Well, Battier played defense on Kobe, and Battier rebounded. Rafer didn't do anything else. Everyone will miss shot, that's not the problem The problem is he missed shots he wouldn't have chance to make it, which means he shouldn't have taken some of them in the first place. If that's not bad enough, those quick 3 pointers in transition (TMac like 3 pointers) really killed our momentum. Why the heck would a pass first PG ever take that kind of shots, especially he never really had a good percentage shooting 2 points in transition. Not only that, 3 in a row, when our offense were clicking, when our front line was fighting hard?? I am really shocked and so pissed, and I am also pissed that JVG didn't sit his a$$ down right away.
Rafer has taken the 5th most 3 pointers in the entire league with 122 attempts and is only hitting 37% of them.
the main problem is that there isn't a better option right now. in 3 years hayes, head, billy, novak, snyder, and lucas will be all solid role players and compliments to yao. the problem is that tmac, shane, rafer and howard won't be able to help them. the future is bright, but some of our vets have to go so we can develop our future. i know we're trying to win now. i don't agree with it. we're not in the same catagory as the spurs, mavs, suns. we might be in 3 years, before tmac isn't capable of being an all-star. i just don't know which side of the fence i'm on right now.
But 37% is an above average percentage. I get the feeling that Rafer takes a lot of bad threes. He might be shooting over 40%, but he takes a lot of shots off the dribble or in transition that seem to be very poor percentage. I wish the numbers were around somewhere, but I'd bet he doesn't convert well on those shots.
More like 35.7. He is shooting 37% total. Unless JL3 finds some of his Summer magic, none of our PG's will hit much this year.
vspan should be give more minutes at point He's kind of a combo guard but he IS mostly a pg.. He was never considered that much of a shooter. Even by looking at his stat line, if you didnt know you'd think it was a pg's stat line. His turnovers are starting to go down and he seems to be making better passing decisions. 4 assists to 1 TO tonight. His shooting % is not good enough for him to play sg and at least he realises and doesnt take as many shots as a true sg would. He should play PG more and pair him up with one of the other young shooters. Playing him at point should also allow him to hustle for boards a bit more..
I meant to add - I am fine with him shooting the wide open 3 because the offense creates it, but I HATE when he is leading a break (regardless of the defense) and he pulls up for a mid range shot with nobody underneath. Easy rebound for opposition and a momentum killing kind of play.
Actually before tonight, he was shooting 37% total and from 3. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/stati...t=0&season=2007&seasontype=2&avg=none&pos=all
rafer is the worst pg in the league. i really think that. people say he has handles, but what good are handles when you can't penetrate or do anything with them? i'd take tyronne lue over him anyday. i still can't believe we traded MIKE JAMES for skip2mypoo. i just can't believe it...
Technically, you were correct. Before the Laker's game, Rafer was shooting 37.4% from 3pt land. That was good enough for 48th place out of 97 qualified 3pt shooters. Actually, wouldn't that make him average? Anyhow, now he's below average at 55th place. Sadly, he is the best starting PG we've got. The Rockets have just not done a great job at filling their needs. JVG sad during the off season that they needed shooters and athletes. I guess Novak and Snyder fit the bill, but neither are playing right now. Battier has not really become a great high volume shooter yet, and he still sucks from every 3pt spot other than the corners, so the Rockets need to stop having him rotate to the top 3pt line when Yao gets doubled. Man, Phoenix has been finding great fits for their team every year with from Q-Rich to Barbosa to James Jones to Raja Bell. The Rockets did a great job 2 years ago in bringing in Wesley, Barry, and Mike James. I hope they can just make one nice shooter acquisition this year. For the Rockets to be a great team, it would be a big help to have great 3pt shooting, not average or even above average 3pt shooting. If Phoenix had just above average or average shooters, they wouldn't be contenders. We need better personel.
if you just take the recent 10 games, would that still be 37% on 3pt line? I guess no! Rafer performed much better in the beginning of this season.
a fg % of 37 is just not gonna cut it for a starting NBA pg. i hope he gets better or the rockets are gonna have to go to plan b.
john lucas put rafer to shame tonight, i would like to see him run the offense more than rafer at this point. and i would like to see luther head take more shots than rafer every night. seriously if luther head took those extra 5 shots that rafer gets he would hit at least 2 or 3 of those. luther head can be a legit 17 ppg player (like a monta ellis) for us if we gave him more shots and rafer less.
If you say vspan can't shoot, and has pg numbers, then does he really improve the pg situation?? no, it doesn't because everyone is barking at how rafer can't shoot. Since vspan can't shoot, then how much of an improvement is that?? other teams will leave vspan open as well, and force him to shoot those 3's that he can't shoot. So he wouldn't be an improvement over rafer.
