Rockets gets: Andre Iguodala/Elton Brand/Marrese Speights 76ers gets : Tracy McGrady/Brian Cook/2nd round pick Don't worry about getting Elton Brand. He'll be great under Adelman's coaching and next year he'll be perfect next to Yao. We can package Maareese or Ariza with Scola next year for a good shooting guard. This year Brooks/Lowry Ariza/Chase/Taylor Iguodala/Battier Scola/Landry Brand/Hayes/Andersen/Speights This is pretty crowded but can run for the Western Conference Finals for this year. Also we can package Ariza or Scola with Speights for a shooting guard(maybe kevin martin) Next Year Brooks/Lowry new shooter/Ariza/Chase Iguodala/Battier Brand/Landry Yao/Hayes/Andersen And thats a true contender.
Oh, okay. Here, I was worried about the absolutely horrendous luxury tax implications that taking on Elton Brand's monstrosity of a contract would have. You know, what with having to let Scola and Lowry walk away this summer and possibly even one of Brooks or Landry walk away the following summer, all because Les Alexander could not maintain an acceptable level of profitability due to Brand clogging up team salary and all. But after reading your eloquent, elegant explanation in favor of Brand, I am converted!!! Make it happen, Morey!
Successful Trade Scenario Congratulations on a successful trade. Due to Houston, Utah, and Philadelphia being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Houston, Utah, and Philadelphia had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Frankly, if Les is looking to maximize luxury tax, I think Arenas is available. I'm sure Rick would be able to get something out of him in the short period of time between when he gets here and when we have to renounce everyone else.
Just read that M Redd is starting to complain in Milwaukee. Says he wants to play for a contender. He hasn't been playing so well lately. The team seems to play better without him in the lineup, may be something to consider. On the NBA trade machine I was successful in trading M Redd and F Elston for T-Mac. Maybe bucks would like to free up some cap space next summer and build around Jennings and Bogut going forward. That foreign PF they have is playing well also. Oh well just wanted to share. I think M Redd would be perfect for this team.
It just dawned on me that with the news that Tmac is technically a starting guard in the All Star game for the West right now(I realize it won't finish that way), maybe it's increasing Tmac's value with teams who have problems with ticket sales. Regardless of where you stand on Tmac as a player, at very least a very large group of people are voting for Tmac and those same people come to games when they can, buy Tmac merch, and watch games on TV. Maybe Tmac makes some sense for some teams purely in a merch/ticket/TV revenue sense. I don't think it's that far fetched actually....
It may not be, but people are overestimating. If Iverson could only sellout in Philly for a week (IVERSON now), then what else can McGrady do in Philly?
This is minor, but mention of McGrady in a possible trade for Jameson on ESPN site - link http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/features/rumors
I was just going to ask yall if we had any chance in trading for Jameson. Nice player who could really stand out in the line up. Imagine Jameson, Ariza, Brooks, Battier, and Yao starting next season with the bench we have
The article cited is speculative anyway, although it's probably occurred to many posters here: maybe Tmac and Dorsey and Taylor for Washington's expirings and Jamison, but send Jamison to Cleveland. Jamison to Cleveland makes more sense. Then maybe we could wrangle Ilgauskas and Cleveland's 1st rounder out of the deal?
Hows this? Houston receive Bosh and Iggy Jazz receive Battier, Budinger and Banks Philly receive Tmac Toronto receive Boozer and Dalembert
I really like Jamison as a player, but I don't think he fits with what the Rockets are doing from a salary standpoint, especially when you factor in that the team already has two good PFs on very reasonable contracts. That said, maybe the following trade would work for all parties involved: Houston gets: Javale McGee, Mike Miller, Zydrunas Ilgauskas Cleveland gets: Antawn Jamison Washington gets: Tracy McGrady, Houston's 2010 (lottery protected) first round pick, and cash The Rockets would agree to immediately waive/buy out Ilgauskas ($11.2M expiring contract) so that he can re-sign with the Cavs in 30 days (Cleveland has asked other teams to do this in any swap involving Big Z, but other teams have balked at it). Meanwhile, the Rockets get Mike Miller ($9.7M expiring contract) and Javale McGee (cheap young talent) to add to the rotation. The Cavs get Jamison and eventually get Big Z back. The Wizards get McGrady (for whatever that's worth to them), get out from under Jamison's contract (which is worse than Butler's), and also get a mid-first rounder and some cash out of the deal.
