I don't know that we have the PT for Manu unless we trade a wing. We're two deep 1-3: Brooks/Lowry Martin/Budinger Ariza/Battier So unless Battier or Budinger is trade bait, I don't see much place for Ginobili on the team. Remember, we'd have to pay double for him since we're in the LT after bringing back Lowry and Scola. I could see this as a second move after using Battier or Budinger in a trade, but otherwise, I doubt it's going to happen. Honestly, our only need right now is a starter-quality backup C. This might just be our first-round draft pick depending on who we get and how confident the front office is in him. Otherwise, give me Camby, Miller, or Gortat and I'm happy with the team as currently assembled.
This would be Manu's last (significant) contract, he would pursue the largest one. 2-3 years MLE wouldn't be enough. I think the spurs would offer him a 2-3 years extension that would be more than MLE. The only way for the rockets to beat the spurs' one is to offer a longer contract.
Sorry that I may have stolen your Idea, but everything you said was fairly correct. I think the Spurs, if they are one and done in the playoffs, might consider rebuilding their team. This would be the 2nd year that they might be bounced outta the 1st round because as it stands they will either face the Lakers, Nuggets, and Mavs. I think they wouldn't last a 7 game series against any of those teams, maybe the Mavs, but I doubt it. The odd man out for the Spurs might be Ginobili, because they are already stuck with Jefferson and his albatross contract and with the new CBA negotiations looming, I highly doubt they will have enough money to re-sign him.
if he agrees to sign for cheap then hell yes. manu will bring some toughness back to this team and championship experience. also, maybe being reunited with scola will rejuvenate him a little.
If he isn't wanted by the Spurs why would we want him? Especially since we seem to be building a younger team. y
IDK this sounds like a pretty good idea. We do get older adding Manu and Camby but we do have enough guys to fill in if they should get hurt. Manu seems like a guy who would take MLE to play on a good team and with one of his best friends supposedly in Scola.
Finally someone is asking the right questions.... Manu is Older and injury prone... Just doesn't make sense with the direction that Morey is moving towards..
If we gonna sign Manu without giving anyone, trading Shane and Budinger won't be enough to open enough minutes for all Brooks, Lowry, Martin, Ariza and Manu. Manu can play point guard, shooting guard and shooting forward positions effectively but he must get around 30 minutes. Let's see. At guard position; Brooks 30 minutes at least. Lowry 25 minutes at least. At shooting guard; Martin 35 mins at least. At shooting forward; Ariza 30 mins at least. Totals 120 mins out of 144 minutes in three positions. I dont think Morey can convince Manu to come here for MLE and play just 24 mins. Yea you can say that if we get Manu we can always cut a little playing time from these guys but it can pan out to a chemistry issue as well. Sometimes being to deep is not a good thing, ask Celtics. I really like Manu's game and personality. He's the closer that we need here and he has the experince plus killer instinct. I will worship Morey if he brings Manu here but bringing Manu maybe means leaving Lowry out of contract.
He's be a great fir for the team. He would be amazing along side Brooks, as it relieves AB of playmaking duties (which he does not excel at). The problem is, how do we give both Manu and Martin the minutes they deserve? I don't see it working. We are not getting the most out of Either of those 2 players if one only plays 25mins per game.
The Spurs are getting old and I think they realize that they need to get younger and rebuild. This is why Manu may leave.
PG: Lowry/Brooks (Lowry starting because now we have 4 offensive threats with him and Ginobili tends to handle the ball when he's on the court) SG: Martin/Budinger SF: Ariza/Ginobili PF: Scola/Hill C: Yao/backup Championship contender. Bosh who? Crunch time: Yao Martin Ginobili Browry Scola or Ariza depending on matchups
i'm ok with signing Manu...he and Scola would lead our team. If he is signed, I want Battier shipped out.
B/c it's not my money, I support this motion. Manu, despite his age, is the closest thing to a closer that we can reasonably acquire. He has that Kobe Bryant-John Stockton-Steve Nash factor (opposing teams fear him holding the ball in the closing seconds). I love Yao Ming, but he's a Big, so it's harder to get the ball into his hands in the closing seconds. Martin is terrific, but he's not a closer. AB is good, but he's not a killer. Manu is a killer. If we trade JJ + a draft pick to one of the below-the-cap teams, we could get a trade exception and get below the luxury tax line, right? Then signing Manu wouldn't cost an extra dollar-for-every-dollar, right? I support the 1st) Manu, 2nd) Camby, & 3rd) Lowry & Scola offseason.
thats not the problem.. the problem is that he isnt going to be a major componant and isnt going to be much better than a developed budinger. Plus hes starting to get to that age where players start to decline rather than devlop so he wouldnt fit in with the "young and developing" team that morey had put together. Hes a good player, and he would provide the same hustle and heart that scola does, but we need a young player thats good and can only get better. Im not saying it would be a bad thing if we get manu on the team... im saying that i dont think DM's going to want to do that.. manu just isnt part of his master plan.
