yup and a jump shooter lives and dies with his stroke. it's not like he's a Tmac who can improve his game by taking smarter shots. those shots rafer was missing earlier this year were set up open jumpers, not circus shots off 1 foot or with a hand in his face.

to act like he's turned a corner... well that's disingenuous. if he was taking bad shots and disciplined himself, or was taking jumpers and now is driving to the basket, that's something you can improve your game by doing.

but rafer is doing the same thing he was doing earlier... taking open jumpers and 3 pointers. anyone who's played basketball will tell you that comes and goes. rafer WILL slump again at some point. you have to just hope he keeps his head up and keeps shooting and that his teammates continue to have faith in him when he starts to miss

and yes rafer is "our X factor" by virtue of him taking the most 3s in on the team game in and game out. by simple math when he hits his shots, rockets usually win

He's dealing with things like RULES and GOOD PLAYERS and SET PLAYS -- things that typically don't exist on the And1 Mixtapes. And I haven't even mentioned the beating he'd take for wasting that much time on the SHOT CLOCK.

EDIT: Sorry for the double post! I had different pages opened up in different tabs and forgot they were both part of the same thread. Oops!

I'm not sure why people act like there's this long history of playoff failure with Alston and the Rockets. They've only been in one playoff series. There are players/teams in the league who have been able to bounce back from a bad playoff series.

So you are saying Baron Davis isn't an elite guard? I'm not jocking Rafer I think he is a good player not excellent but he can get the job done. He's not a chump like your statement made him out to be...and whoever compared him to cassell is foolish thats a wholenother league buddy

Rafer at his best is now and it was much like when he was in miami when him and Wade were going off in the playoffs. He needs that confidence again which i see him gaining as of late

Rafer is the probably the most underappreciated player in the league. I shudder to think what would happen to this team if he went down with an injury.

Rafer has been playing some of the best ball of his career during this stretch. But come playoff time he will need to play at this level or better every single game or we are in trouble. There is no room for error at our PG position as things stand right now.

If we win the championship with Rafer as our starting point guard, it will be because he made a very significant contribution, came through consistently in the clutch, and obliterated his previous regular season and playoff shooting percentages. He will have proven himself clutch.

I won't immortalize him, don't believe in immortalizing mere men.

But I will definitely change my signature and give him all his props.

    ;)

one thing is consistent for Rafer: he will always bust his ass for 40 minutes every night to chase those elite guards. His shot can be off. His effort wont.

    Rafer for MVP.

I know the answer to this- absolutely yes. Kenny Smith was absolutely ripped by Houston sports fans for his inconsistency, including his performance in the 1994 finals where Derek Harper abused him. Yet, Game 1 in the 1995 Finals, Kenny sealed his legacy with Houston by hitting the 7 3-pointers, including the game-tying one.

I'm not that confident yet, because during the Sacto game he passed up 2 wide open three's. On one of those he passed to Landry as the shot clock was expiring.

Rafer is a good 1st - 3rd Period player. He will cough up a game down the stretch.

I would also give credit to our coach for Rafer's consistency. We are having a better offense system and Rafer feels good about it.

Rafer's importance to the team has been documented with every game he's missed over the last two years. It's really clear that he's the best we got and that he is the best facilitator we have to get the ball to Yao and get out of McGrady's way. He's far from perfect, but he's solid.

so you're telling me that a player left wide open all the time, who can make the shot consistantly will lead to wins? Get outta here!
