"He came over the top of a stingray that was buried in the sand, and the barb came up and hit him in the chest," said Stainton. Could of happened to anyone, but I have never heard of such of thing.
A month or so. I read somewhere that he instructed his cameramen to always film him reguardless of the situation. That if he really needed assistance, that at least one guy had to film the event while the others helped. He stated that he if he were to die from his work, that he didn't want it hidden from the world. Or something like that.... looked for the link, but couldn't find it.
I stepped on a stingray in Galveston once, I felt the swoosh of the tail wiz past my calf -- very scary. You can't pull those barbs out once they are in you ~ I can't even imagine a direct shot to heart.
R.I.P steve Heres his espn commerical http://www.albertbanks.com/2006/04/03/albert-the-alligator-espn-commercial/
His wikipedia page has been updated by someone. Umm: Shortly after 11:00am local time on 4 September 2006, Irwin was fatally raped in the chest by a stingray barb while jacking off Queensland's Great Barrier Reef. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Irwin
I'll just put what me and moes put as topic in chat. Rock On Crocman....... Rest In Peace + FFB, I know you love shocking people, but come on man....if everyone in this world were as passionate about what they did as he was, it would be a far better place we live in. remember what momma said...if you cant say something nice, dont say anything at all.
Well, ladies and gentlemen.. All hope that immortality could ever be possible for otherwise mere mortal men, has been shattered, and utterly destroyed! Dick Clark suffers a stroke, now The Croc hunter is dead. We are doomed! Weak, fragile creatures that can be offed by the most unexpected freakish small things! DOOOOOOOOOM!!
Man, that sucks. That dude rocked the animal world! Of all the ways to go out, this is just the craziest way to go out especially when this guy is wrestling crocodiles and wrangling snakes on a daily basis. It's not fair that he had to go like this. He will be missed.
As does mine, he was an incredible personality. My friends and I would walk around when we were teenagers saying "cricky, look at that magificent creature, she wants to BITE MY LEG OFF". Man, he was fun.
