francis also represents a person who had to play at two junior colleges, no high school ball, lost both of his parents in his childhood. but idiots who don't know anything about him call him a prima donna because they have no idea what he had to overcome to get to the level he's at. he's far from the modern day athlete who has everything handed to them from the seventh grade when someone recognizes their talent. its all about perception which your post proves as usual.

carr has had arguments with coaches on sidelines and is not the unquestioned leader of his team like francis was so I would chill on the character comparison also.

Are you calling me an idiot? Please calm down.

I don't think his family upbringing or his Juco ball led to him selfishly skipping out on the team plane to Phoenix. I doubt they factored into his technical fouls or his refusing to play in Vancouver. Everyone around the league thought he was a prima donna, it wasn't just a select few who "didn't understand him." That's silly.

The fact that Carr is married helps his character as well, since he's not out "in da club" all the time or trying to chase Beyonce at a Super Bowl party.

Did anyone here Jimmy Johnson at half time say he thought the Texans should bench Carr and DD so they won't lose the #1 pick? hmmmmmmm.

You guys are derailing this thread. We need to get back to wallowing in how deliciously horrible our football team is. Francis is in the past, man.

Ok, now you've pretty much gone overboard.

Being married and having a child has helped keep David Carr grounded. It adds to his maturity and gives him perspective. This is not hard to understand, but if you'd prefer to blow your top and rant, please continue.

If JJ took the head coaching job, I would be ecstatic. And this is coming from someone who hated him when he was with the Cowboys. He knows how to win, that's for sure.

no problem, I'm grounded, you're not, because I'm married. All those married people like Daryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, Bill Rominowski, it does a great job of grounding them. L.T. was married I believe. I believe Roy Tarpley was married because he took an iron to his wife's stomach. Marraige, I understand your point completely.

pgabs, read this article. It echoes what I've been saying.

    http://www.nfl.com/ce/feature/0,3783,5079620,00.html

Besides his talented right arm, Carr has something else that makes him extremely attractive to the Texans and most of the NFL's 31 other teams: Maturity.

"I hear a lot about that," he said. "I think I might be more grounded than someone else, some other players. Maybe I'm a little bit more mature than other guys maybe because I've changed more diapers than other guys have.

"I've got to take care of my wife and my son. If that makes me more mature on the field, then so be it. But I've got a lot of responsibilities out there that I've got to take care of more than just football. And I've got them all handled."

Carr has been married for three years. He and his wife, Melody, have a 20-month-old son named Austin.

I accept your apology in advance.

    did you watch the game??

i thought Carr was done, too. i thought he was shell-shocked and wasn't capable of being an NFL starter any more...or at least I thought that was the way he was going.

after watching today, i know i was wrong. the guy can still play. he made some sensational passes today. he checked off receivers. and he used his legs to buy time when he needed to.

the defense cost us this game. over 300 yards passing in only 3 quarters to a 3rd string QB. inexcusable. you got a 10 point lead with 30 seconds and you can't protect it? unbelievable.

More importantly, he knows how to build a TEAM, and knows you have to build from the foundation up. He's probably laughing at Casserly for drafting defenders that only fit Caper's 3-4 system, not addressing the o-line in all 4 years of existence, trading all your extra expansion picks (and the Drew Henson pick) for dime-a-dozen guys like Babin, Buchannon, and Greenwood, giving big contracts to aging players (G. Walker) while letting the ones go that actually helped make a difference (Glenn, Sharper).

Pretty much everything has gone wrong for Casserly... it wouldn't take much to improve upon his work.

I know the Texans liked Carr because of his marraige, and I thought it was stupid then and its stupid now. It proves nothing. Its a stereotype and given your posting history I'm not surprised you're are using it as proof of his maturity or character. There is a reason that job applications cannot ask you if you are married, because of the same stereotype you are using in this debate. I showed you proof that people who are married are no more immune from off the field problems as people who aren't. Its just a stereotype, that article proves nothing. Other than the texans believe in stereotypes.

You want proof of his maturity? How about the number of time he gets sacked every game for the past 4 years. I have never heard of a QB who takes as many hits as him. What does he do everytime? HE gets right back up and keeps playing. Thats maturity right there. Most QBs would have given up.

This is guy is really good. Today the o-line gave him the oppurtunity, and he delivered. Everyone seems to forget last season, he was one of the better quarterbacks in the nfl, with a good qb rating and everything. HE has clear talent, and i am confident he will take us to the playoffs. You guys who say he sucks and we need a new QB dont watch the Texans. You look at the numbers and the loss column.

I never said he was immature, I never said I wanted to get rid of him. yes I do look at the loss column, and actually I just got off track in the argument but my only contention about the treatment Carr gets and Francis got is that Francis had more success individually and team wise than carr but carr has gotten a free ride in this town until this season.

and honestly the only time carr has deserved criticism is this season.

    Who is "ya'll"?

I certainly never remember seeing MadMax pining for a SF trade.

In fact, MM never even posts in the GARM.

    :)
