I saw the highlites of the fight. It looks even worse on tv. What is that thing? Did they stich up a wound during the fight? That cant possibly be blood trying to sprout out?!?!
looks like an epidural hematoma... "When a person receives a severe blow to the head, the brain bounces within the cavity. This movement of the brain structures may cause shearing or tearing of the blood vessels surrounding the brain and dura. When the blood vessels tear, blood accumulates within the space between the dura and the skull. This is known as an epidural hematoma (epi-door-ul hem-a-to-ma), or blood clot at the covering of the brain." courtesy of the University of Mo. Health Care Center
After watching 3 channels last night carry different stories on the Tyson-Lewis fight and reading about Rahman-Holyfield, I decided I had to order my first PPV fight since I too will not go to a bar. The suggested retail price is $54.95 If it goes the distance or close to then I guess its worth it for the entertainment value, but I suspect something is going to happen a lot sooner.
the knot was caused by a vicious headbutt from holyfield. It swelled up within seconds and the ring doctor told rahman that it wasn't series unless it affected his vision, once he was told that, he said, "it's affecting my vision", the fight was stopped and they went to the score cards. I don't know what kind of hematoma it was...
That picture was taken after some of the swelling had subsided. I swear at its largest, the lump was the size of a baseball. It was grotesque.
no way...he would be dead if thats what is was and it SURELY isn't a subdural hematoma Anyways it happens BETWEEN the skull and the brain...you wouldn't see it except on a CAT scan. Thats a nasty hematoma, but is looks a lot worse than it is. I bet that bump was almost completely gone the next day. I didn't see the fight, were Holyfield's headbutts really obvious? If so this should be proof.
You can see Holyfield headbutt Rahman, and then the hematoma immediately forms. They fight a little more and it increases in size. One of the ugliest things I've ever seen. There better be a rematch. Holyfield would have won last night regardless of the hematoma IMO
