Bite the bullet, i think the rockets will get cwebb this offseason for these reasons: 1.we have the cash 2.houston has more talent then sacramento..i mean stars like francis, mobes compared to stojakovic..(not records). 3.rudyt is a well respected players coach and the rockets are a well respected organization. 4.many players reside here in the offseason..ie westside and fonde 5. he has relatives here..granted distant ones..feel free to respond to my reasons, assessment..opinions are wanted ------------------ How Sweet It Is! Since this is speculation: If we have to take on Reeves, I'd have misgivings. If we get Shareef and Reeves goes to another team, then DO IT, DO IT, DO IT. Giving a pick to Vancouver (presumably Milwaukee's), would leave us with a mid-teen pick, unless Orlando or Detroit gives us a pick, which we can't count on. I mention this ad nauseum because I hope for Shareef. Chicago needs our cooperation because the Bulls' #1 draft pick is locked up without us waving the magic wand. If I may quote from Sporting News, "Caught on the Fly": "The Spies say answers to teams' trade inquiries prove the Grizzlies're trying to clear cap space, knowing no free agent wants to play in Vancouver. That can only mean Mike Heisley's about to make a push to move the team to St. Loo." My latest wild hypothesis is based on this: 1. Does Hakeem want to retire? Would he mind a half season in Vancouver? Maybe he'd enjoy the time with family before either retiring or testing the market next year. (Hey, if he really wants to do what's best for the team...) 2. Does Chicago want Reeves? I hope so. Don't know. Maybe someone does. 3. Remember how Miami denied looking into trading for Dream but mentioned talks with Houston? This week, certain Heat players whose contracts end this year become trade-available (and I don't mean Mason and Jones: try Ceballos, Green, etc.) Maybe Cato and Los to Miami....using Bryce Drew trade exception... 4. We owe Vancouver a pick this year, anyway. Period. 5. Anyone want to trade up in the draft? Me, too. But with what? It'll be a strong draft, we have only Cato to dangle and one or two picks in the teens. No one would let us trade up last year. And that was in a semi-weak draft. If you're talking Hakeem + Walt + pick(s) for Reef and Reeves, I don't know. If we can help Vancouver get 20 million under the cap, give them picks to rebuild, get Reef, help Miami advance in the playoffs, get Chicago a player they need, and even wind up with some decent cha-ching for Mo, well, do it. Mo should play center for us. He doesn't board well. But he shoots very well (not tonight, but overall). Keeps the lanes open. If we have a rebounder/scorer like Reef, what ass we would kick. Remember, THIS IS ALL "LET'S-PRETEND." I can't propose a 4-team trade. I can dream. Some smaller-scale version of the above points might or might not happen. ------------------
In another thread of Jeff's "Hakeem a Rocket --- For Now," Clutch provides a bit of transcript from Les Alexander, who double-talks with the best of them. On one hand, looks like Hakeem will stay. On the other, looks like he might not. Ah, well, this is the speculation thread. ------------------
That is correct, but we could have probably gotten Tracy McGrady from them instead of Doug Christie if we wanted. Man, could you imagine this lineup... PG-Francis/Miller SG-McGrady/Mobley SF-Marion/Anderson PF-Taylor/Thomas C-Willis/Cato This team would have so many weapons, we could be a title contender, but it just wasn't our time. I would rather still have Hakeem because he is the reason why I became such an avid fan. ------------------ http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/houstonrockets2000
Okay, I'll end all this BS with one lineup had the Rockets traded Ralph Sampson to Portland: Olajuwon Barkley Horry Drexler Jordan ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
I don´t know where people came up with this idea that if we trade Hakeem the franchise´s reputation as far as the free agent market goes is ruined and no one will ever come to Houston again. NY shipped Ewing´s ass out of town and that hasn´t stopped Webber one bit from wanting to be reunited with his buddy Sprewell, which is probably where he will end up after all, just like the Grant/Kemp trade. It´s called a sound business decision. I´m not saying, ship Hakeem for a couple of scrubs, but if the right deal presents itself (SAR) send him their way. Hakeem has overstayed his welcome a lot with his latest statements. Oh, and all this talk about hakeem staying put and how Les couldn´t imagine him playing for another team is just working the PR machine. I still remember Doc Rocket saying that a deal WAS on the table, that the other team pulled it off and that it was a KICK ASS deal for us. Remember Clutch´s "Brace yourselves, a deal is going down?" So, make no mistake about it, for the right offer, Hakeem is GONE. What seems more likely is that Les has convinced Hakeem to keep his wishes of getting out somewhat low profile for the moment, as it would benefit the Rockets in negotiations, leading intersted teams to up their offers. Meanwhile, Cato rehabs, and Hakeem´s job is to help us get some more wins to try and keep the playoffs within striking distance. That´s my take on this mess. ------------------ "Dream another dream, this dream is over... Dream another dream, this dream is over... just my opinion, but....Webber is using houston to make sure Sac-towns pays the max at seasons end. and i'm sure if he gets no assurances of help in the off-season free agents pool....he's off to new york. i'd put my three month's salary on it. with that said ( ...and the fact that Olajuwan is not going anywhere until the off-season ), i heard Dale Davis wants out of Portland i wonder if they would take Cato back with KT thrown it for Dale and maybe Stacy Augmon... pf: Mo-Tay/Hakeem/Williams/Bullard sf: Anderson/Augmon/Langhi/Bullard c: Davis/Collier/Hakeem pg: Francis/Norris sg: Cat/Francis/Langhi just dreaming...... ------------------ cynthia don't go!!! i miss you already
Thanos, you're right about Hakeem. His body language says, "They can make me do this, but I don't have to like it." If he sticks around, I really wonder about team chemistry (let alone unity). ------------------
Marion went #9. We would not have picked him at #5, and would've been unable to pick him at 12. At #5, we would've looked at Bender and Sczerbiak. At #12, either the center or Maggette. ROXTXIA-We DO NOT owe Vancouver a pick this year. Only if we make the playoffs, and with every loss, that's looking bleaker. If not, we have another year. I think what we're looking at right now is a multi-team trade. Something that would work with waiving Hakeem, and then trading guys like Walt/Los and maybe even Cato (depending on return) for guys in the last years of contracts and a couple of decent young big men. I'd tell Phoenix that Hakeem is yours if you give us Tsakalidis and free agents for Walt and Los, or get them for us in a 3-way deal. Tskalidis starting yesterday against Detroit-22 minutes, 9 points, 11 boards, 5 blocks. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
I'm too hungover to read and see if this has been mentioned, but Marc Jackson isn't that great of a defensive player. ------------------ "Hockey is a sport for white men. Basketball is a sport for black men. Golf is a sport for white men dressed like black pimps." -- Tiger Woods
