Black people b**** and moan about race all the time. Mr. Brightside wants to b**** and moan without being called a racist. That is clearly reverse discrimination.... [/sarcasm]
I propose a fair rule...if you haven't lived it, don't bring it up. The rule goes for everyone, irrespective of whether you are Black or White, Jew or Gentile. I have always said and continue to say that the Blacks in America aren't owed jack by the white man because of slavery 200 years ago. If you were a slave, or the child of a slave, or if you DIRECTLY experienced the ill effects of slavery, then I will most definitely grant the fact that you are owed something. If you haven't, then don't expect anything that you are not owed. That's why I am against affirmative action. The Black kids of today do not need special treatment to compete with White and Asian children. Same goes with Jews. If you have lived through the Holocaust, then I definitely believe that you have every right to bring it up, because it is something that you experienced and because you yourself were directly affected. That being said, don't expect me to feel sympathy for Jews today because the Pharaoh enslaved the Hebrews. Don't give me the ever popular line about how the Jews were the most oppressed people in history and use that as justification for Jews being owed something today. If we as a society put forth the same amount of effort towards productivity that we put forth towards whining, then we would be happy people indeed.
Do you believe Sociology and Psychology are REAL Sciences? honestly. . . .are you Jewish or Black etc. I mean honestly. . . it is EASY Imo for someone who has NEVER LIVED anything but BEING THE MAJORITY to have those attitudes because. . .they don't know anything about those experiences. They attitude is made on ASSUMPTIONS etc Not unlike me saying. . . a raped woman should just GET OVER IT or the child of a raped woman . . . should have no ill effects whatsoever. . . even though his mother treated him badly because of it well .. . he was not raped so . . he should live like it didn't happen People act like various bits and peices of Racism happened and were over. they do have lingering effects. think of it like this My Grandfather could not get a job .. because he was .. uhm. TALL So he could not afford to send his kids to school. so his kids are not well educated so they get low end jobs they are poor . .. so THEIR kids' education is not as well as someone else . . that was. . uhm the grandson of a SHORT person Is the grandchild not effected by the fact that his grandfather was discriminated against? Rocket River "after stabbing one in the back . .9 inches deep. . . taking it out 6 inches is not progress .. . taking it completely out and start the healing process. . .THAT IS PROGRESS" -mangled paraphrasing of Malcolm X
You are clearly raging out of control when you start associating me with white supremacy and David Duke. Please attempt to control your anger. I really don't know why you have blown your top in this manner. If referencing isolated incidents is your idea of a sound argument, then I suggest you limit your debates to your children's Cub Scout troop. Weren't you the comedian who trashed the Asian culture for laughs?
It's funny when you don't want to live up or accept the realities of today, and instead rely on petty name calling to make your point. I know a succesful black lawyer, who grew up in the bad part of town in LA. When I asked him, what led him to such great heights, he related this story told to him by his mother when he was young: "Everybody here is asking for their slice of pie, but you know what? If you want it so badly, go make the whole damn pie yourself." Now go and make your own pie.
My previous post in this very thread (a portion of which I pasted below) should answer your question about whether I am Jewish or Black and it should also answer any questions about whether I lived the life as a member of majority and whether I know anything about the experiences of racism or not
The problem is, people don't believe that you live it! Dude I don't ask for anything but respect, but that is somehow misinterpreted as whining. There are actually white people out there that do not like me simply because I am black, and that's real! However, I don't sit around feeling sorry for myself and complaining that I can't be the best I can be because of it. Ever heard of profiling? There are certain things that I am subjected to because I drive a nice car that white men aren't. Has any white guy on here ever had his car searched during a routine traffic stop? IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME PLENTY OF TIMES, and I personally don't care because I have nothing to hide, but it still is grossly unfair. In reference to Haven’s story and my solution, I DO have to prepare whenever I go out for any type of unforeseen racial confrontation, whether it be not wearing my cap backwards, being conscious of how many “brothers” are in my car or making sure that NOBODY EVER rides with me that has dope in their possession. I would ask that we not generalize when race is an issue, sure there are some blacks that fit the bill that Brightside described, but believe me when I tell you those individuals can't even escape the wrath of black people that are tired of hearing the complaining without some sort of substance (see AggieRocket). Please don't broad stroke when it comes to race, trust me, it is more of an individual dilemma than you guys seem to give credit .
I had missed it . . .sorry However . . . things don't happen in a vacuum their are still subtle forces at work much of it is institutional I don't ask for anything but a fair shake funny thing is. . . when a non minority gets a break everyone is ssssooooo kewl with it .. . it is no big deal but . . .when a minority gets a break . . . .. it is a major issue Affirmative actions basically said TIE GOES TO THE MINORITY afterr .. . .. CENTURIES of the TIE GOING TO THE NON MINORITY hell . . .it was IT GOES TO NON MINORITY no matter way for a loooooonnnggg time Honestly as I get older I realize the importance of various things 1. Economics. . . .it is the only TRUE freedom 2. History - understanding how we got where we are 3. Sociology - the study of the dynamics and interplay of society . 4. Personal Psychology and Philosophy these IMO are the corner stone of what makes a person succeed or fail. When I look at these factors I can understand why folx are where they are. Rocket River
You and I have talked about this before, personally. You're exactly right...I can't begin to EMPATHIZE with that, because it's never been my experience. And I have too many black friends who have had these sorts of experiences. I can't imagine how that wouldn't invade your thoughts and your personality living with that sort of thing. That sucks. Don't you wish we had a do-over button? Seriously. Where none of this would be real. Where people just treated people fairly, no matter what they looked like. I realize how childish and naive that sounds...but that's how I feel. I hate that it's even an issue. As an aside...since riding with brothers might get you in trouble...I propose you take my white ass with you on every trip you make for shows...I'll just charge my hourly rate. No biggie! That would be a blast!!!
I don't know if you can get away with that on Comedy Central, but you watch and make your own determination. Better yet, leave that to someone that has a true grasp on reality. Great post RR.
I really like Aggie's posts in this thread. If most of the black people in this country are like him we would not be talking about most of the things we constantly bring up when talking about blacks. Blacks and other minority were definately wronged previously in the US history. There are still racism and other forms of discrimination toward minorities in this country today. However, minorities should really try to succeed on their own by working twice as hard as another brother posted in his post instead waiting for some kind of handout from the white people. I have seen some black students in highschool spend all of their free time practicing dribble or shoot jump shots on the basketball court, their dreams are to get to the NBA. They do not understand the chance of someone entering the NBA is about as slim as someone winning the lottery. There are no black leaders or respected family members telling him that it is much easier to go to college and become a professional, instead black youth are often encouraged down the path of sports, which is a dead end for the vast majority of them. A personal note, I was pretty good in chess during my highschool days, but my dad would beat me to a paulp if I ever had the idea of becoming a chess professional, he always says you must have at the minimum a college degree.
Unfortunately, this is not how the policy has been implemented. In practice, as the bar is set significantly lower for *selected* minorities. The level of the bar is an issue, as is the minority group selected. Why do blacks get help while Asians get hurt by the policy? Makes no sense.
I'd love to but I haven't contributed in a while and I'd feel guilty. I have a spot that's in the comedy central rotation pretty heavy, if you watch premium blend or comics mix, I'll be the black guy playing piano and doing a country song...talk about a sellout! I'll e-mail you my url.
