I agree in principle, Span had those minutes after Snyder went down, but JL3 has played better and put Span on the 3rd team. Honestly, I imagine even JL3 will rarely see court time once Snyder and Bonzi are back. That's not a bad thing, both have big holes in their game to work on in practice still. I'm just pumped about our chances if healthy in playoffs, especially if we can hold onto the 6th seed.
Truthfully, I think the growing pains of V-Span would be over in about a month or so of consistent play. If I were the coach, I would be playing V-Span as the primary backup at PG from day one, with a short leash. DD
yes but at least he makes his shots and dont turn the ball over (only 4 TOs in 109 mn so far this season ) ... but too bad he's too small to guard anyone ... i dont like alston but he's our better option at PG right now ...
I would have done the same thing, but unfortunately we don't have the luxury of seeing how he is playing in practice against the other guys. I take JVG at his word when he says he goes with the players he thinks give him the best chance to win that particular game. That said, I am also very glad we have JL3 and Span for multiple seasons, I think both are legit NBA players. We had somewhat of a coup by signing those 2 and Novak for multiple years after we did the Gay trade. By signing Bonzi and obtaining Battier we did all we could to "win now", while we helped offset the loss of Gay by signing the young trio we did for multiple seasons. Call me an optimist, but I consider it a good balance of "win now" and building for the future.
Having watched JL III in summer league. I couldn't believe the Rox gave him a guaranteed deal. Once teams catchup with fact that he can't go left and finish they're going to push him left and make him try the fadeaway. That's what happen all summer on team consisting of him, TJ Ford, Duke-Clipper dude, and Big Baby out of LSU. JL III is definitely not a starter in the L. He's playing the only role available and his doing a good job. I definitely like his jumper better than Rafer, Rafer's jumper looks like a switch blade opening with zero arch.
and who will start? luther?...then whose your scoring off the bench? Plus, luther is still learning the pg role. jl3? yeah right. love him, but no vpsan? hah
I don't know why I haven't made the link until now, but Rafer and Sleepy Floyd bascially have the same body: 6'2",6'3", 170 lbs. How could Floyd finish so well and Rafer struggle so much? I'm thinking Rafer's drives can be finished with something other than a baby hook or tear drop. It will take some revelations by him and some practice.
He won't be our best PG the whole season. We will make a trade. One thing we know about the Rockets is they aren't afraid of pulling the trigger to make a deal and they want to win now.
You obviously didn't watch the game. Skip took good shots and had a few in and outs. Just because you do the roll eyes doesn't make you smart. See?
We need a 25 year old Derek Fisher. I just want my PG to be good defensively and attempt 5 or 6 shots a game. We don't need a PG who attempts 15-20 shots a night and makes only 5-7 shots.
I watched the game and Skip shot TOO DANGED MUCH !!!! The guy is a horrible shooter and can't make a driving tear drop to save his life. He did control the ball fairly well as 8 assists and only 1 turnover attest...but as a PG he shoots FAR too much..... And that would not be a problem if he was not so horrible at shooting. DD
No, the best point we have is buried on the bench behind JL3...you know the one with professional experience, and excellent vision? V-Span is a better passer than Rafer...and with time will be a MUCH better player too. I understand why JVG is not playing him but dang....Rafer has been horrible lately. DD
What about the assist to turnover ratio of 8? Not to mention that WE WON THE GAME against a solid j*zz team. You're just a hater. I'm sorry that not every player on this team can play up to your expectations. Of course he's taking a bunch of shots that aren't going in, but WE ARE WINNING! Stop whining.
i agree... like i said.. i like every other aspect of his game besides his shooting, but that's a big deal if he's going to shoot 15 shots a game. if only he can keep his shot attempts to 8 or under then no one would be complaining. even if he missed 5 out of 8, it's only 5 misses instead of 12.
Rafer was 4-7 on 3pt attempts, 8 assists, 1 turnover ...and we won. ...oh and Rafer is still playing better than Mike James. bwahaha Can't have an allstar at every position. I wouldn't mind upgrading Rafer but we can win with him on the floor, obviously, so I'm not losing sleep. James: 12-2-4 player effeciency 11.1 Rafer: 13-3.5-5 player effeciency 12.8
