I read it in terms of both current offensive threats and past ones.

The poster you're responding to is right, though. The Celtics having the league leader in assists while running one of the least prolific and efficient offenses in the league is a paradox.

Their offense is currently 10th out of 30 in the young season, but this is expected to regress over the next few months to something similar to last year's levels: 27th out of 30 in the league, in points per 100 possessions. Terrible. Certainly unreasonably bad among NBA teams with playoff hopes.

In the past, the trend was to hang these deficiencies on Rondo and write him off as a regular season, empty stat player. But in the playoffs, where competition is greater and possessions infinitely more valuable, it was Rondo who was one of last season's best playoff performers--both as a scorer (17 PPG) and a distributor (12 APG).

My eyes tell me he would make an excellent spot up shooter in our system.

Pgs that can score and facilitate at the same time are the best. Rondo lacks the scoring ability. Rose and Westbrook lack the facilitating aspect. CP3 has both. D. Will also has both but he is inferior to CP3 in every way. Inferior rebounder, more turnover prone, very poor defender, etc.

    1) Cp3
    2) Healthy Rose
    3) Rondo
    4) D. Will
    5) Westbrook

I still take CP3 over Rondo, but I have a hard time making a case for anybody else after him.

CP3 because if he focused on just passing as much as Rondo does he'd put up better #'s. Instead, he does other things on offense because he can shoot from all over the court.

Watching the Pistons/C's game it was pretty obvious that Rondo was just playing for stats once the game was out of hand, that wasn't very cool imo.

Rondo is definately in the discussion when talking about the top point guards in the game. While he does not score like the other top guys (Paul, Williams, Westbrook and Rose) he probably does everything else better than any of them. He is a triple threat waiting to happen and at 6' that's kind of scary. He is also a good defender and great at forcing turnovers.

Crazy to think he has spent some part of the past 2 seasons on the trading block. Rondo is the type of player that can play with anyone because his game is to set up his teammates and attack the basket, while filling up the stat sheet like no other PG.

It helps when you started out having Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce as teammates for years. Just sayin'.

Steve Nash averaged the same assists with less talented teammates.

Rondo doesn't have the offensive polish that Paul possesses, which limits his entire range.

However, purely as a distributor, since Nash has been on the decline few could say they are on Rondo's level.

I would like to see him play with different players before I really judge. Chris Paul and Deron Williams never had the talented teammates Rondo had, and they averaged better numbers while having a huge impact on their teams.

Keep in mind, last season Rondo and Pierce were really the stars for Boston. Garnett and Allen had moved into secondary roles in the past few seasons. Also, Rondo was the best Celtic during their series against the Heat last year. After LeBron, Rondo was the 2nd best player on the court during that series.

Everytime rondo looks to shoot that's one less opportunity for an assist.

Yeah cp3 is definitely better than Rondo at the moment, but Rondo's passing and defence is something to marvel at.

Sidenote: Rondo is on his way to matching/beating Magic's 46 game double assist streak. Rondo's at 34, I think.

He also lobbied into Doc's head to let him finish out the game to keep that streak alive, despite being a 20-point loss.

Sometimes I feel like Rondo tries to stuff his stat sheet. He takes a lot of pride in getting tons of assists and few points.
