1.) Disagree, I think Manu is the type of player Morey would salivate over. 2.) A reason to trade for McGrady. Holt's not paying $10M tax for nothing.
Doesn't Manu fall into Morey's category of a vet with "a little more tread left on the tires than others may think" ?
I watched a little bit of the Knicks game last night and got to see Eddie Curry for a bit and the fool looked pretty good along with being a fantastic shape for him. I DONT KNOW WHAT MOREY THINKS OF CURRY but I wonder if he would go for something like this... TMAC/Cook For Eddie Curry/Wilson Chandler/Al Harrington Rox do it because it gives them a big man to defend, block shots and rebound. They also get a scoring big who can be explosive and would work perfectly in Adelman's system with Harrington. The key might be Wilson Chandler as he is a young athletic wing who's ceiling is sky high in the right offense. Knicks do it because obivously need the cap space and Wilson Chandler isn't working in the D'Antoni system thus not very happy with him. I would wait to see a bit more of Curry play and see if he is truly turned a corner or if this is just mirage but either way his contract along with Harrington expires at years end so it could be high reward low risk type deal.
Eddy Curry has an approximately $11M player option for next year that he will most definitely exercise. That is why the Knicks are so desperate to dump him on anyone who will give them expiring contracts in return. No thanks. Unless maybe if they throw in their UNPROTECTED 2012 and 2014 first round picks. Even then, only maybe.
Oops. I read an article recently where they said he was in his last year but the player option would scare me off. I agree then NO WAY your right maybe with a 1st round pick but even then I would say NO. Thanks for the clarification Bima.
How do buyouts work? Do you still pay for each year left or once its done he is off the roster? Curry that is. And if, if they bought with the two unprotected 1st rounds would Curry be dead weight or would Rick be able to put him to use? Now lets say Knicks do pick 2 big names with all that cap space, what good would 1st rounders be to us
Whatever the team pays the player counts against the salary cap. Believe me, if Eddy Curry's contract could be completely wiped off the books simply with a buyout, the Knicks would just do that themselves in a heartbeat. Also, my personal opinion/prediction is that the Knicks strike out in free agency BIG TIME. I bet those picks would be mid- to late lottery picks.
Bima, I'm interested to hear your take on whether or not we should try to trade for Gortat once his trade restriction clears. I know he's BYC but it's still possible. What do you think?
I have been thinking this very thing, I would like to have Gortat here. Not sure Orlando gets rid of him or what they would want in return if they are open to a trade. Dec. 15th right? Just seems like they signed him in part to not lose him without getting something in return
14.1 PPG,at a FG% of .378 and a 3 Point percentage of .341 with not much on defense plus a recent left groin injury as well as hamstring problems, and ankle problems last year does not look promising to me.
No, thanks. Daryl Morey had every opportunity to offer Gortat the full MLE over the summer. He knew about Yao's injury at the time and was fully aware of the Rockets' need for size. Of course, the Magic would have matched anyway, but the point is that Morey made an INFORMED decision not to offer him that much money. It's not like he's all of a sudden going to say, "Wait a minute! We have no size!" Morey has even gone on record as saying that "full MLE" signings rarely work out well. The "MLE-sized" Disabled Player Exception that Morey used to sign Trevor Ariza was a "use-it-or-lose-it, one-shot deal" type of situation, different from the actual MLE, which could be split among several players. I'm just going to be patient with the development of David Andersen. I reserve all judgment on him until about 5-6 games after the All-Star Break. Frankly, I'd rather have Andersen for 3 years, $7.5M than trade for Gortat and his 5 years, $34M contract. By the way, one thing to note about David Andersen's contract is that only about $5M of it is guaranteed. The third and final year (at about ~$2.73M) is only guaranteed for $135k. So, if Andersen doesn't work out, the Rockets can always waive him and take only a minimal hit. Also, his contract could prove to be a valuable trade asset in the summer of 2011 and could help Morey take advantage of teams trying to slash payroll.
He's still recovering from last season. Last season could be an anomaly? That is undetermined. He played through an injury, put his career on the line, when he played at the Beijing Olympics. As I posted the Rockets will have the luxury of this season to evaluate him as it's a development year for them.
