I have to tell you, I am pretty split on this but I do know one thing and that is that racism sucks. There isnt anything good about it and I think that most people agree with that. Now I have two ways of thinking. First off, everyone is different. Whether it is two white people or two black people, those people are different. If you are identical twins, you are still different in some way. If indentical twins are different then how are two people from different races any more different? Is there some degree of different that you magically cross to make you more different? My second way of thinking is that the races are different. Of course they are and to refute that they are not is ridiculous. Now I also believe that stereotypes are there for a reason. They dont just appear out of nowhere. They are stereotypes because obviously a lot of people are that way. I'm white. I like "white people" things. I like to wear preppy clothes. I like to watch baseball (pulled from another thread) and I suck at basketball. I like hunting and biscuits with gravy and all kinds of "white people" crap. I'm sure I talk like "white people". WHO CARES! If you want to make fun of the "white people" things that I do then go ahead. I'm sure I will be laughing with you because its funny. That doesnt mean that people from other races cant like that crap too. You know what else? I like fried chicken, watermelon and basketball. Doesnt make me black. I like egg rolls and I am awesome at ping pong. Doesnt make me asian. I could go on and on with this and hopefully someone will understand my point. Someone said that each race has their own stregnths and weaknesses. I totally agree with that but I also think that not everyone fits within these stereotypes. Now you are probably wondering how this all ties in with this thread. At this point I am kind of wondering that also. I know what I am trying to say but it is hard to put it into words. I think affirmitive action sucks. I think this "rule" that owners have to interview minority (read black) coaches is ridiculous. I think the NFL developing minority coaches is great but dont force owners to interview people just for the sake of interviewing someone. It is more of a slap in the face than anything. Its treating these men like children. I believe that they want to do the pc thing but are going about it wrong. Was there a better person than Bill Parcells in Dallas? Was there a better person than Steve Mariuchi in Detroit? I dont think that there was. If I was an owner, I would want the best coach possible no matter what the guys race is and that is what I would want in a business environment also. If I am putting together a project for a company, I want whoever will make me the most successful. I'm not saying that everyone in the world is like that but I think that more people are starting to use that philosophy also. Another problem I have is that this rule is geared for black coaches. If the NFL wanted diversity, why are they not trying to recruit other races other than just black coaches? There are asian players. Shouldnt we have at least one asian coach? I'm sure there are some latino players, why not have at least one latino coach? Anyway, I rambled on long enough and I dont think I was able to say everything I wanted to but I think I got the bulk of it. Hopefully it makes a little bit of sense.
With all this talk about race and stuff...can we at least agree on SOMETHING...I think all three of these are HOT . White, Black, Asian...whatever .
Oh yeah, and before someone calls me a racist...hispanic as well. (although I still think Penelope's lips look a little bit like she permanently has Herpes... )
I was looking at some old threads recently and was shocked to find that you've actually gotten worse. I didn't think it was possible.
