Adelman has shown last year he will give the rooks minutes if and when they deserve it. Landry didn't get time right off the bat, he had to earn the spot and once he had a hold of it his play justified keeping him in the rotation. Our team is too deep to be giving guys time on the court for the hell of it, they're gonna have to earn it n practice, like Brooks and Scolandry did last year. If Dorsey and Wafer show dedication there and consistently beat the guys ahead of them in rotation, Adelman has shown he will play them.
Isn't this not news? Everyone here should know by now Adelman is really loyal to his players, especially his starters. Even the announcers (not sure if it's the Rockets' broadcast or national TV's who say it) talk about how Adelman will always go with his starting 5 when in doubt. He rarely leaves second units in for long, yesterday was a rare occasion. At least in Sacramento, that's how it was. It seems the same way here in Houston. Even if the second unit is on fire, he'll put in the starters to close the game.
Thanks for the notice, because I never knew that. To the others who talk about giving rookies a try, I'm not talking about that. It's about how players play during the game and the difference between a Wafer / Landry / Scola vs. a Barry / T-mac / Artest. When one of the first group either doesn't shoot well, doesn't defend well or causes TOs they're benched. Whenever some1 from the 2nd group is hurting the team, see the former sentence for reasons, they stay on the court. I understand RA trusts his starters more but especially a guy like Barry, who hasn't done anything positive the last two games, shouldn't be on the court as long when he's playing the way he's playing now. Last night, RA did a good job of putting in the guys that were hot and took out the ones that were not, except for Barry, and I completely understand he wanted the starters to finish the game. Hopefully Barry will get his shooting touch back and RA makes good decisions like last night to secure the victory.
well welcome to the real world, the famous and the celebrity are treated different, but with regards to Scola's limited playing time yesterday, it is due to the wizards being a taller more athletic team and Scola like Yao and Hayes always struggle with those type of teams.
first of all i give clyde's "adelman is loyal to a fault" statement about as much deference as i give his perennial statements about how rafer is a dark horse all-star candidate. i know clyde played for adelman but adelman doesn't appear any more set on playing starters than any other coach in the league. he clearly lets rookies play themselves into minutes. the only reason wafer is getting time is because adelman saw something he liked in practice and decided wafer earned game time. that to me speaks alot to adelman's willingness to play unproven players. remember, these guys haven't done anything in the nba worth noting. there's a difference between not giving guys a chance and what adelman is doing. just because he's making them prove themselves before getting minutes doesn't mean he isn't giving them a chance.
i get the whole "earning time" in practice and i agree he should just hand out minutes to let guys have chance, but he doesn't even play them in blowouts. I get not giving him opportunities every game, but not even one legit opportunity is too much. In practice you're playing against the same guys over and over, it doesn't tell you everything. Look at Gerald Green, the opposite is happening with him, he's been starting for a few games now, probably because he's shown in practice he can do well, but in games he flakes out. He starts, but he only ends up playing like 10 mins because he doesn't play well. That's a prime example of how practice shouldn't be the only deciding factor. Opponents and emotions are very different in game situations. I do think Hayes, landry, and scola have proven themselves enough to play more than Dorsey, i just don't get why the guy can't get ONE legit chance. You never know what may happen, There's young guys out there who seemed like they weren't ready and one chance is all it took for their confidence to shoot up and for them to play better. Look at Hayes, he got his chance because the team didn't have a choice but to throw him out there after so many injuries.
common, Dorsey is going to get his opportunities in some blowouts. there haven't been any of them except for the lakers game until now and it's absurd to throw him in there and hope he will save the game or do better than the proven guys (scola, landry, hayes).
Struggling vet = Prospering Wafer & Head might be how Adelman sees it. Even if Yao and McGrady are clanking it, the team will play at the same level of if Head and Wafer are playing well. With a chance for the stars to bust out their funk (like the Wizards game) The concern is giving vets too many minutes though. I'm sure Adelman means well but I guess its just tough to leave good players off the floor.
The coaches know what Dorsey is doing in practice. Once he gets more used to it,he will get minutes. Most coaches are reluctant to give rookies minutes right away. It took time for Scola to replace Hayes as a starter.Landry played only 58 games, possibly partly because of his injured knee history.I do agree with you opponents are different in every game.Maybe he might be able to bring some energy for a few minutes right now,but probably not more than that.
Luther sitting on the bench yawning. RA is a great coach Rick told Scola that he'll be on the bench until he learn to throw down thunderous dunks like Landry not those weak layups.
Just watch this Magic game and you can see what I mean, Barry has nothing so far but miss shots, get scored on and making bad decisions.
