We see what we want to see. Are there unreasonable and insane people on the left? Absolutely.

Should we judge an entire group of people based on a few signs held up at their rallies? No.

The problem with the Tea Party image is that there is no clear cut message or leadership. The political figures that promote it (Palin, Beck, etc.) were polarizing figures even before it's inception. You have certain elements within it that are racist, hateful and disgusting and these people need to be called out when they show up wrongfully attacking a group of people. This goes for any political group.

If you are upset about tax rates, proposed gun control laws, court rulings or policies that are against one's religion, etc... by all means use your 1st amendment right to protest and rally around your cause. But if a group decides to fearmonger to promote its cause, it's going to get called out.

I really didn't have much of a problem with Beck's Rally To Restore Honor- except, of course, that I don't understand how we lost honor. If someone can explain that to me, I'd be glad to support it.

    Also, Beck is CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please, please tell me that you understand this simple fact- this is a master manipulator- as a History minor and someone who continues to study history, it is frankly amazing how much of a cherry-picker this guy is- I mean, we all are, to an extent, but Beck has turned it into an art form.

umm yeah.. just like there are plenty of reasonable and sensible people at conservative rallies including Glenn's 9/12 one but you wont see that on a youtube video either cause that stuff is boring and makes for boring entertainment so you get the video above

Well it seems Mr Stewart's rally touched a few nerves.

    Wonder why that is?

Funny, I saw lots of boomers at the rally! In fact, of the 12 people or so I was there with, 8 of them are over 40 and then there were the children of some of those 8.

You really need to let go of the anger. It's gonna kill ya.

That's why approximately 75% of their viewers consist of college grads? It's actually an intelligent audience...

I loved what I saw of it. Party politics aside, Stewart made a lot of good points in his final speech.

Random Aside: I always thought Adam Savage was a lib, but I could have sworn Jamie Hyneman was a conservative...

Pew says it is 37% and that Rush Limbaugh, O'Reilly, and Wall Street Journal have more intelligent audiences.

Actually Stewart did speak this this point DIRECTLY. He said these are "bad times and not the end of times." As such, we should recognize that there is light at the end of the tunnel and we all gotta get there together.

...but maybe that sounds a little too reasonable for you, I suppose.

Typical ignorant, the-media-tells-me-everything-I-need-to-know comment. And you wonder why 200,000+ people show up and probably 100,000+ more are at satellite rallies or watching on TV. Smart a**es that gotta hate because there are numerous people out there who are sick and tired of the nastiness and ugliness on both sides.

sounds a little too eerily similar to Barack's hopey-hopey-change schtick....and we all know where that took us...

What's ignorant about my comment? the Pew link I posted above states that the Daily Show has a very young audience especially compared to other news sources. Only 23% above the age of 50.

I don't wonder this at all.

Interesting. When I read that 2006 report I do indeed see that the Daily Show is down as having 37% of their audience being college grads, but I also see the same number for Limbaugh, 27% for BillO, and the WSJ isn't even listed. It's been awhile since I was in school, but I'm pretty sure = and < are not the same as >.

In a more recent Pew survey, one done last month, WSJ, NYT, and NPR are the three leaders in terms of college grad consumers. Of the personality media, Rachael Maddow tops all, Limbaugh is tied with Colbert, and BillO is below The Daily Show and Countdown.

Also of interest... in terms of age, Colbert's audience is by far the youngest with 75% under 50 and Hannity's is by far the oldest with 65% older than 50.

I wasn't judging intelligence by the number of college grads. Go read the exact same chart you are referring to and you will see they have a "high knowledgeable" category where they asked the audience political questions. That is what I was referring to.

I appreciate you posting a more recent survey. I didn't know one was out. Again Rush and O'Reilly beat out the Daily Show in political I.Q.

To an economy that is no longer in decline?
To the end of a war?
    To the mid terms?
    To Halloween?

Where did it take us? As best as I can tell, American is still the best country on earth. Do you disagree?
