The idea is, Portalnd has to extend all those young players, pretty much at the same time, they have to pick and choose because they are stacked. Oden, aldridge, and Roy are up for 10+ million, easily ove 35 million just between those 3. Bayles, Fernandez have potential to get extensions for 8 +, they would useu p their entire cap on 5 pieces...this is why they have to make decisions and build on their solid 3 and surround with vets and flexibility, financially it woudl be hard to keep their team intact as it is because too much potential and too much dependence on the rookie scale which comes to an end for them in 2 years.... that is why they consider it, to the post above this one, this trade owrks under nba cba rules financially as well

Mikki Moore (2 years remaining) has been pushed out of the starting line-up in Sacramento. He's an active 7 foot veteran who has been a below average starter, but would probably be suitable as a backup. He won't block many shots or score many points, but he can grab a handful of rebounds and shoots good percentages from both the field and the line.

The Kings are under the cap, so we really wouldn't have to give them much at all, which they'd actually prefer so they can save the difference in salary. However, we are in luxury tax territory and want to add as little salary as possible, so we would need to send both Steve Francis (expiring) and Luther Head (expiring) for it to make sense for us.

In the end, it's a necessary move for us and a money saving move for Sacramento. Then again, if they're interested in being part of the '10 off-season, they might be better off with Mikki's 2-year contract anyway. Worth a shot from the Rockets perspective though, I would think.

From what I understand, they actually have the ability to extend all their up and coming players.

We really need Mutombo and a tall PF so I say: try to include Head in a deal with Hayes / Landry for a big athletic 6'10 / 6'11 PF and a pick so hopefully that will clear some room for Mutombo to come back right away. Problem is, this will probably never happen and there's not a team I can think of who wants Luther Head right now. We should've dealt him away last year, when he was still good, now he's not even getting playing time so not a good sign if you want to ship a guy out of here.

I think we might have an interest in Brad Miller too.

They better win their title soon, because there's no way they can afford to keep all those players once they become eligible for contract extensions.

On a second thought. I would mind the Rockets trying to make a play for Mark Blount some how.

I thought these were supposed to be minor trades not overhauling our whole roster.

I wouldn't mind what someone posted earlier, a trade for Al Harrington. Think about it:

He is a big man that can bring out those power forwards that try to double team Yao in the post. Everytime Yao gets doubled there's another shooter that can get the ball kicked out to him.

I also would agree with another suggestion of someone's, trading for Antwan Jamison.

Really we're not getting any of these guys for free by giving up Head and Rafer or pretty much our scrubs/trash for a star or proven starter, so we'll probably take a loss somewhere.

Ok I can't even believe im typing this but....

    Shane battier + Luther head

for Jason Terry and a future 2nd round pick

we need lights out shooters and we get one in Terry. Bad side is we lose the glue of the glue..

I know it seems like we need battier more than ever right now, but Terry fills in those 3s that we miss.

I like him as a player but hate him as a mav. I don't think Dallas would buy into that deal though. Plus I dont think the Rox will trade Shane to a division rival. He'll kill TMac on D everytime we play them. If he's ever healthy that is.

That's one of thbetter ideas in this thread. He's exactly the kind of guy the rox should go after. He can also play with yao for certain matchups like against kg,bosh and those types. I think Chris Mihm, Elson, Malick Allen are also the kinda players the rox should be after. I would like to see a guy who can play 18-20 mins to drop Yao to 28-30mins, then later in the season start to ramp him up going into the playoffs.
I've been saying this for like 2 yrs now, but people think I'm off or we're ok. Well, I beg to differ and when a team with title aspirations start a 6'5 center, that says it all.

Mikki Moore is actually a plausible idea... Problem is his contract. He has a full MLE tag on him. Hell, he could even be considered a garbage contract now.

No to Al Harrington. He's like a poor man's Artest...only with more of a perimeter game, no D, no balls and no crazy pills. He's also a knucklehead and a pretty whiny dude. More importantly, he got traded and/or fell out of every rotation he's been in the past few years: first in Indiana, then in Atlanta, then in Indiana again and now even Nelly (who has a man-crush on perimeter oriented big men like him) and the No D Warriors want to ship him out. Sounds like a cancer and a chronic loser to me :p

Hmm now that I think about it he's actually more like a buried-in-debt-hobo version of Antawn Jamison lol.
