You wanna talk race and politics? The reaction of Dubya, Condi, and Cheney Vader to Hurricane Katrina pretty much killed the debate on the Republican side of the aisle.
I dunno, I grew up in the south, but I've lived in the rural midwest for the last four years. Pretty Republican from top to bottom, very anti-government...until the farm aid checks or ethanol subsidies come in. They've got Goldwater's syndrome in that they're racially tolerant but, because of their demographics, too far removed from any racial strife to understand what MLK, Jesse Jackson or the NAACP were all talking about. Incidentally, though, if I never had to look for another job I could probably live here forever. Not a bad place to raise kids.
