I'd have to disagree with that. Doesn't seem like it's been blown at all. :)

That ain't gonna happen. This whole thing is a non-issue.

"I was getting fined for not showing up, but now they fine me when I do,'' Clemens said of the Kangaroo Court in the Houston clubhouse. "I think I'm probably going to wind up underwriting the whole thing.''

Media guys hold grudges. They're not always completely objective. When you read a particular reporter for a while, you get a good take on who they 'like' vs who they 'don't like.' I think there are a lot more who 'don't like' Bonds. (And I'm sure his treatment of them is a big factor).

Not so sure they never see the good guy side. Just more apt to report the bad. My impression is that they'd be quicker to report a negative about Bonds, then about Sosa, Griffey, A-Rod, etc.

I don't really see it as a big deal...and Bonds does seem to say and do a lot of assclown things...just not convinced he's as bad as he's portrayed.

I agree with that. However, do you think it'd be a non-issue if it were Bonds (with regards to the media, not your opinion)?

Bonds has made his own bed in regards to the media, going back to his days in Pitt. He is by all accounts quite gracious when interacting with fans, but sportswriters don't interview fans, they're in the clubhouse talking to Barry & his teammates. Barry is an ass to the writers, and many of his teammates have had less than nice things to say, so I'm not surprised that he's portrayed in a negative light. It ain't a black/white thing. Barry has often been openly hostile to the writers, of course that affects the angle on their stories. And I'm not sure I can blame 'em. When a guy says "You [expletive] guys are going to write what you want anyway, why should I [expletive] talk to you?", what does he expect the next day's sports page to read like?

The chip on Barry's shoulder has reached boulder-sized proportions in the past 3 or 4 years.

Kangaroo Courts are set up by the players in the clubhouse. Someone is the "judge" (on the 'Stros it's Ivy League Ausmus) and players bring certain situations to the attention of the court - baserunning mistakes, boneheaded plays, wearing ugly clothes, being seen with ugly women, general stupidity, etc... - and the judge administers fines, usually a few hundred dollars. At the end of the year the money collected is sprung on dinner & lots of booze.

    It's just a little in-house joke.

I really don't get why the press bothers to talk to him at all. OK I know why, they are baiting him for a sound clip or headline and he always comes through. But seriously, why waste our time. We all know what he is going to do/say by now. Personally I could give a flying **** what his opinion is on anything other than maybe how well he feels about soemthing to do with the game. Even then he usually feels he was cheated somehow. I mean in his last hitless streak he said that part of the problem was fatigue due to all the walks he takes (16 of the 31 at bats during the hitless streak were walks). WTF:confused: It's sad and funny at the same time when you think about it. With the way he performs on the field he could be the MJ of Baseball and bring it back into the mainstream. His attitude towards the media just makes him poison for advertisers. What was the last non baseball ad you Bonds in. I think he did a KFC ad but he wasn't even the only guy in that. I think that Giambi or Sosa was in it to.

buck.. yeah I've heard about those before it just struck me as odd when he said he was fined before for not showing up.. because he doesn't strike me as someone who would not show up when he was supposed to.. maybe he meant if he hadnt have shown up or I read it wrong

Because he's not a pitcher and is expected to play more than once every 5 days.

I guess we'll never find out if this is a racial issue until the next great black hall of fame caliber pitcher is in the twilight of his career and tries to do it.

Clemens has said he will stick with the team more now that the summer is here and his kids will be out of school (high school baseball games).

Bond's statements are an extreme example of something that all minorities, especially blacks deal with.

The history of racism means that minorities are never sure that when they see that someone is treated differently whether racism is a factor. Its something that's always there and there are some who put more weight on it than others.

That doesn't excuse not working as hard as you can to try to achieve success but many minorities suspect that latent racism means that whites will always be given advantages.

This isn't fair to both whites and minorities but its hard to forget the history of racism.

My mother always told me that you live in their country so you have to work even extra hard just to be equal. I am proud to be asian and we have a reputation as hard working people. I have friends who drive nice cars and live in huge houses, but they paid a price for it by work hard every day of thier lives. They don't complain that the white man is keeping them down because every one has a chance in america. That's all you can ask for. Nothing is given you have to earn it.

WTF are you talking about and what does it have to do with Bonds' statements? Did you start this thread just to complain about black people or Barry Bonds.

Asianboy, Your position here is as devisive as Bonds original statement. Nothing like fighting fire w/ fire.

Barry Bonds doesn't represent anybody but himself. Keep it at that.
