RIP. Terrible terrible tragedy. Love him or hate him, you can't deny he was doing some good in this world. Saving endangered species and providing entertainment. RIP
He had a great cause spreading his love of animals to other people. It didn't look like he lived in fear. RIP
Rip to a great man and my thoughts are with his wife and 2 young kids. Steve did so many amazing things for all Australians and will be forevered remembered Sad day to be Australian.
You know, it's so shocking because he had this aura of invincibility around him. And of all the dangerous animals he could have fallen victim to, it was a sting ray that finally killed him.
Here's a pic of a stingray barb pulled from the neck of a seaturtle. If it caught an artery or vein he probably bled to death.. Sucks..
Oh man I am devastated! I loved Steve Irwin. I loved his passion and enthusiasm for his work. Yeah he went overboard at times, but he loved conservation and he truly believed in his message and it showed. Steve left a lasting legacy in the world of conservation and bringing the message of it home to countless people. I had the good fortune of meeting him once and he was as nice and regular of a bloke as you could ask for. He was an huge inspiration to me personally and the world will sorely miss him. I keep thinking that this is just some sort of joke, but obviously tis not . My thoughts go out to his family and friends. Rest In Peace Stevo.

A ****ing sting ray...wtf...I've been around sting rays multiple times before...i just can't believe that happened.
RIP + On the news in Australia, an expert from Sydney aquarium just said that on a decent size sting ray, the barb can be about 25cm. Stabbed so close to his heart, he probably had a massive heart attack from the venom (If his heart wasnt hit to start with). This is very sad news.
Wow...this is really sad to hear. As others have said, his shows were very entertaining and sent great messages (I liked the one about his zoo, or whatever it was, the best). It kind of sucks since most of those shows included footage of him, his friends, and his family, so it almost felt like you knew him...even though you didn't (or I didn't anyway). RIP Steve
I just got home and saw this immediately. That's horrible. What a crazy way to go, too. He seemed like a good guy. A little cooky, but good. RIP+
That's actually the last memory I have of him. I'm gonna miss that guy more than most famous people that pass away, that's for sure.
So sad. I really liked him. Thanks for posting that picture DonnyMost. I was having a hard time understanding how a stingray barb could possibly kill someone. But after seeing what they look like I can see how it can happen now.
Man I guess you never know how you end up going. The article said that he died pretty much instantly, so at least he didn't suffer. I'm a big watcher of nature shows and he was one of my favorites. My prayers go out to his family.
