Rodney King wasn't a hero nor was he a villian. He was a deeply flawed man but who seemed like in his heart he wanted to do right but drugs and alcohol held him back. In many ways he was an everyman typical of poorer inner city minority America. He just happened to be the one that was in that particular situation that crystallized the frustration of many Americans. Its not just black women but there are many black men who can't either. I forgot his name but one of the former US Olympic swimmers is black and for the last few years has been running a program to teach black inner city youths how to swim.
