If by hog the ball you mean make all of the play's then... HE'S ALREADY DOING THAT Rafer does absolutely NOTHING anymore. Watch him play. He brings the ball up court and passes to either Mcgrady or Artest. One of them set up a play to create for the team. Rafer spots up for a three as one of them gets him open AND he clanks it. This offense would work perfectly if the person spotting up made the open shot. With players like Yao, Artest, and Mcgrady a good PG is not necessary but we need a guy who can do SOMETHING. It would be fine if he couldn't shoot but he was good at attacking (i.e. Rondo) but that isn't the case.
Head is able to make wide open shots and he also can bring the ball to front court and hand it to someone else. Why doesn't the coach give him a try?
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Von Wafer yet. I don't know if he's a point guard but if you're going to mention Head, you have to throw Wafer out there too. He's 6'5 and can definitely shoot it, as we saw in the preseason. Why not trot him out at point guard and if he can't handle, make McGrady do it. He can't be any worse than a matt maloney type, right?
Tmac is never going to push the ball to the front court like Rafer is doing. That will slow the team down by a lot! When Tmac plays the point guard, we are looking at the shot clock starts from 18 sec, not 21. and also Tmac is very effective when he posts up. So that requires someone pass the ball to him.
We aren't even asking that much out of Rafer. Distribute the ball between the big 3, play D and make a few shots a game. He always take threes at the most inopportune time and the majority of the time if he made one more pass one of our guards would get it wide open.
give rafer a month or so you gotta get him comfortable, lets see how he does against this tough road stretch. if not i like marcus banks, the heat might be willing to trade him to get a steady veteren
Every time I get enthusiastic about the Rocket's chances of winning a championship, I remind myself who their starting point guard is. That always brings me back down to earth.
radical? Get back stawberry!!! Just joking..... I always wonder why morey with all his magic cant wave his magic wand over rafer and get a better player. Although i'm beginning to think, a better player than rafer is not a magic, its just cold hard facts. Argh, at this moment, i even take mario chalmers over rafer.

2 be Steve Novak is not with the team. Its 2 bad luther isnt getting any mins maybe one game we will see a line-up of Yao, Artest , McGrady , Barry , Head
There has never been a point in Rafer's 4 years here outside of a month last season where this has NOT been the case. I'm surprised it has taken a lot of people this long to see that.
So you want T-Mac to play point forward and you actually want Luther Head to play. YOU WANT HEAD TO START!? You masochist, hell to the no. I'm sure Head guarding the other team's PG is going to work out real well for us, along with McGrady using his energy to do things other than putting the ball in the hole. EVEN after watching Ray Allen torching our "defense", you still want to trade Battier? Really? Even with T-Mac/Artest recent history of lack of games played? The Rafer hate is getting beyond deplorable. We get it. He sucks at shooting. Did anyone notice that he took a total of 6 shots all game? He missed 5. That means 5 possessions for us that were negative because of Alston. Meanwhile, Yao and Artest combined for 23 missed shots. Artest had bad shot selection. How many negative possessions were a result of Yao's defense and inability to get a rebound? How about the negative possessions from our inability to stop Ray Allen? How about Carl Landry being completely useless? But yeah, lets focus on five possessions on offense because they were missed by the whipping boy, Rafer Alston. Good grief. Did I mention he led the team in assists?
