Unless the radio spots were obvious obvious obvious jokes, she deserves the money. And, the station deserves the penalty. I don't think the FCC wants bs contests being run on the airwaves all the time. According to the article, the FCC has already punished stations that tried to be cute by paying in foreign currency. This is comparable, but worse.
That's probably what should happen...As dumb as it sounds, she'll probably win and then less lawyers fees of about 1/3, she'll piss it all away...
The woman should have used her common sense. Since when do radio stations ever give out $100,000 for doing nothing? Radio contest winners rarely ever get anything more than maybe a couple hundred dollars or some free tickets to a ball game. If some Joe Schmoe radio DJ suddenly advertised a contest to win $100,000 right out of the blue, I would think most radio listeners would know there's a 99% chance it's just some hoax or prank. If most radio listeners knew it was a scam, I don't think the woman has much of a case.
If those giveaways are worth some ridiculous sum of money that is a hundred times more than any other giveaway that the radio station has ever promoted, than I would hope to think most radio listeners would know it's probably just some joke.
Free hand out? I wonder if you ever play the lottery looking for your free hand out or look under the lid of coke to see you won a free coke because you are to cheap to buy another one. They said they were having a contest and if you were the 10th caller you would be "100 grand richer." 610 and other stations just had contest not long ago where they gave away 10 grand 5 times a day for a month to someone who did nothing but happened to be the 10th(?) caller.
You should have gone to this guy's bank... http://www.goodthink.com/writing/view_stories.cfm?id=11&page_id=2
