hip hop has lasted alot longer than disco. people have been predicting it to be a fad to go away for about 15 years now. hip hop has now been around for almost 30 years.
Soul music is dead. The funk of the '70s is dead. Rock is almost dead. Disco is dead. Nobody does the Jitterbug anymore. Things change. Nothing last forever.
nothing lasts forever, but until something comes along to replace hip hop, it won't go away. I just don't see anything else that kids are listening to that will replace it anytime soon.
r kelly IS soul music i would argue that things evolve... chuck berry, buddy holly, little richard to the beatles, the stones, the who, velvet underground to floyd, led zep, aerosmith to ramones, sex pistols, the clash to motley crue, iron maiden to rem, sonic youth, u2 to guns n' roses, janes addiction, living colour to smashing pumpkins, nirvana, pearl jam to radiohead, ect, ect...
I am no conservative, but I do find it offensive that someone wouldn't sing the national anthem in a more somber tone. That said, I would suggest we get rid of this ritual. People come to watch the ballgame, nothing more. It tends to trivialize the diginity of the national anthem when you have those *artists* on stage trying to improvise the song to absurdity. By the way, if you really feel the only to get patriotic is to sing the national anthem, sing it and play it as many times as you want in your own home.
I don't listen to much hip hop anymore, but my opinion doesn't count. its the kids in college and h.s. who decide what's popular in music.
That's what I was going to say. I think rap is already infusing itself with pop music and its becoming beat driven electronica. I'm sure there will be "roots" rap, but even roots reggae became dancehall.
i perfer the anthem to be sung the orignal way, NOT the damn remixes or renditions these singers make. Marvin Gaye's version is the only exception. God i used to hate it when they have Boyz to Men sing it.
