    Chance,

Who decides what goes in the postgame show? I get tired of Ackerman's recap of the game. Why don't they take the Van Gundy interview live like Fox Sports Net does? I'd much rather hear Jeff speak.

610 used to be good. Now the morning show is almost as annoying as the Dan Patrick show.

I liked Mike and Mike on 790. The new local guys arent half as bad as those two idiots on 610.

Then give me Jim Rome anyday over Dan Patrick.

There can't possibly a dumber person in sports radio then John Granado (sp?). So I listen to Charlie on 790.

But Mike and Adam are easily my two favoirte guys in sports radio.

The more stations the better. That way you atleast have a choice.

I moved from Houston four years ago, they don't still do "Trailer, Wheel and Frame" or the basketball hoop commercials where Van Chancellor talks about his grandkid Nicholas?

KBME gains on KILT during afternoon drive

    By DAVID BARRON
    Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle

KILT (610 AM) remained the dominant sports talk station in Houston in the summer Arbitron ratings book, but the race for listeners in afternoon drive time has tightened to the point where the stations are on the same page.

In the men age 25-54 target demographic weekdays, KILT dropped from a 4.2 share during the spring book to a 3.0 share during the 3 to 7 p.m. afternoon drive slot. KBME (790 AM) went from 2.0 in
the spring to 2.2 in the summer.

Coincidentally, that puts KILT, which tied for 11th, and KBME, which tied for 16th in the market, on the same page of the detailed ratings printout for the time slot. That's the first time they've been on the same page, literally or figuratively, since Clear Channel switched KBME to sports in December 2004.

"It's nice to be on the same page. It's easier to look at the ratings," said Ken Charles, Clear Channel's regional vice president. "They came back down to earth, to a more realistic reflection of their ratings, and KBME is growing."

Charles still has to flip pages, however, in the other dayparts.

From 6 a.m. to midnight Monday through Sunday, KILT dropped from 3.7 in the spring to 2.8 in the summer for 12th place but still has a comfortable lead over KBME, which went from 1.2 to 1.5 (23rd place).

KILT dropped more than two points in morning drive to 3.3 (9th place), while KBME came in with a 1.3 share for 21st place. The June 29-Sept. 20 book reflects only three weeks of KBME's new morning show, which premiered Aug. 21.

KCOH (1430 AM), which also does sports on weekday afternoons, had a 0.3 share in afternoon drive, down from 0.7 in the spring.

From 7 p.m. to midnight, KILT has a 2.1 share, up from 0.9, to 1.1 for KBME, down from 1.3.

Bill Van Rysdam, KILT's operations director, said, "I'm pleased that we're still the No. 1 sports station. I think we have the best talent, and I'm looking forward to football and Rockets basketball (for the fall book)."

I turned it on 610 for two seconds this morning and heard Lance doing his Russian voice. Ugh.

Not suprising... people know Pallilo's has a better show, and is more informative than Lord and Vandemeer. What's suprised me lately, however, was Dalati actually giving INFORMATIVE sports updates, and filling people in on big Rockets/Texans/Astros stories instead of the usual ho-hum "team a is playing team b today... should be good" updates.

In the end, the show will go down like Arrested Development did... a great show, but the mass audience would rather watch some crap like "the war at home."

After ESPN drops AM790, Charlie Palilo will be the only thing they have going, assuming they switch over to FoxSports which is garbage. Maybe Charlie will move over to the FM station and 790 will change formats.

Doubtful... Charlie has been with Clear Channel for a long time (minus the 4 years he was with 610). I'm not sure how much the new station will go after local talent. 790 re-acquired Charlie, re-acquired Dalati, already had Dukes, and went out and found Davies... he's the only truly "new" guy they've gotten since the station started.

That's a Rockets property...our stuff begins with Matt and/or Adam after the game recap. But it does go on for a while...
