T-Mac's absence is directly related to Rafer playing 43 minutes and Bonzi playing poorly. They assigned Bowen to Bonzi this game. That's not possible if T-Mac is on the court. If T-Mac is playing, Bowen has to guard him. Bowen has a strong enough body to match up with Bonzi, which forced him to take outside jumpers, which is obviously not his game. I would love to see the Spurs front Yao if T-Mac is driving hard to the basket all the time. Then Yao by default wouldn't allow his man to play help defense, since Yao is already between his man and the basket.
If Rafer's a traditional pass first point guard, then we need something else. Looks like sh$t, smells like sh$t, probably is sh$t
Is Steve really out of shape? That was mentioned on ESPN and by several posters on the site. But according to Jon of Chronicle in his earlier blogs, Steve was not out of shape. Jon even mentioned 6 versus 8 packs on Steve's belly. Maybe many posters are just right, Coach A is just as stubbern as Coach Gundy.
Tonight against SA, it would be nice to give some of Rafer PT to Steve (10-12 min). 43 min is too much for Rafer.
if you could combine all three you would have an over dribbling, brick laying, tear drop raining, ball hogging guard with a lot of heart.
I don't think any of them are perfect fits. They all have their pluses and minuses. Alston - Good ball handler - nice passer - horrid shooter James - Good one on one player - disrupts offense by trying too hard to get his own Francis - Good shooter, plays with passion - Dribbles far too much and attitude stinks right now. Brooks - Good shooter - good passer - too short and is a rookie Luther - Good shooter - bad passer - and handles not the best So we have a PG by committee and honestly, the best one out of all of those at putting pressure on the other team....is Brooks.....maybe Adelman should be getting him some time. Because out of all of them, he has the best chance to run the offense well.....and we could use a Chris Paul light running our team. DD
Rather develop AB0 if Rafer keep playing like this. I doubt Rafer will improve and will continue to be the weak link.
if you want steve to play, don't ask for minutes from alston. you need to start with head and work your way up to james, even though in reality brooks has first dibs.
Why does his attitude stink right now. I haven't even heard anything from him or seen anything wrong since the first game where he looked like he didn't want to be there. Ever since that Steve has been a team player, he hasn't ask for a trade or said anything to the media. Hubie Brown said that since he is not playing he still is taking it great and working his way in the rotation. He bought 82 jerseys to give other people even if he didn't play. As far has his attitude I think it is far from being bad.
actually, I think you might want to reconsider this statement: good shooter: 10% from 3 point line in 07-08 season, 36% from field.. not good Bad passer: check! (you might want to update it to horrible though) Handles not the best: Litotes (understatement). correct should be => can't pass (to a fellow rockets player) worth a crap. however, he is a great passer to other teams' guards, clutch the bear, coach Rick Adelman, and fans on the 10th row.. just to add one more: Horrible Defense: can't defend worth a crap. gets burned by guards of all kinds. not quick enough to keep himself in front of the opponent, allows guards to blow right by him, can't defend the jump shot (either horrible reaction time or not enough effort AKA Stromile syndrome), frequently loses his man which results in easy baskets, his help defense is always late, frequently fouls when double teaming a big man and taking a whack at the ball...that's not mentioning the fact that he is giving at least 3-4 inches in height to other shooting guards. So basically, we have ourselves the same problem with David Wesley, except Luther isn't a veteran, doesn't have David's strong body, has an BBall IQ of about 0, and isn't shooting necessarily well (unless you consider 10% a good percentage). so I think it's time, trade Luther for a bag of potato chips (preferably flamin' hot baked cheetos) ..
It's the same. Alston gave some min to James then James to Head then to Francis because James and Head can play PG/SG and 43 min is just too much.
I'm sure he's getting a chance to prove himself in practice, just like all the other guys are. Just because we fans have to see a guy in an actual game to make any assessments about him doesn't mean the coaches can't make informed decisions without putting them in games. Adelman knows how all of these guys are performing in practices, scrimmages. We don't have any idea how they are doing. For all we know, Steve and AB could be doing horribly. Yet somehow, everyone on here thinks he knows better than Adelman (who, by the way, is paid millions precisely because he is one of the best basketball coaches in the world).
How long does Adelman have on his contract? If we lose in the first round because Rafer sucks bad and he doesn't give SF a shot..... can we fire him after this season?
