I have a question for you. What makes a black person an American? Have you ever thought about that? Or do you just take this as a given. Is it because they live in America? Is it because they earned it do to slavery? And, who has made them American, and at what point did they become American, and by what means or what event moved them from slaves to Americans? Can you answer any of those questions?
Segregation was legally mandated, there was no ambiguity or room for speculation based on the perceived character or personalities of individual whites. And blacks in the South were largely denied graduate-level education. And I don't think I'd ever need Ike or LBJ to call up federal troops so I can get a decent table at Ruggles or Brennan's.
My rant is about waiters just wanting the money. They would wait on Hitler if they knew he tipped good. If Jesus didn't tip, waiters wouldn't want to wait on him either. He would have to perform a miracle just to get a timely glass of wine.
They live here, obey the laws and pay taxes. And if you ask them whether or not they're American, they nod, or say "yes." What makes a turtle a reptile?
Slavery... sure, it's was a big part of the history, still leaves a legacy in the culture today, just like colonialism is a part of the psyche in many other countries. It's there. Race is a part of how Americans perceive the world. It sucks... But how does playing the race card nowadays do anyone any good? Kept OJ out of prison and that's about all... and that's mostly because he was rich.
You really didn't answer my question. At the heart of what I am trying to say, has to do with how black people choose to define who they are. And it isn't by America, I can assure you on that. Why would a race of people have any love for a country that enslaved them? Any race? Not just black people. So by using the "race card" so to speak, it actually shows in a very real way, that black people have not accepted America and all that it stands for, without having to leave the country or burn the place to the ground. Have I made you think? I have more, but the board is not ready for it. I have already said too much as it is.
PLEASE STOP, YOU HAVE TRANSFORMED MY WORLDVIEW WITH THE DEPTH OF YOUR INSIGHT AND THAT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO CONTINUE LOVING JESUS!
They can always leave. Plenty people leave the country they were born into in search of a better place.
That's easy to say now, but think about this. After the slaves were freed, they had a hard time going north, let alone to africa. And by that time 200 years or more, africa was less known to them than america was. And this is the problem, because black people simply stayed in america, a place that they hated. Thus, black people were and are a people without a real country to call their own.
Who says anything about Africa? Canada is right next door, there's always Mexico, Dominican Republic, East Asia, Middle East... plenty of good spots in this world. But it's not really abou the place... there are problems out in this world, but what matters is what's in your head. Plenty of people who were born here have no connection with where their ancestors came from. No "country to call their own."
When I grew up, instead of wanting to be a fireman or a doctor, I dreamed of serving food to people and seeing that fat and happy smile on their faces when they're finished. It wasn't about the money or working below min. wage. And healthcare...I'm going to be healthy forever!
I'm not black, but I think I can speak for 90+% of the black Americans that I know and say that you don't speak for them. Most of them love this country. Yeah, some of them that have even been discriminated against. It's a personal thing with them, not institutional. Great username, though.
Okay, that's just silly. Obviously you have no idea about culture. A lot of people, other than black people, who move to America for a better life find it a culture shock once they are here. They only endure America, because of the money. And they still have their fond memories of their country and go back often. Black people had much more to overcome. Because of slavery, a lot of the freed slaves hired themselves back to their taskmaster. Why? Ask yourself that.
That is r****ded. You can look at a resume or application and find out an applicant's educational background. Patrons at a restaurant don't hand you a paper detailing their tipping history when they walk in.
