I just figure there really isn't a world of difference between paying 3/4's of the MLE (or whatever it was we were prepared to offer) versus offering the entire MLE outright. Sure, it's more money but sometimes you have to bend a little to get what you want. The guy is a starter in this league. For a 25-year-old player with his degree of upside you could do a lot worse. But yeah, I guess Morey was probably firm with what he was prepared to spend and Gortat's price range exceeded that limit. All the same, i'd imagine he's still at least on the radar. It's quite obvious why Morey wanted him in the first place.
Is blood is in the water in San Antonio? It's time for Morey to bite like a megalodon. Unlike the Spurs, the Rockets can afford to rest Manu. It's win-win situation. Budinger develops, Manu can fully recover and doesn't have to play through any injuries. Over $10M reasons why that's not an option in SA. http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/courtside/2009/11/pop-manu-could.html http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/spurs/Spurs_say_struggles_part_of_process.html Rockets aren't adding more injured players. It's expiring contract for expirings. Rockets will have more trade-friendly expirings to work with at the trade deadline. Obviously if Manu cannot stay healthy they don't re-sign him in free agency or trade him at the deadline.
It still amounts to exchanging a more injured player for a less injured player. I can see the advantage of having a more trade friendly expiring but Manu only makes 10M to McGrady's 22.8 M. It doesn't work. Why should we wait around for a player who is past his prime to get healthy? IMO,Manu isn't going to be enough to propel us in the direction of a championship with an injured Yao Miing. Shane and Luis for Manu works, but I would have only considered that if he were fit and somewhat younger.
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=4891140&postcount=139 Manu being past his prime is debatable. The trend has been he's gotten better as he ages. Younger like the T-Wolves or Nets? Both those teams have many talented prospects.
We will have to disagree here. Rebuilding from scratch is more painful, but can get better results in the long run. Having a vet like Manu isn't going to get us near a championship IMO with Yao Ming(there is no guarantee of him getting back to full fitness and even if he does,he could break down anytime),and the rest of the guys aren't going to be enough with him. Your trade scenario is highly unlikely to materialize anyway,IMO. No offense intended.

New Orleans gets Aaron Brooks Chase Budinger Tracy McGrady 2010 first round pick Houston gets Chris Paul Peja Stojakovic
How about: Chris Bosh, Eddy Curry to Houston Luis Scola, Darko Milicic, Danilo Gallinari to Toronto Tracy McGrady to NYC
Rockets Trade Aaron Brooks 1.1M 2 years Tracy McGrady 22.8M 1 year Yao Ming 16.3M 2 Years (last Player Option) New Orleans Trade Emeka Okafor 10.8M 5 Years Peja Stojakovic 13.5M 2 Years Chris Paul 5.8M 3 Years Morris Peterson 13.3M 2 Years New Orleans will save a little over 90 million dollars. And get to keep Cash Cow Yao Ming for one year and Interesting Rookie Aaron Brooks. Plus they can choose to resign TMac. Houston gets Paul and Okafor to help now, and Stojakivic and Peterson that can be traded or used within a system where they can play, making the ones of Battier or Ariza a little more expendable. Of they are not used or traded they will expire in 2 years as well as battier giving the Rox almost 25 millions in expiring contracts to trtade towards 2011.
What you think bout this trade… http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yhqq4p9 rockets get: al jefferson timberwolves get: scola, okafor hornets get: landry, cook Everyone is tripping about us not having a big guy down low… well Al Jefferson is a big guy down low that can score and rebound a block a few couple shots Why the timberwolves would do this… well they get Okafor and right now they are last in the league in blocks per game and near the bottom of the league in defense… so this will help them… right now Al Jefferson is not playing well, but the way I see it he doesn’t want to play for the timberwolves… think about it he’s freaking talented and they aren’t winning so why try…. The team is a total messed and they aren’t getting anywhere anytime soon… so a change in scenario, they get a guy whose always going to play and always wants to win thereby establishing himself as a leader by example in a way thru is work ethic… by doing so will effect the guys around him the want to play harder… so as a result this might effect the timberwolves in a way where things might turn around… if anything the reason why the timberwolves would do this cause they are stupid enough to do it… think about the garnett trade… the mayo for Kevin love trade… the ricky rubio trade that in the end did not get… drafted two point guards last year… face it the timberwolves general manager is stupid Why the hornets would do this… well rumor has it they want to trade away okafor… his contract is way too much and in return they get a guy who is similar to Tyson chandler when is was good for a way cheaper price…. if anything they get two expiring contracts to replace a long term bad deal... In the end even though according to Hollinger we have the bad end of the trade how I see it buy low and sell high… as in right now al jefferson stock is low so buy him cause he can’t get any worse and trade players like scola and landry cause they are doing real well now, but think about Jefferson has more talent than scola and landry combined…. So we get the better deal in the end…. Not only that Jefferson would want to play for us, as I explained how he didn’t want to play for the timberwolves… a different environment does a lot to a player… think about if you play on a losing team why would you want to keep playing unless your scola or landry…. With the way things are going and with battier and hayes leader ship Jefferson would burst into the scenes like no other…
I like this. But I hate this: Rockets Trade Aaron Brooks 1.1M 2 years Tracy McGrady 22.8M 1 year Yao Ming 16.3M 2 Years (last Player Option) New Orleans Trade Emeka Okafor 10.8M 5 Years Peja Stojakovic 13.5M 2 Years Chris Paul 5.8M 3 Years Morris Peterson 13.3M 2 Years
Would Rox and Memphis agree on this trade? Would Memphis agree to McGrady/Cook for Zach, Jaric, and Marc Gasol?
Marc Gasol is gold and having Adriana Lima around would be nice but Zach Randolph's contract is a poison pill and his overall attitude sucks, I'd pass.
