Jackson seems like Ron Artest light, he's not completely insane but something's not right with that dude. Avoid him unless we get him for free.
I don't doubt that he takes dumb shots. But the guy has hit huge shots on the biggest of stages. In the 2003 finals, the Spurs were basically wilting, and only Kerr, Claxton, and Jackson stepped up from the outside. They would only have 2 titles without him.
None of those players catch my eye, personally. O'Neal has always been a touch overhyped and has always been a notch below the truly elite PFs in the game. Tinsley's half PG, half combo guard, and I haven't seen him really run the team exceptionally well. Seems somewhat inconsistent and he can't blame it on youth anymore. Steph Jax is a headcase. He can tear things up, but he's a Ricky Davis-type gamble (which isn't hopeless, as we saw with his stint in Boston). I'd rather see if we can't be the third team party on an Indy trade. Put a gun to my head, and I'd say make a move for Jax. O'Neal's pricetag will be far too high and Tinsley's not that fantastic a catch. Jax would serve a needed role if we can keep a leash on him. Dr. Evil: I like to see players who are... fighters. [pause] Dr. Evil: By "fighter," of course, I refer to propensity to engage in fisticuffs and relentless spirit... Two meanings... fighter... it's a homonym... Forget it.
We won't be able to get this guy, because we're trading all of our parts for KG, according to Bucher.
Later on in an ESPN chat he retracted that KG for Tmac rumor. He said it was just a rumor that turned out to be untrue.
i would take stephen jackson just for the chance that he might pull out an uzi during the middle of the game and get that crazy look on his face like he had during the artest fight in detroit.
Jho and second round pick for S.Jax. if we can pull that off on draft night we could go 2 different directions after the draft. 1. draft sheldon williams to replace jho at the 4. then use some MLE to bring in vspan and the rest on a SF like tim thomas, rasule butler, jumaine jones, matt harpring. yao-deke williams-stro-hayes tmac-MLE- bowen jax-head alston-vspan 2. draft carney to backup at the 3. use the MLE on a pf. either way we are much improved.
Per Zoork34: " i would take stephen jackson just for the chance that he might pull out an uzi during the middle of the game and get that crazy look on his face like he had during the artest fight in detroit." This is what I like about this forum-thoughtful reflective analysis-akin to "All Things Considered" on National Public Radio. Excellent post.... __________________
Never fails that someone suggests JHo in a deal for a player and everybody knows we can't even get a box of used tampons for him...we have a better chance of the Pacers accepting Clutch the Bear for SJax then JHo and a 2nd rounder.
Although SJax is slightly better than Miles and a better fit for our team, he doesn't belong here either. He plays really dumb, doesn't have defense, and has a bad history. If he had brushes with popovich he certainly won't like playing for JVG. He doesn't shoot the three well enough for us to overlook his problems. But make no mistake, he's not the problem with the pacers and his contract is better than Miles'. He's already proven he can be a significant part of a very good team. It's not just about attitude, it's about being able to play with your teammates and play well. That's why a guy like AI can win the MVP.
I want credit for digging that out of Bucher, by the way. I finally got a question answered on one of their chats, and that was the one. I think he wrote something like, "For the record, I didn't report that, I was just saying how crazy the rumor mill was getting and that was one of the things I heard....blah blah blah." Uh, if you report it without prefacing or following with, "Now, this is complete BS," then you ARE reporting it. Anyway, if Golden State really wants Jermaine O'Neal (grain of salt here: ESPN also reported this one, but it has more merit than TMac for KG), I wouldn't be surprised to see Troy Murphy and Mike Dunleavy go to Indiana for Jermaine. Ever since Larry Bird took over there, the complexion of the team has become more....uh, vanilla? (Although such a scenario might see Peja walk.)
You insult a box of used tampons by comparing it to Juwan. The tampon was actually useful at some point in its history.
Stephen Jackson is a black hole and makes Cuttino Mobley look like Magic when driving to the basket. He's one of those guys that pisses you off with his bonehead playing then hits a few shots and makes you wonder. With our system revolving around Yao and T-Mac, we need more spot up shooters that move well without the ball and have a quick release. I think with Yao dominating the low block, having J O'neal would be redundant as he would be taking post ups away from Yao whose fg% down there is much better and is a better passer out of the post. Tinsley is a playmaker that can't shoot, and though he's a better playmaker than Alston, his shot is much worse which we can't afford. Stojakavic is going to be too expensive for our blood, so there is really not much on that roster that we could use. The best component would have been an Artest type defensive stopper/rebounder. I really like our team and think we need just a few pieces and some depth. I think Swift will improve and Howard's mid-range jumper is underrated and opens up the post for Yao well. Yao Mutombo Howard Swift McGrady Bogans Roy Head McGrady Alston Spanoulis I think if we are able to draft Roy (a reach, I know!) and maybe sign a Spanoulis and another free agent with the MLE we can have a great team as long as we're healthy.
