I know Seatle got a 2nd round pick and a more than 9 mil TE from the S&T with Orlando. However Lewis' first season salary is about 16 mil so how come there is the 6-7 mil gap? I looked but I didn't see other Orlando players mentioned in the trade. Can someone please help?
It's simply stunning. As if nothing else would, this certainly proves what a weak free agent crop we have this off-season. Orlando management, once again, shafted themselves to the hilt. It'll come back to haunt them.
seems like the rockets could court all they want, it wasnt going to happen.. like the pimply faced nerdy kid courting the hot, popular cheerleader
i guess since lewis re-signs with the sonics for max money and is then traded to orlando he qualifies as a base year compensation player, which means his salary counts only 50 % within the trade scenario.
i know i will be booing rashard lewis when hes in town..i know you guys are gonna say oh ur classless who cares its fun..just like utah got booed
Orlando courted the hardest. The gave him 100 million good reasons to play for Orlando. I could buy my one jerseys for that much. Crap I would buy everyone at the toyota center a jersey for that much.
omfg....now the magic are stuck at being a 1st round exist evry year for the next couple of seasons. oh well...dwight howard will be the next KG and TMAC.....a great player who barely gets out of the first round !!
Many of you guys do realize, RL would probally be a bench warmer or out of this league if Houston drafted him. He's lucky Seattle drafted him and gave him the opportunity to make a name for himself. If Houston didn't pass on him, I don't think he would've had the work ethic/desire/passion/motivation to be where he is today. It's easy to say we should've drafted him, but IF we did, would he be the same player as he is today? That's something we'll never know.
We could have had Lewis and Mobley in the same draft just like the Texans could have had Vince and Ryans. Morans.
Thanks GermanRoxFan and xiki for answering my question. I have to look up more on the "base year player rule" to see if I can understand it better. EDIT: Found answers in NBA Salary Cap FAQ
I am really surprised he got this kind of money...Jeff said he would command 15 mil per year- and I was frankly surprised at this much money... Good for you Rashard!
That is a really good point. He was forced to prove himself as a 2nd round pick- moving away from home. Congrats to Rashard for his determination to succeed.
