as a friend of mine said in another context (he was defending pinochet,) "a good economy is also a human right."
Batman Jones is much holier than thou, basso - remember, nobody cares about poor people as much as Batman Jones does!
I agree that affirmative action should be extended to anyone who comes from a disadvantaged background such as whites in Appalachia or anyone who had parents that did not have a college degree. I think a black student from a well-off background doesn't need affirmative action in academia nor the job market anymore. I'm not saying there isn't discrimination, just that affirmative action only undermines their accomplishments at this point and I don't think it gives them any more opportunity then others. If you come from a well off background and can't out compete others of the same or different race, that's not a result of racisms or past transgressions anymore. There are other areas where affirmative action is still required though, but in terms of white collared jobs and academia - I don't think it's necessary to be based on race and gender any longer....the world is a lot different place then it was when affirmative action was put into place.
This lady is no better than the Mark Williams (former Tea Party) character who made the racist blog. The Tea Party kicked out Williams and his whole group because of racist remarks. The NAACP should kick this lady out too. The NAACP generally has a very noble purpose but people like this lady tarnish their reputation.
I would like to see them denounce this whole episode by the lady. She needs to broaden her experiences and outlook.
I didn't realize that, as Republicans, my wife and I were not not allowed to care for/about and help those less fortunate than us. I guess we will need to quit writing checks and volunteering.
Your arrogance astounds me, Batman Jones. Since when does the liberals/dems own the monopoly on feelings, on caring?
All hardcore partisans need to rethink their priorities. So, I don't disagree with Batman on this one.
You're the very definition of hardcore partisan. I googled it... google agrees. Compared to [This user is on your Ignore List]? no. Compared to most other posters? Sure.
since all republicans (or anyone who may happen to agree with any stance they may take) sold their souls to the devil after stomping on the heads of baby kittens while listening to Black Sabbath songs being played backwords....duh. dood, you are so clueless. Back to the topic...i'm not really surprised by anything the NAACP does or says anymore.
So it turns out that Basso duped us again. The story she is telling in the clip is from 24 years ago. That's right 24 years ago. And she is talking about how when she was working for a non-profit and was first approached by a white farmer, she didn't want to help him. What the clip doesn't show is that she ended up working with that white farmer for 2 years to help him. 2 years! And that she went on to work with many white farmers and learned that it's not about race. 24 years ago. She's relating her life experience and the growth she had made. Basso - that is kinda low even for you. Even FoxNews is reporting the truth on this one: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/201...wing-white-farmer-story-excludes-key-context/
Sherrod said the short video clip excluded the breadth of the story about how she eventually worked with the man over a two-year period to help ward off foreclosure of his farm, and how she eventually became friends with him and his wife. "And I went on to work with many more white farmers," she said. "The story helped me realize that race is not the issue, it's about the people who have and the people who don't. When I speak to groups, I try to speak about getting beyond the issue of race." ROBERTS: Miss Sherrod, let’s make it clear though, that this happened 24 years ago. You eventually worked with this white farmer. You eventually became friends, you say, with the farmer and his wife. SHERROD: Yes. ROBERTS: So, the question I have is, when the U.S. Department of Agriculture came to you and said you have to step down, why didn’t you just say, wait a minute, you don’t know the full story. Here’s the full story, why should I step down? SHERROD: I did say that, but they, for some reason, the stuff that Fox and the Tea Party does is scaring the administration. I told them get the whole tape and look at the whole tape and look at how I tell people we have to get beyond race and start working together. ROBERTS: Many people at home might be thinking if you’re recounting an old story, why did you succumb to pressure to step down, why didn’t you fight this? SHERROD: If I tried to fight it and didn’t have any support from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, what would I do? http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2010/07/breitbarts-editing.html#more This user is on your Ignore List for a reason.
