Ouch. The poll speaks for itself. And it's spot on. Obama is insanely awful at being president. And poll respondents agree.

July 2, 2014 - Obama Is First As Worst President Since WWII, Quinnipiac University National Poll Finds; More Voters Say Romney Would Have Been Better

President Barack Obama is the worst president since World War II, 33 percent of American voters say in a Quinnipiac University National Poll released today. Another 28 percent pick President George W. Bush.

Ronald Reagan is the best president since WWII, 35 percent of voters say, with 18 percent for Bill Clinton, 15 percent for John F. Kennedy and 8 percent for Obama, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. Among Democrats, 34 percent say Clinton is the best president, with 18 percent each for Obama and Kennedy.

Obama has been a better president than George W. Bush, 39 percent of voters say, while 40 percent say he is worse. Men say 43 - 36 percent that Obama is worse than Bush while women say 42 - 38 percent he is better. Obama is worse, Republicans say 79 - 7 percent and independent voters say 41 - 31 percent. Democrats say 78 - 4 percent that he is better.

Voters say by a narrow 37 - 34 percent that Obama is better for the economy than Bush.

America would be better off if Republican Mitt Romney had won the 2012 presidential election, 45 percent of voters say, while 38 percent say the country would be worse off.

Missing Mitt are Republicans 84 - 5 percent and independent voters 47 - 33 percent, while Democrats say 74 - 10 percent that the U.S. would be worse off with Romney.

"Over the span of 69 years of American history and 12 presidencies, President Barack Obama finds himself with President George W. Bush at the bottom of the popularity barrel," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

"Would Mitt have been a better fit? More voters in hindsight say yes."

American voters say 54 - 44 percent that the Obama Administration is not competent running the government. The president is paying attention to what his administration is doing, 47 percent say, while 48 percent say he does not pay enough attention.

President Obama's job approval rating, inching up since a negative 38 - 57 percent in December, 2013, his all-time low, is stalled at a negative 40 - 53 percent. This compares to the president's negative 42 - 50 percent job approval in an April 2 national survey.

Today, the president gets negative scores of 10 - 88 percent from Republicans, 31 - 59 percent from independent voters, 37 - 57 percent from men and 42 - 49 percent from women. Democrats approve 79 - 13 percent.

The president gets mixed grades for character as voters say 48 - 48 percent that he is honest and trustworthy and 51 - 47 percent that he cares about their needs and problems. He gets a negative 47 - 51 percent for leadership qualities.

The economy and jobs are the most important problems facing the country today, 35 percent of voters say, with 12 percent listing politicians/campaigns/corruption, 6 percent each for healthcare and foreign affairs, 5 percent for the budget and 4 percent each for education and immigration.

There is absolutely no question that this foreign policy is truly the worst in this country's history. The situations in Iraq, Syria, and Ukraine have proven Obama's team to be completely ineffective, with Putin and al-Qaeda absolutely routing him. Domestic policy is in shambles and partisanship is at an all time high -- not surprising given that legislators do not like taking orders from those who they consider inferior and Obama treats the opposition with scorn and derision. Remember when he ran on "reaching across the aisle"? What a joke. If not for easy money from the Federal Reserve (which is driving the stock market higher), Obama would have been kicked out of office by now.

America's current situation is the predictable result of low information, irresponsible, anti-intellectual, anti-personal accountability voters showing up en masse to vote for their own self-interest (more handouts). Remember, if only law abiding, income tax paying voters voted in 2012, Romney would have received 440 electoral votes (270 = 51%). Think about that. Our political system was set up assuming that voters are informed and responsible. They no longer are.

Let's review. Bush supervised 9/11, the worst terrorist attack in American history and never caught the mastermind even at one point said he wasn't truly concerned about Bin Laden. Initiated the Patriot Act, the biggest invasion of privacy in American history. Oversaw the biggest financial calamity since the great depression as well as the biggest government bailout. Created the biggest bureaucracy in American history with homeland security. Oversaw Katrina, perhaps the biggest failure of government disaster response in American history. Doubled the national debt in his term. Nearly doubled the unemployment rate under his watch. Initiated two wars costing well over a trillion dollars and thousands of American lives as well as hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives.

    Poll is legit!

    Ofcourse it is legit.

On top of that, people in general are negative about a leader during his term. You have to wait a couple of years before people start being positive.

Recency bias FTW. And what a surprise, the 33% exactly coincides with the 33% of self-identified Republican/conservatives.

The sad fact is that most people can't name more than 2 or 3 presidents since WWII - it's like asking them what their favorite noble gas is.

    XENON! NO WAIT IT'S ARGON!

    Seriously.

The other day they were talking about when Bush I started the Gulf War in like 2000 or something. This was on sports talk.

and here come the liberal excuses

The absolute most hilarious ones: Bush "Supervised" 9/11 and is to blame for Katrina! LMAO

Obama has been a complete failure. Incredibly disappointing. If it weren't for the Fed goosing the stock market higher, Obama would have single digit approval ratings.

Or you can say Obama has been a complete victory, preventing a teabag House from making any of their stupidity into permanent law.
    Executive Obstructionism!

The fact of the matter though is that the 1% has teabagged the government into total dysfunction, good bad or indifferent nothing is happening on the domestic front. Trying to judge that a success or failure is moot. The full on propaganda attack from the FAUX nation
has influence a significant share of public opinion but like Dr. Santiago up there, there's never any real substance to the criticism, just generalized "he bad".

Internationally, the chickenhawks call the Executive a failure but the fact is, we have no new wars. We are managing Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan pretty well considering they are parts of a wider Islamic civil war that we have no allies in. The world will always be in a constant state of crisis, but as long as thousands of Americans aren't dying we are doing as good as we can hope for.

No President since WW2 has had an internal propaganda machine turned against him.
There was opposition and dissent, and a lot of it vitriolic, but never have there been national talking points issued and echoed throughout a whole network of television, print and the web.

And how would people who never lived through other Presidencies judge them? High School history class? Where is LBJ on there, he ended civil discrimination.

Ugh, propaganda parading as informed opinion. orwell would be saying I told you so.

Recency bias, along with: horn, negative emphasis, stereotyping, first-impression error, and (not) similar-to-me error as well.

    But who's counting?

While Katrina victims are dying in the streets, no food or water.

    ^^

Obama's poll numbers at the same point in his presidency were lower than Bush's AFTER Katrina.

    Ooops. There goes your theory.

Obama's been even worse. The poll respondents agree with me.

It Makes you wonder about the people in this country. Obama is not a great president but he is hardly the worst president since WWII. He is an OK president in my books.

The president who "hasn't accomplished one single thing. Name one single thing he's actually done!" has also "done so much damage he may have destroyed this country."

I don't think he's a good president, but I think most presidents are pretty blah. We have very few who go much beyond just being average.

What was my theory? That a white President that screws everything up so badly that it has decades long repercussions is always going to score better with old white people, ie Republicans, than a black guy who's a mediocre President? Okay, there goes my theory. I've never seen half the country actively trying to sabotage anything a President tries to get done. It's amazing.

Damn you've like fallen into some abyss of dumb even more so than usual. I thought you were a Rice grad? Maybe the standards there are overrated. That's a shame.

I don't think much of it has to do with race.

It's more about Obama being the first president in this new era of communication. It's so much easier now than even 8 years ago to foster hate, fear, etc.

Your theory that Bush was worse due to 9/11 and Katrina. Nope.

And what's with the racial rage you introduced into this thread? Why go there? Since you went there, Obama is mixed race (half white / half black). It's disrespectful to the mixed race community to call him black.
