True, but he'd probably get to re-build the Texans from the ground up if he wanted to.

Honestly, after this season, if JJ came in and said, "you need to fire this guy and that guy. We need to trade that guy. We need to sign these free agents and draft these guys...." I bet McNair would have no problems at all complying with whatever JJ said.

I mean, what's the argument to the contrary? "No, JJ. Those guys are proven winners and we don't want to make our team worse." We can't get any worse.

No, I would think that JJ would have LOTS of room to make changes in the Texans.

St Louis has the 30th ranked defense in the NFL and have only made 26 sacks the whole season. Their defense is 2 spots above us and has made 5 more sacks than our defense has. If you think our offensive line is fixed because we looked good yesterday................you'd better think again. We have 3 holes to fill up there. Keep Pitts, move him to guard, keep McKinney at the other guard, and draft 2 tackles and a center.

We can do this and still get Reggie Bush if we have the #1 pick. Do you think 3 rookie offensive linemen are going to fill these 3 holes you speak of?

And also I don't think RM95 is saying his mind changed just because of this one game. The OL has looked "decent" over the past few games.

    Reggie,

I'm going to jump on your bandwagon. At first I wanted Brick, but really don't see him making the immediate impact that Bush would. The Texans OL has not looked as bad in the last 5 games as they did in the first 6.

man, i was thinking that same thing. the OL SEEMS to be getting better. that doesn't mean that i don't want it addressed...it just means we may not have to use a first round pick to address the problem. we may be able to spend that pick on a guy like bush...or even some defensive help...instead of drafting a tackle.

I have been a 'trade down' proponent. Use the hype to turn one shot at greatness into 2 or three shots at good players. But I'm leaning toward Bush.

#1 Jimmy likes him, and who? who else can the Texans bring in that will lend instant credibility to the Texans rebuilding effort (Ron Wolfe maybe). If Jimmy wants him, I want him.

#2 even with 3 top rookie OL's you aren't going to turn it around in one year. OL takes some experience and is never a slam dunk Goss Gallery Barron etc etc. It is said that a good rookie RB is good right off the bat. (makes you wonder about Ron Dayne, Rashaam Salaam, Ricky Bell, Ki-Jana Carter, Curtis Enis)

    3. It would make next year more fun to watch, winning would be fun too but it would be fun to wonder "what will Reggie do?" (sorta like Tmac)

Sorry to be off-topic, but are you quoting David Crowder of the David Crowder band? I love that guy.

Just to be clear, he DID NOT actually say this. Johnson merely advocated that McNair take Carr and Davis out of the game at halftime to ensure that the Texans would get Bush. He did not so much as hint that he wanted to coach the Texans.

He sure seemed to be high on Bush, though...!

I like Reggie, but if we don't have a decent O-line, he won't do crap...Yes, he is a playmaker, but even King Kong couldn't run behind that line...

The OL has looked "decent" over the past few games because they have been playing junky defenses and we've been throwing the 5 yard out passes where the OL only has to protect for say............ 1/2 a second. This OL cannot protect against the average NFL defensive line, much less a playoff defensive line. We can cover up the mess up there with 1/2 second drop and throws and then with the downfield game against the worst defenses in the league but not against any quality opponent.

We don't have any choice to get quality tackles but out of the draft. Quality tackles ARE NOT available in free agency. Teams realize the importance and the value of those guys and they lock them up with long term deals or they designate them with the franchise tag and make it impossible to get them. You gotta get offensive tackles through the draft and to have any reasonable opportunity for success, you gotta draft them early. You have a much better chance of finding a gem running back in the 4th, 5th round, or later than you do a quality tackle. Now an offensive center, you can find a quality starting center in the middle rounds of the draft. They aren't a great priority. But we do need 3 offensive lineman. At least 2 of them need to come out of the first 2 rounds of the draft, preferrably the first round of the draft. We should hold up the whole league and make them pay a king's ranson for Bush but we should trade him. One player doesn't fix this team.

I think the OL is better (recently) than you give them credit.

I think we can still draft Bush and pick up 2 quality linemen. The rookie center (Hodgdon) played well at center (before he got injured). That placed McCrappy at LG and Pitts at LT. Pitts is not a bad left tackle, which allows us to draft Bush and pick up a RT and possibly a LG (if McCrappy is released).

I think the point about Bush is not the fact that he is the missing piece. He is a special talent that any NFL team would jump on. We could seal the RB for years to come with Bush.

    This one.

I'm not in Houston, but I come as often as I can. I go to a great church, but I'm shy (perhaps stupidly so) about posting personal stuff on the web.

    (sorry for the minor hijack)

I was in town for Thanksgiving and was in attendance at Reliant. Talk about the most pitiful showing of two NFL teams I have ever seen. I was actually chalking it up as a loss for the Rams at halftime. I didn't even know who was quarterbacking them. I know the Texans defense stinks, but the Texans should have been able to score another 24 points on the lousy Rams defense.

Wilkins onside kick was perfection. None of this squib along the ground junk. You kick it into the ground and make it jump up high in the air. A thing of beauty to watch.

I didn't rub in the win with my Texans fans. I may want another ticket to a game in the future, besides its not like the Rams are going anywhere this year. Enjoy the first pick in the draft. Spend it wisely.
