yao has to be mean. not like sheed, but whena rookie does **** like that to you, after yao dunked on him he shulda said somethin. get under that fools skin. if we had tmac we woulda saw him and randolph iso and watch his ankles get broken. or maybe ron coulda took him out on the wing and muscled his way for an and1 w/ randolph tryna guard him hurtin himself in the process.
Nope ... Yao did exactly what he should've done. He piled up 19 points in the 4th quarter in response and just absolutely dominated him and whatever was left of their front line that hadn't fouled out already. The payback dunk was merely the cherry on top.
I wish the league would stop trying to be a parent to NBA players. Its irrelevant to the game if you think someone was taunting another player or dresses tacky or whatever. Even ESPN was griping about Brandon Roy and Paul Pierce talkin' smack to each other during a game. I'm not taking up for what Randolph did but...let it go.
It's about image, and it's absolutely necessary. Would you want to bring your 9 year old son or daughter to a basketball game where guys wear backwards hats and have baggy ass shirts and pants and wear chains and earrings and have rags sticking out of their pockets (ok went too far with that one lol)? Or a bunch of respectable looking guys in suits? The NBA is trying to promote itself as a family affair, which is fine. And if you let people taunt each other like that, there are definitely more fights gonna break out. That's not good for the league's image either. This is a basketball association, not UFC.
Well said. And that's one of the reasons that Yao is welcomed in this league (though some refs still dislike him).
lol it was in responce to calling that other poster a rookie when he himself is one. And yes, Randolph did something stupid. Just like that walker dude did in Boston. It was a great dunk. He acted wrong, though. But everyone is young once, and everyone makes mistakes, gets a little excited, etc. Randolph just has to learn from his mistake never to disrespect a player who is that much better than you ever again or has that many more years in the league than you do. Yao already told Randolph once though. More than once, actually.
yao needs to repeat his performance in the gs game 10 times in a row (ok, maybe not 10 in a row, more like 10 out of 12 games) to convince me he's back to the mvp-like form. we all know he is capable of that.
I guess it was still "over" Yao. Plus Yao shoved him in the chest and didn't called for it. Plus he dunked it over Yao once already. The rook just got over excited. It was a nice dunk. He should have just walked back down the court. Or at least screamed in a direction away from Yao. Staring him down was absolutely wrong.
Randolph - couple good dunks on bad rotations or lucky bounces Yao - 19pts in the the 4th and a 34/14 for the game with 5ast. 17/19 from the line and 9/9 in the last qtr. I think Yao made his point.
It wasn't that great a dunk - by Randolph... And it wasn't even a major taunting, just enough to get a tech. The important thing is that it fired up Yao enough to grow into his body and take over the game.
i agree that being pumped up is fine....he can do it on the way back to defense..not by looking at yao screaming...
I don't think what Randolph did was wrong. He dunked and got excited he's not the first player to do it and he won't be the last. Hell he dunked on Yao twice, Yao is 7'6 so Randolph was just excited about it I'm sure he still respects Yao. Hell Yao has dunked on someone and screamed and looked at them after doing it. This is overblown. I don't think Randolph taunting Yao is why Yao scored 19 pts. in the 4th qt. either.
This sorta reminds me of Dream's "he's got my trophy" comment when David Robinson got the MVP trophy and then polsterizing him in the playoffs. Also, my brother & I were playing a pickup bb game in college one time ,when he went up for a rebound with a guy from the other team and got an accidental elbow to the head. The other guy sincerely appologized, but I saw a fire in my younger brother's eyes that I only saw when I pissed him off. After that, whenever I got the ball; I passed to my brother and watched him manhandle that guy. It was hilarious!! It's fun to see quiet layed back people get angered.
I think the difference is Randolph directly stared down Yao for about 2 seconds. If you dunk, its okay to let out a yell or whatever, but when you look directly at someone while doing it, then you deserve a tech. Yao has stared down people before, and he has gotten techs because of it, but i dont think he does it because he thinks hes a bad ass, i think he does it if the other guy is talking trash the whole game. Bottom line is that Randolph, a 19 year old rookie, taunting Yao an established veteran is a huge mistake. He got what he deserved. Hopfully he learns his lesson.
