I'd bet good money that MLB has known about this for some time but decided to keep quiet until after his 3000 hit celebration. 10 games? Gimme a damn break. Ban the juicers from baseball forever. We don't need these scumbags tarnishing such a great game.
Skip Bayliss (sp) is on Rome's show gloating because he's been saying Palmero shouldn't be in the Hall. How ironic that he's guest hosting today. Some caller just asked doesn't roids make you impotent?
Palmiero-- "I have never intentionally used steroids. Never. Ever. Period," he said. "Ultimately, although I never intentionally put a banned substance into my body, the independent arbitrator ruled that I had to be suspended under the terms of the program." "never intentionally"
Palmiero is sort of Ron Mexico-ish, what with the tan and mooo-stache. I don't think he could be juicing up, doesn't that hinder your ablity to perform manly deeds? He is like an emalgam George Hamilton, Wayne Newton and Julio Iglesias who can hit like crazy. Regarding the whole perjury thing, I think he probably just started taking steroids a few weekends ago, long after the testimony. He would not lie to our nations young people like that. Oh wait, didn't he do Erectile Dysfunction ads? Ron Mexico indeed. Was that him? He must have always play for teams I don't care about, I have never noticed him.
Did it say that he took steroids or some "performance enhancing drug"? I don't pretend to know all the ins and outs of MLB's drug policy, but I'm sure that there are a lot of things out there that he may have taken in the past for an injury that are not true steroids that have stayed in his system that may be on the illegal list now. It should be interesting to see how this one plays out.
Palmeiro to be suspended for steroids; denies use Wow! Rapheal busted... He better be seriously concerned, since he just got busted with roids, and he lied in front of congress a while ago. Prison may be calling ... lying to congress is a felony. Aside from that, how can you be that stupid to keep using it. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2121659
As a fantasy owner, I can tell you this, his stats were awesome the last month and in the beginning of the season they royally sucked. Makes you wonder.
I just can't believe he gave that testimony with two bottles of Roid Water sitting right in front of him... The nerve of some people.
If it was steroids, he may not make the hall. It seems to me that the elusive high moral standard thinking will kick in. McGwire wasn't caught until after he left the game so I think he may be borderline. But Palmeiro, caught using during, and after the policy was in place, will cause him a lot of trouble in regards to the hall.
Just makes me wonder that with Palmero getting caught, how does this play into when and if Barry will return to the game.
MLB players are like a gang: they all know the dirty things going on within their own community/gang/group, but vow to one another to keep it secret. However, when one former gang member comes clean about their secrets and airs their dirty laundry out for everyone to see/hear, they turn against that person and attempt to discredit him and threaten him into silence. Just because Jose is a scum of a person, doesn't mean he isn't telling the truth. This baseball era is tainted for good, every single record in this era will be looked at as invalid and disregarded by fans, which is how it should be. No wonder I lost interest in baseball a long time ago, while I still follow the Astros every now and then.
What does Palmiero getting caught have to do with Bonds. If Bonds comes back and gets caught he's an even bigger idiot. All he has to do is not use. Someone big getting caught actually helps a guy like Bonds because fans can't say that MLB won't out its major stars.
You mean, that same elusive standard that let in Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Gaylord Perry and that NY Giants exec who was caught gambling?
Sports in genral, I don't believe this is "baseball" problem, there is just too much money out there for these players for anyone to think they are not going to do everything in their power to get every last cent available. I say we disband sports and give every cent generated by or wasted on towards real life heors like our military personal or school teachers. No more of my money is going to these people ever again.
Summer song brought up canseco in the other thread. Pointing out that it lends support to his book. I am still amazed that, of all people, it was Jose Canseco who may have saved the game of baseball. He's like an obnoxious hero, who doesn't even get what he's done, or doing, is practically fighting for the wrong cause, and yet, he's the one who finally cleaned up the game of baseball. It's such a fascinating story to me. It reminds me of that movie the Postman. A guy who stumbles into all the right answers even though he has no intention, or want, of leading the cause.
