My wife (who is Asian) prefers "What is your ethnic background?" It is inquisitive, non-threastening, and does not give the feeling that you are intimating that someone is a "foreigner".

Romo's words could actually be construed as complimenting black players, not demeaning them. Shockey's homo remark was independent of race.

The fact that Chris Rock can openly drop N-bombs and Kerry Collins can't proves that there *is* a double standard.

Of these incedents, the only one I've heard of was Shockey's.

Giddy, I'm trying to tell you the media didn't get wind of this until there was a PUPLIC apology released by Singer through the Mets. If anybody made it public, it was the Mets. How can this not get national coverage, there's nothing else going on in baseball except for really bad MVP voting. Rm95 has it right, Singer is a public figure working for a well known company, he's no average Joe. I'm sure as we speak, tons of similar things like this Singer thing are going on. You won't hear about it because they probably weren't former 20 game winners working for a Major League Baseball team. The media isn't the reason he's getting fired and I think that's what you believe, that if they didn't pay attention to this, it would just go away. Well there haven't been any public outries for his termination, thare haven't been any asian orginizations calling for his head, no op eds, etc. Singer is losing his job because he broke from the standards of what the Mets want from their execs, and he was on company time too. Do you think he was paying for the hotel and the drinks, doubtful. He only has himself to blame if he gets fired, there's nobody pressuring the Mets.

Who does Chris Rock play for, I forget.

    Shockey's comments were still insensative.

I could replace Chris Rock's name with a multitude of black pro athletes who refer to one another in that manner.

But had nothing to do with race. Thanks.

You couldn't prove black athletes get treated differently so then you brought up a comedian.

Now you're talking about how black athletes refer to each other in private.

Since you brought up entertainers, Quentin Tarrintino.

I'm sure there is a difference between "n**ga, please" and "you f***ing n-words." It's not just who says it either, it's the meaning behind it. Maybe if you knew some black people who used it, you'd find out that the way Rock says it doesn't apply to just black people. I can remember plenty of times that my black friends in high school would say something like "that's a cool ass n**ga" and be talking about a white person, hispanic, asian, etc.

I never understood why this was an argument. Sometimes I think that people, who damn well know the difference, call it a double standard because they want to be able to say the n word without being shamed by others.

Laughable. Perhaps you missed the story at the beginning of this thread. This in and of itself proves it to be true. Just look at 4 events this year and you have your answer.

    Punished:
    Singer
    Limbaugh

    Not punished:
    Shaq
    Dusty Baker

It's really not that hard to grasp.

    DOUBLE STANDARD

What's funny is what Dusty Baker said has some truth to it. People of darker skin have more melanin, the pigment that causes darker skin color. This pigment absorbs UV light before it causes damage to things like the nerve endings, sweat glands, or blood vessels in the skin. Therefore people of darker skin actually are better suited for working in the sun in that they are better protected from the damage the sun causes.

Yes there is a double standard for people harder to replace. I'm glad you understand.

Why would I have to post the words to my routine? There are posters within earshot of this post that have been to my shows and recognize that the tenor of my ramblings are not racial. However if they were, it's a Comedy Show not a Reality Show.

BTW your double standard argument is as old as your Bronco II.

It is no secret why you refuse to post the words to that piece of your routine. At least now you recognize that you shouldn't be condemning racial stereotyping when it forms the basis of your own act.

Post the words if you aren't ashamed of them. Describe how you changed your voice to mimic an Asian man with poor English speaking ability. Describe how you generalize that all Asians are poor drivers. I doubt you will.

Oh now they're not even racist statements? Oh my god... your technique of questioning everything that is commonly accepted to build up some fantasy world for yourself is hardly amusing anymore.

There is a difference between something being "about race" and having it be "racist." Talk about disingenuous.

I'm not here for your amusement; I'm here for your education. :D

    1. It's called an impression, like the one Dean Martin did as he held Sammy Davis Jr. and made the presentation to the NAACP.

    2. Like people assume that I am a well endowed, dancing thief that loves chicken, watermelon and boning fat white women?

By the way I talk about sex with a dolphin too, you want my wife's number?

The more you challenge me on this George, the more I like it.

Then why don't you completely stop reading my posts and stop playing BBS Aunt Bea. You are by your own admission one of TJ's biggest fans on this board. Your comment the other day jabbing me to deflect attention from TJ's abuse of this board, which I ignored, was simply further proof of that.

If you read the thread which I posted you will find it completely backs up the post I made here. He lied in that thread and he admitted it. He completely wasted my time and he's doing it again here with the same disengenuous tactics.

I had no idea really that commenting on race wasn't the same as using racial slurs. Thanks so much.

Well make up your mind. In the post just above that you expressed confusion about this phenomenon. Now you claim to be familiar with it. How should we take you?
