Rafer in the headlines, yet again NEW YORK -- Houston Rockets guard Rafer Alston was released without bail on Tuesday after being charged with stabbing a man at a Manhattan nightspot -- his second brush with the law this month. Police arrested Alston, 31, early Monday on felony assault charges after responding to a brawl at a nightclub. A criminal complaint alleges that amid the ruckus, he slashed a man at the club in the neck. Alston, who grew up in Queens, was ordered to return to court on Jan. 3. His attorney did not immediately respond to a telephone message. The arrest came three weeks after Alston was charged with misdemeanor assault and public intoxication in Houston. Alston was accused of grabbing a parking attendant's arm, shaking him and spitting on him after Alston's vehicle was towed from a lot. The attendant said Alston parked illegally and did not pay. Alston told a Houston television station he got into a shouting match with the attendant but "nothing transpired." The 6-foot-2 player out of Fresno State joined the NBA during the 1999-2000 season with Milwaukee. He signed with the Rockets in 2004 and averaged 13.3 points last season.
Alston Arrested Again? Just saw on ESPN News that Rafer has been charged with felony assualt after stabbing a man at a NewYork Night club. Guess he is gone for now.......
I read on the Chronicle site that he slashed a man's neck. He was injured and later picked Alston out of a lineup. The Rocket's don't need this. They need to help him pack his bags quickly.
At what point can a team legally cut a player (because of his own legal problems) and not have to pay the luxury tax on them? Is this even possible? I know we don't have a spot for him to play and it seems like it'd be tough to trade him with all this crap going on.
I'm sorry, but what? Rafer always seemed pretty chill in interviews. I hope things work out for him. Maybe he wants to be the new Mad Max.
this is just weird... then again, sounds like the arrest was a part of a brawl after one of Alston's friends got into a dispute with the guy who got slashed. The guy of course has a bone to pick with Alston and co.... and if he wants to sue someone for money, guess who the deep pocket is? I would not find Rafer guildt yet.
If true!!! Wow, Alston is a thug after all of this? Here we were all thinking he was a team captain. He was the motor who brought up the ball without turning it over. He was the guy who gave up the ball to Yao and McGrady when they called it. Too bad for Alston. But I think that if he is convited of the Felony, most Pro Contracts do have stipulations that if they perform certain actions their contract is voided. A felony stabbing I would think would be cause for terminating a contract. There and then the Rockets would not have to worry about the Luxury tax any longer. Problem solved.
It's posted in the other Rafer thread. Apparently, the bouncer said he saw the whole thing and Rafer didn't stab anybody. Also, the guy who accused Rafer has no witnesses that can cooberate (sp?) his story. Something smells fishy.
I was completely judgemental in my prior post. I could foresee a situation where a person needed to defend themselves. In that case, each person has to make decisions they can live with for the rest of their lives. Here's hoping you are a good individual Raefer Alston.
Man if he gets out of this one. He needs to just stay home...forever. He should only make personal appearances for work and needs to stay out of the night life. Its very uncharacteristic of him. ever since joining the rockets until this summer, he has been a good model citizen.
Skip's having the worst offseason ever. If this one isn't real, then I really feel sorry for the guy. If it is real, he should get what's coming to him.
Is it a conincidence that he's in yet another story of a scuffle and someone jumps in to defend his poor game? I've seen people here call Bonzi a headcase, call him names. I've seen people here call Steve Francis names like cancer and headcase, and I've seen people here call Mike James names headcase, cancer, selfish and so on. Yet none of these guys have been in the news because of the law or the fact that they blow as players. Time to depart with Skip to my Lou.
Geez, just heard this on the radio. Shocking to say the least, Rafer has been a good guy for all his time in Houston. At first I immediately thought Rafer is having a REALLY hard time dealing w/ the offseason, but the story seems to have some major holes in it and hopefully this is just some idiot trying to take advantage of the situation. The police actually filed felony charges, so that means the police thinks this is a credible case, correct?
I guess it wasn't hard to pick Rafer out of a line-up. He's the rich NBA player that this person is probably looking to milk for some cash.
I don't think he's either a slasher or a shooter. Get Well Though, Rafer Because I Like You As A Person Good Luck
It's possible that these charges were brought up because everyone knew of his recent arrest. For many people, this would add credibility to both cases.
