Rafer says he's been inconsistent and fires a multi page debate.

to further fire the ire of Rocket fans, ico suggests; water is wet & fire is hot.

Here's a 3-game moving average for Rafer's FG% the past 3 seasons. I'll let you decide if "inconsistency" is in the rear-view mirror or around the bend.

c'mon Clutch. Don't you know anything? It's all scale these days. What you need to do is increase that scale to 500% and it'll look flat as pancake.

That's a really interesting graphic Clutch, but don't you think we could do that for just about every player in the league and still see ups and downs?

I agree Rafer has struggles and cold spells, but so does Tmac, so does Shane, so does everyone on the team.

I guess my point is, like Battier says, it always balances out in the end.

Rafer Alston, at top of everything, is 4.x mil per year PG, you cant seriously expect too much from that price tag.

    ...I love you Clutch.
Look, I'm by no means a Ralston hater. Not in the slightest. But I'm a realist. The guy has always been and always will be a streaky shooter. Period. Shooting is not his strength, and it never will be.

And we go through this EVERY year. Yes, Ralston is playing some of the best ball of his career. And every year, people on ClutchFans jump on and off the bandwagon. Fact is, Ralston is going to make people think he's God's gift to man in the hot streaks and a pox on the Rockets in the cold ones.

and pragmatic Rocket fans must ask, again, where's the alternate?

b****, moan, whine about Alston all yah want. where is the better solution and what will it cost to procure him? clearly an upgrade at point could make us markedly better. we entered this season with MJ, SF3 & drafted a rookie pg. while AB remains a possible compliment, RA is the best option to date.

i'd luv to improve this position ... just don't wanna lose too much fer another marginally possible pg experiment.

Minor nitpick - you included the first 2 games of each season, for which there can be no 3-game moving average.

Also, looking closer, I do think Rafer has become a little bit more consistent. He tends to float around 40% for longer stretches, and dips into the sub-40% range aren't as severe.

Neat graphic. Yeah, it a good bet that Rafer will go through another of those 35% shooting stretches before the end the season. Hopefully, he gets going in the playoffs, though.

35% stretches are bad, but what really kills us is the sub-30% stretches.
