Battier is expiring at the end of this year and I'm not sure the Rockets want to pay him big money to continue in the same role for a younger team. Marvin Williams gives them a young starting SF they can plug into the lineup until TWill or someone else shows they can earn it. He's got great length, though admittedly not the defender Battier is. Still, he's only 24. Dealing Jordan Hill would open up a spot in the rotation for Patrick Patterson to fill and further his development. Jordan Hill has shown to be a decent role player off the bench this year with room for growth, but I don't think any of us really believe he's an all-star type player. I don't think replacing him with Patterson would be that big of a drop off for me not to go ahead with this deal. The first round pick would just be another asset to use in further trade negotiations. Right now, the only 1st rounder we can deal is the Knicks 2012 one. This would give us some extra flexibility to either keep the Knicks pick or pair with Atlanta's to fetch a bigger talent upgrade. Why Atlanta Does It: Much has been made of all the money being spent in Atlanta. This trade would get Bibby off their payroll a year early, as well as get them out of the next three years of Marvin Williams deal. In return, they take their starting PG's salary (last year partially guaranteed) and a young big man still on his rookie contract to give them more size off their bench. Financials aside, they've been searching for a PG for the team. They were hoping Jeff Teague would step up and earn the job -- but he's been a big disappointment. Kyle Lowry would finally give them a starting caliber PG to help them in their playoff run. He would fit in well with the two big men (Horford and JSmith) who like to run the floor and finish at the rim. Battier would be a veteran presence for them in the playoffs. He's a better defender and three-point shooter. The Hawks have a relatively young team, so I could see them preferring to bring in a Battier type player for their stretch run. Perhaps even pay him to remain in that role after the season? They seem like they're all-in with the big contracts to their man guys now.
Houston Gives: Yao Jeffries Boston Gives: Shaq Wafer hell yea this **** is dope. put us over .500 fo sho ya no?
I think trades really deserve their own section of the board rather than one cluttered thread. Anyways... If we're serious about playoffs and are willing to take a risk which could give us a chance to topple the #1 or #2 seed in the West: Houston trades: Yao, Jeffries, Budinger, Patterson Charlotte trades: Diop, Gerald Wallace, Stephen Jackson Bobcats are apparently looking for cap savings, they are looking for a new coach and it seems they are not willing to add veteran salary unless they are contenders (I don't know how it makes sense, but it's held true so far).. I think it would be a great deal for us, though we give up an unproven talent and a proven talent. Then there's Yao, but if he can play he'll certainly come back. But our rotation gets a huge shot in the arm at C/PF/SF/SG from these three guys. I can see us taking out the Lakers with that kind of depth. Heck I'd be willing to throw in a first rounder for this, even Terrence Williams (I think Charlotte can absorb his contract outright since they have cap space).. Hayes/Miller/Diop Scola/Hill/Wallace Battier/Wallace/Lee Martin/Jackson/Lee Brooks/Lowry

We have some nice and fairly realistic trade proposals, but the last 3-4 ones are entirely in Houston's favor.
