http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/b...bridget_moynahan_to_tom_brady_take_a_hik.html Have you already read that? For me it looks like it was/is all about money, money and again money...
Yep... GMs would try to buy him cheap. But I think it has more to do with the PG market of his "level" than his image. Anyone notice the fact that Rafer was released without bail? Where is Rafer's agent in all this?!?!?!? If this is indeed a filing false charges incident, as it is looking to be. Should they file charges on this guy who is claiming Rafer stabbed him? Wouldn't that be a good idea in flipping the public's perception of him? Surely that would be a headline story. It would spark a debate and you would see a lot of players on their individual stories.
Here is the text for those who don't feel like clicking on the link. I still don't go why a slashing victim would drive away from the police at the club, go to the hospital, and then call the cops. Wouldn't the cops in the 2 patrol cars at the club provide a police escort to the hospital for you and act as witnesses? A slashing rebuttal Stereo nightclub co-owner Barry Mullineaux is calling foul over allegations of a stabbing early Monday on his premises. Houston Rockets guard Rafer Alston was charged with assault after a fellow patron claimed the NBA player slashed him in the neck. "We have hired investigators, we have looked at the video, and we do not think this happened at the club," Mullineaux told me yesterday. "And nobody saw anything. Someone would have seen something if this guy had been stabbed in the neck." The club owner says security video shows a "small verbal confrontation" at 3:04 a.m. between the alleged victim and Alston’s entourage over a spilled bottle: "But that's all," he says. "They continued drinking." Mullineaux also points out that two police cars were stationed outside the club all night, and officers were not aware of the assault.
If this is an extortion case, I hope they take the other guy, put him in a pink dress and throw his butt in prison and then throw away the key.
http://blogs.chron.com/franblinebury/2007/08/has_dikembe_mutombo_been_hangi.html August 30, 2007 Has Dikembe Mutombo been hanging out with Roger Clemens? The next thing you know, we'll be hearing that Dikembe Mutombo is working on his fastball and is ready to throw a little chin music at Carlos Boozer next spring in the playoffs. Can you imagine Deke as Roger Clemens? Well, consider that one of the possibilities that the 41-year-old center is rolling around inside his venerable head is sitting out the first couple of months of the season and maybe joining the Rockets in January when he gets a gauge on how they're playing and where he might fit into Rick Adelman's new scheme. It is just a possibility, but it is an interesting twist as Mutombo continues to weigh the pros and cons of playing another season in the NBA. The pros of such a scenario for the Rockets is that it could keep Mutombo fresher for the playoffs, when Adelman feels he truly needs another veteran defensive presence behind Yao in the middle. The con is that it usually take Mutombo several months to play his way into game shape and develop a rhythm and, with a completely revamped look to the team, he might still be lost when the post-season arrives. Mutombo and Rockets general manager Daryl Morey met about 10 days ago in Atlanta and had a pleasant discussion. The Rockets had earlier made an offer of roughly $1.2 million, but would likely be willing to go as high as $1.9 million (the maximum they can pay) to have Mutombo back. There is believed to be maybe one other team out there showing interest. But the general feeling is that if Mutombo plays in 2007-08, it will be with the Rockets. The whole season or half of it? Seems the Rocket Effect could spill over to the Rockets. Either way, I'll try to pry a decision out of Deke next week when I see him in Johannesburg, South Africa. I'll be in the neighborhood, enroute to a safari at Kruger National Park. He'll be making his annual pilgrimmage to the motherland for take part in the NBA Basketball Without Borders program. • • • Much rush to judgment on the Rafer Alston situation. Hold onto your horses. There's a whole lot of the legal system to play out before the Rockets could even dream of voiding the three years, $15 million left on his contract. Unless somebody comes forward with evidence — or at least a witness — on behalf of the guy who says he was slashed/stabbed by Alston, it could end up as just another bad decision by a guy who should know better than to put himself into that type of situation. Is it fair that an NBA player can't go out on the town in any town without fear of being a possible target? No. Life isn't fair. It's a tradeoff that celebrities make for their fame and fortune. What Alston has likely done is sealed his fate in Houston, though he's made it difficult for the Rockets to deal him. Charlotte, in need of a point guard, re-upped Jeff McInnis. Miami is still looking around, but not in this or any other lifetime are they going to give up Udonis Haslem for Alston. Cleveland could still use another point guard to slide in alongside Daniel Gibson, but the Cavs aren't just going to hand over draft picks. Boston could use somebody to drive that brand new Eastern Conference limo. But would you give the keys to Rafer? • • • The more you see of Luis Scola in the FIBA Americas tournament, the more you see just what a solid player he is. He scored 23 and had 12 rebounds in the win over Brazil on Wednesday. He continued to show his mid-range shot. He made a strong move for dunk early. He hit a big jumper in overtime. And most impressively, he found a way to get to the line 18 times. As SportsIllustrated.com said, he's the best player in the tournament who has never played a minute in the NBA. It will be fun to watch him against Team USA. • • • Yes, you read that earlier item right. You're back on your own for the next couple of weeks. I'm bound for South Africa, in search of lions, leopards, elephants, rhino and cape buffalo — the big five. But I'm gonna stop in at Basketball Without Borders, where the top 100 African prospects gather each year, and might drop you an update if I spot an 8-foot power forward that Rick Adelman can use next spring. Be good and talk among yourselves. Posted by Fran Blinebury at August 30, 2007 04:57 PM
^^^^^ what the hell does this have to do with Rafer? didnt you just post this in another thread right after complaining that we are all too excited about the arrival of Scola? methinks the Rookie wants badly to start a new thread...
Not that Alston is a great player, but I had always felt that this board was too harsh on him. Now I lost a lot of respect for him, not because I believe he is guilty in this charge, but because of his attitude this whole offseason. First, he said he was out, right after we signed James. Then he refused to practice here, refused to talk to the new coach, and got himself into problem situations more than once. His attitude is no better than Spanoulis'. He's a quitter shrunk away from challenges. It's funny that some people who bashed Spanoulis would defend Rafer here.
i certainly agree with that. I know what you aer saying about his comments and such but i tthats pretty much what everyone though and said...he was just being honest. The practice situations and talking to coach, i dont know what to make of it. I'm not sure the circumstances but im sure he is a bit unsure right now and i dont know how upfront and honest management has been with him. he's sort of getting dragged along right now and im sure its frustrating. about the "putting himself in bad situtions"...the parking attendant thing was overblown. Im sure he was upset and got touchy with the dude but i doubt it was a true "assault" (i dont consider touching to automatically be assault). The other, slashing story, is just a liar looking for cash...when someone wants to do that you cannot prevent that type of situation no matter what you do
And you believe JVG was absolutely honest with Spanoulis? LOL, this is what I meant about the double standard of bashing Spanoulis but defending Alston. Or did the double standard come from the fact that JVG loved one and hated the other?
He just sees the situation differently.....he doesn't judge Rafer in those instances. Neither do I. The parking lot deal WAS overblown. I seriously doubt that there would be one person on this site that would have been calm in a situation where their car was towed when you paid to park. Yet...judgement is passed like street sweepers. The slashing was bogus too....I just hate to see people's name and reputation toss around like rag dolls. And no, I don't buy that because he's rich and famous and out late was "asking" for it. Bull, no one "ask" for anything like that. No one should judge people who enjoy spending their leisure time in a club......since when it was wrong to meet women, drink, socialize and dance?
He is making millions of dollars to do a job. Is it too much to ask a guy to keep out of trouble for the sake of his million dollar job? You are using the standard for ordinary people. NBA players are not ordinary people. They make much more money than the average Joe. They have much more "vacation" time to do things most people cannot afford. You can't have both. You can't live like a celebrity but not want the media attention. You can't make lots of money but not want the money diggers to follow you around. If you want to enjoy the private life of an ordinary man, then go get an ordinary job.
What??? So you're saying that since he's a rich athlete, he should be held at a different standard? He's not human because his bank account has a few more zeros than the majority? Come on! NO ONE DESERVES TO BE EXTORTED. Rich athletes don't deserve the benefit of the doubt because they have vacation houses, cars, women, fame and money? You said, You can't live like a celebrity but not want the media attention. You can't make lots of money but not want the money diggers to follow you around. You're right....you can't live a celebrity life and not expect media coverage or digger, but when you are being dragged around in the mud for something you didn't do....the athlete is suppose to be ok with it because he's rich and famous...suck it up and let people talk about him and blame him for things...label him a thug because he goes club'n? Sound like envy issues.
I comprehend fully....I read in and between the lines and it's obvious. Now if you don't mind.... I'm off to pick on parking lot attendants and drop a few crystal bottles....you know, get my "thug" on lol
