In the defensive end, actually Size matters a lot.....
I don't think CV is a worse defender than Landry...
Think about our game...usually Yao gets those stupid fouls...
    what is Landry doing?
Scola at least get some charges.

It was the Celtics bench that I am mostly referring to. Having Landry and Hayes against Perkins, Big Baby, Powe

You know, when I look back at the starting lineup of Yao, TMac, Battier, Rafer, and Hayes I stand amazed. That may go down in history as the most unathletic and offensively challenged lineup in NBA history.

The Rockets have been looking for a PF to shoot 3's, that's why I think this deal will get done.

What about when Yao sits? Yao will need to pace himself if he wants to be effective in the playoffs. When Yao is on the bench our front court options are limited to a combination of Luis Scola, Carl Landry and Chuck Hayes. All measuring shorter than 6'10. Plus youre not doing justice to Boston's length. I think anyone will agree that Rondo plays much bigger than Rafer because of the difference in speed, athleticism, and length. The same could be said about Pierce and Kevin Garnett. Adding CV, Deke and Mihm will help us greatly in this regard.

What about reading the rest of the post next time?

The Celtics starting 5 doesn't come close to measuring up to ours.

    Rondo - 6'1
    Allen - 6'5
    Pierce - 6'7
    Perkins - 6'10
    Garnett - 6'11

    Alston - 6'2
    McGrady - 6'8
    Batter - 6'8
Scola - 6'10 (his 6'9 listing is w/out shoes, most NBA players' listed heights are w/ shoes)
    Yao - 7'6

Sure, they had old PJ Brown coming off the bench last season and he was key for them in some playoff games but other than that they had undersized bigs like Big Baby and Leon Powe. If that's all it takes, we can find a veteran backup like Brown. And it's not like they are struggling this season without PJ. They had the best 29 game start in NBA history.

The problem isn't just length, although that is something we should address. Allen is a far better shooter than anybody on the Rockets other than Barry, who is an aging reserve. Pierce is far more durable than McGrady and is fearless going to the basket. He's among the league leaders in FTA year in and year out. Garnett and Perkins are far more athletic than Yao and Scola and Garnett is one of the best frontcourt defensive players in the league. I know Perkins is no special athlete, it's just that Yao and Scola are so extremely unathletic that everybody looks like a good athlete compared to them.

I think the Rockets problem is they have two offensive scrubs in their starting 5 (Alston, Battier) and incredibly low athleticism among that group. Height and length is not a problem with our starters. The problem with the starters is a lack of athleticism and two offensive zeros. Conversely, athleticism is not a problem with our reserves while length is, specifically with our frontcourt reserves. That could be fixed with one move like the one the Celtics made last season to get PJ.

Landry had zero dunks last night. He had at least one layup that would have been a monster dunk last year. Ironically, that was the 'above the rim' play.

Sell Landry now while he still has value.

    Brooksball,

You're comparing us to the best team in basketball...why?. Getting more length is a good way to upgrade without really upgrading talent level.

Still i'm not for this deal because Charlie V plays small and Landry plays big. The only reasoning i can see for this deal is that Charlie V is a good outside shooter. (Yes, i know his percentage is low but it would probably go up if he had more open shots like the ones he would get playing with our big 3.)

    pmac,

Read the post I was originally responding to on the previous page.

BTW, I forgot to add that another weakness with our starting 5 is that McGrady is a broken down puzzy.

Arguing height as a defensive virtue for which a Villanueva trade would be favorable is akin to touting Shane Battier's listed 6'8 as some sort of offensive strength/advantage.

It's not relevant if the player doesn't use it.

So I was reading on brewhoop about the trade, they said that Landy and Morey have bumped heads these last few months in the office.....Elson might be in the deal instead of Mihm....

I wouldn't want to bump heads with Landry. :D

Jokes aside, how the heck would brewhoop know what's going on between Landry and Morey? They're probably referring to the issues before Landry's deal got done.

What can they possibly bump heads about?

I think this is a fair trade. Size means alot against contenders. This also creates more post space without Landry clogging the paint and creates playing time for Wafer who i think is going to be a suprise. Brooks is a good attacker now that we need more space to increase his PG skills for the 2nd unit and with him coming along C.V is a better fit in flexability and legnth to mesh with the 2nd unit better.

any mention of what "bumping heads" was about? I can't see what they would disagree on now that Landry is already re-signed...Morey doesn't deal much with on court stuff...

    I like it!

Carl and Scola are similar players but the only big difference is Carl dunks ever now and then. Scola does everything Carl does and more, besides jump higher. If we can get Mihm for Head too, it'll be a nice bonus. Our team won't have to worry about height being a factor anymore with two 7footers and maybe even 3 if we sign Deke, not including YAO.

That's a damn tall backcourt. Crossing my fingers and hoping it's happens! :D

Not sure, but im searching all over the web to try and find updates to this. On the Chron website, Feign said he isnt sure if this deal will happen because the Rockets are big on Landry.

I would look to trade Alston and/or Battier before Landry.

CV has played for 2 horrible franchises and in terrible locations. Maybe this is somewhat of a reason why he has been accused of not having any heart, perhaps if he were to be with a contender , it might change things somewhat
