    if you were on a planet that had extended periods of time with no night (say 2 weeks) would that mean you'd just have to die?

    So, it is beneficial to be in a country that is in winter when it comes around so the fast is a lot shorter.

    Why are you allowed food in the dark but not in the light, what is the reasoning behind that?

    Cause you're usually sleeping at night.

    What does that have to do with eating or fasting? I mean technically, you could sleep all day and be up all night and not be bothered at all, right?

    Just trying to understand the reasoning for this thing.

    Technically, yes you could. Then again, it's all about your intentions.

    You could but then I wouldn't consider it fasting. In that case, I would have been fasting for most of my life.

    If I worked graveyard shift for a living, I would fast at night (sun-rise to sun-down) since I'm sleeping during the day. But that's just me.

    I think you mean "You're"

    ;)

    What is asked of you though?

    I am just more curious as to the "Why" or "Intent" of the fast than anything.....

    And if it is truly a "fast" why are you allowed to eat and drink in the dark?

    It just seems bizzare, to be honest.....which is why I am asking.

    What is the point?

    And, what was the point when it was written down as something to be asked of Muslims?

    Why are folks allowed to eat and drink after dark, but not during daylight?

    i'm guessing the answer will include:

    1. reliance on God;

    2. physical effects..mental clarity;

    3. as sacrifice to God.

    That would make it hard to meet the other obligation of prayer 5 times a day based on solar position.
