This is spot on accurate. Most basketball fans do not realize how valuable Chuck Hayes was to this team, on both ends. Hayes was the second best offensive facilitator behind Lowry. He was good at it. We have no bigs that can pass the ball like Chuck could. Scola is the closest but his passes are best coming from the low post, back to the basket play, not from facing up. And Hill and Dally can barely catch and hold the ball most of the time much less throw passes from the high post. I won't even discuss Thabeet. Lowry's usage is bloated right now because we are such an incomplete team. However, he is still playing a very efficient game, something Brooks never could master. The only thing Patterson is doing at this stage is shooting the jump shot. The only reason you guys think he is starting to come around is he hit a few of those shots last night and he has been missing everything he threw up before last night's game. In my opinion, Patterson is the best candidate of our bigs to give us some good high post triple threat play, being able to face up, shoot the J, throw the pass, or drive to the rim with it. If we are going to develop guys this season, we have to get him in this position and get him some experience operating in it.
ESPECIALLY considering that we had no pre-season with a new coach who started planning on running his O + D through a Gasol/Nene frontcourt.... First 10 games in our schedule are rough - I'm waiting till the end of January to see if the sky is falling or not.
If we consider Michael Redd as being a great shooter, and just go off Martin's regular FG and 3point %s, Martin's and Redd's career shooting percentages are dead even. It doesnt look good coming out of his hands, but it goes in there the same rate as Jason Terry. If its about being EXACT of what HISTORICALLY defines a truly GREAT shooter, I'd put Martin in the "very good" shooter range.
