I think its a good trade, but my beef with this is I feel that our Battier/Artest combo is our only edge against the Lakers. With this trade we give up our only differential advantage against them, and it becomes a straight up match up with Yao Ming/Scola/Tmac/Artest/Alston against Bynum/Gasol/Fisher/Kobe/Ariza with Landry/Brooks against Odom/Farmar. I'd rather not touch Artest and Battier until season's end when we have seen what their lockdown combination can do. I'd rather find some way to get Deke back.
Have a feeling that teams will want Bat no matter what....... they know we are in a bind with SF and open to trade Head. So it probably won't happen. Hope I'm wrong. What about Alston and Battier for Andre Miller and Theo Ratliff? I don't think I would want to lose Bat for it but just a thought. Ratliff at 4 sometimes with Yao? probably not.
Of course my trade would be a mood point if we were to some how miraculously get Deke back. However, the trade I suggested would be addition by subtraction if you really think about it. I'd much rather have a straight up Kobe vs Tmac matchup and an Odom vs. Artest match up with Scola and Landry helping out on Odom as opposed to Battier helping out on Bryant. This will give the opportunity to let Kobe try and beat the Rockets all by himself which is exactly what we DO WANT. The Lakers are at their best when their whole team is contributing and playing well. Not when Kobe is dominating and trying to single handedly win games. The bottom line is this. Yao and our Center position as a whole needs more help than our swingman position. I'm confident that Mac and Artest can get the job done (keep them in check to a certain degree while getting their own) against Kobe/Odom. I know for a fact that Yao will NOT I repeat WILL NOT be able to get it done by himself against Bynum/Gasol two quick, lenghty, mobile 7 footers. I can see it already, Yao picks up 2 stupid fouls in the first few minutes of game 1 against the Lakers. This would not only change the complexion of the game but the whole series.
OR Head Hayes Dorsey for Josh Boone and Najera eat the Najera check later?seems only fitting we did draft him sort of.
I'm not a big Battier fan myself but I wouldn't give him up for Pryzbilla. Joel is not a bad backup center and we certainly need one but Shane is worth more than him. Prybilla is a hard worker who can rebound and is tall but he isn't quick or fast enough to match against Okur or Boozer for example IMO.
Well what if it was made a Battier and Head for Przybilla and either on of these guys, Sergio Rodriguez or Rudy Fernandez (we save money doing this too). Just a thought, since we have a lot of peeps concerned with Heads more off then on games and no matter TO rate. I do remember one of those players (Sergio Rodriguez or Rudy Fernandez) aren't too happy with their position?
But just a realization, you trade Battier and Artest would almost have to be a keeper unless we just dont care about defense next year.
Not many can match up with Okur because he shoots those damn 3's and he plays a well balanced, unorthodox game without a major weakness. As for Boozer I wouldn't use Joel to match up against him. I was simply making a point that Joel's biggest benefit against the Jazz would be limiting their second chance opportunities which absolutely killed us. If we were to play the Lakers Joel could definitely check both Bynum/Gasol. As you can see Joel brings many needs we desperately lack. Everyone has this perception that Joel is just a back-up center but the fact of the matter is that he could start for more than half the teams in this league. He's by far the best back-up center bar-none to say the least. Having the best back-up center to Yao Ming would be the ultimate luxury as evidenced by my scenarios above. It's not everyday you get competent 7 footers that can actually contribute.
Rudy Fernandez is UNTOUCHABLE. We don't want or have a need for Sergio Rodriguez. Please don't make things complicated. Battier for Pryzbilla straight up or bust.
I rather have Deke because we would be more formidable defensively against the likes of Kobe, Roy, Ginobili, etc ... in the playoffs by keeping Battier. However, the Pryzbilla trade suggestion is not a bad second option but I don't think Portland would give him up. Like you said, he is considered the best back-up center in the league and what will keep them from considering it ultimately is Oden. Who is still uncomfortable at times and getting into foul trouble.
bust then like someone else mentioned already Battier brings more to the table thats why i tried to put a lower piece on the table for one of their better pieces and like ai also mention it was one of those two players and I knew one was doing good so I meant the other I just couldnt remember which one it was. and save money at the save time
Battier can help out on Odom as well as he can help out on Kobe. You want Tmac to go one on one with Kobe? Kobe will probably go on an 82 pt tear, or Tmac will lock him down and be exhausted by the 4rth. With Battier in the roster we can take Tmac out put Artest and Battier on the floor. With those two Kobe will have to log in extended minutes just so the Lakers will get production from their wings, and when 4rth comes around it'll be rested Tmac vs winded Kobe. Landry and Scola can't help out on Odom because they have Gasol to worry about. By 4rth we can trot out Tmac/Yao/Scolandry/Artest/Battier against Bynum/Gasol/kobe/Odom/Fisher. That's about as favorable matchup for us as I can think off.
I really like the idea of Battier for Outlaw and Channing Frye proposed by leebigez. Maybe we can also trade Rafer to the AND1 Mixtape Tour for future considerations.
I haven't looked at this thread for ages. Mainly because I assumed it would be full of the standard rubbish trade talk...so I click on it and scroll up for a sec - and see that some are advocating Battier 4 Pryzbilla. Vindicated, I now re-exit this thread.
Battier, Luther Head, Steve Francis contract for Pryzbilla and Travis Outlaw. Battier would give them a veteran influence to balance out their roster, plus Outlaw would replace Battier and Pryzbilla would give us size and length.
Trading Battier would be a horrible mistake for the Rockets. I don't know why some fans seem to like that idea.
