Wow, you must have a really good memory . I don't remember that. But he certainly made the D&D more interesting.

CBS says 200,000 but they usually under-estimate I would wait for the park services estimation.

You're surprised that there were liberals at the Rally? I'll bet there were plenty of conservatives, too, and plenty of people interviewed that actually had sensible responses to the dude's questions -- they were just cut from the video.

For those who missed his serious speech at the end. It's great. Terrible quality video, but it's really the audio that matters (although video helps for the car/tunnel metaphor).

It certainly is. It's a good thing that you are here to camp this thread and tell him he's doin' it rong

I'll admit, at first blush I had problems with my comprehension too. Coz I had the odd thought that maybe 2 people could have different opinions about the same event:

for your part, you think the rally is funny and says something profound about how shortsighted and how deeply deeply [enter characteristic invective here] Glenn Beck's rally was.

he thinks it's stupid bread and circus for weak minded people who are depressed about the mid term elections but can use stunts like this to make themselves feel better that their side isn't "losing"

But then I realized that I was doing it wrong too. After I rewatching the videos 5 times I realize that a more suitable post for this thread goes more like this:

Honestly did you hear what Jon Stewart said? Jon Stewart is great. I mean did you hear what he said? Want me to recite it for you or will you look at it if i post a link? Jon Stewart is seriously a great American. I think he's the Messiah, I honestly do. It's the rally to restore sanity, get it? Because the ppl who disagree with us are insane. Get it? Wow that's great. Jon Stewart is great. He's not a comedian you know, that's description isn't enough for JUST HOW IMPORTANT he is to me. He's a modern day social humorist. He's great. Hey did you see how great it was??? I showed this to a friend and he got it so he's smart. But my mom didn't like it... I hope she dies. Her views are what's ****ing up America. Lol see how many people there are? Jon Stewart said that Beck lied about his numbers, but see how many Stewart had??? That's great.

Sorry for the fail the first time round. Obviously sharing the same political opinions as ppl you see on TV makes you smart.

That was the coolest event since Live Aid. I loved every minute of it (on DVR)

Peace Train/Crazy Train/ Love Train was the best .. if you didn't see it:

Yeah man, why are you so unreasonable and insane, you should just mellow out and be above it all like me and Jon Stewart. Things aren't that bad, why are you being so extreme. Be reasonable, like me. And Jon Stewart.

    (1) Stewart (or people at this little rally) aren't especially mellow and they're not "above it all." If they were above it all, they would be home yelling at their TV or posting on the internet. These are people who want a productive political discourse. They wanted to find other people who are interested in a political conversation that doesn't involve "Hussein Obama is a socialist!" or "No blood for oil!"

    (2) Things are bad. Where did anyone say they weren't bad? We have the worst concentration of wealth since the dawn of the great depression. We have the average middle class family's standard of living plummeting like no time since the 1930's. It's bad. Did Stewart or anyone at the rally say it's not bad?

    (3) So if something is bad, are you actually saying it's a good time to be extreme and unreasonable? Seems like the absolute worst time to be unreasonable, and the planet's history of extremism doesn't give one much hope for that angle either.

And for something different, there's this diatribe from Mark Ames. Actually, it's a like like saintcougarmellancamp

Here's the basics from an early section (and warning, some of the language in the full version is NSFW):

"A century-old ideological movement, Liberalism: once devoted to impossible causes like ending racism and inequality, empowering the powerless, fighting against militarism, and all that silly hippie ****—now it’s been reduced to besting the other side at one-liners…and to the Liberals’ credit, they’re clearly on top. Sure there are a lot of problems out there, a lot of pressing needs—but the main thing is, the Liberals don’t look nearly as stupid as the other guys do. And if you don’t know how important that is to this generation, then you won’t understand what’s so wrong and so deeply depressing about the Jon Stewart Rally to Restore Sanity.

That’s what makes this rally so depressing and grotesque: It’s an anti-rally, a kind of mass concession speech without the speech–some kind of sick funeral party for Liberalism, in which Liberals are led, at last, by a clown. Not a figurative clown, but by a clown–and Liberals are sure that this somehow makes them smarter and less lame–and indeed, they are less lame, because they are not taking themselves too seriously, which is something they’re very, very proud of. All great political struggles and ideological advances, all great human rights achievements were won by clown-led crowds of people who don’t take themselves too seriously, duh! That’s why they’re following a clown like Stewart, whose entire political program comes down to this: not being stupid, the way the other guys are stupid–or when being stupid, only stupid in a self-consciously stupid way, which is to say, not stupid. That’s it, that’s all this is about: Not to protest wars or oligarchical theft or declining health care or crushing debt or a corrupt political system or imperial decay—nope, the only thing that motivates Liberals to gather in the their thousands is the chance to celebrate their own lack of stupidity! Woo-hoo
    !"

This is classic Obama speak, define two false extremes and claim the middle ground of sanity.

I'm saying that the concern and outrage being expressed by those that don't share Stewart's ideology is not unreasonable or insane, and it's condescending to cast them in that light.

Stewart doesn't want to engage and defend his leftism, so he stands in the peanut gallery pointing out hypocrisy and casting others as unreasonable and/or insane.

Progressivism is under assault, and all he does is shrug. Even Obama was annoyed with Stewart's posturing, while he is actually trying to implement an agenda.

Cause and effect... if you don't want to be cast in a certain light... at least have some substance...

This is a sad state of affairs we have here in this country. Screaming heads (on both sides) have created this mess.

We need to be united against this:

Whether you support it or not is irrelevant. By your own argument because some guy put up a sign at the Stewart/Colbert rally then Stewart/Colbert supporters must be unreasonable and insane. This is the exact claim you just made about the Tea Party with those pics you posted and your comment.
