    Here are the 10 most outrageous whoppers, as reported by hiring managers:

    1. Candidate claimed to be a member of the Kennedy family

    2. Applicant invented a school that did not exist

    3. Job seeker submitted a résumé with someone else's photo inserted into the document

    4. Candidate claimed to be a member of Mensa

    5. Applicant claimed to have worked for the hiring manager before, but never had

    6. Job seeker claimed to be the CEO of a company when he was an hourly employee

    7. Candidate listed military experience dating back to before he was born

    8. Job seeker included samples of work, which were actually those of the interviewer

    9. Applicant claimed to be Hispanic when he was 100 percent Caucasian

    10. Candidate claimed to have been a professional baseball player

    • Describe a situation in which you were able to use persuasion to successfully convince someone to see things your way.
    • Describe a time when you were faced with a stressful situation that demonstrated your coping skills.

    • Give me an example of a time when you set a goal and were able to meet or achieve it.
    • Tell me about a time when you had to use your presentation skills to influence someone's opinion.

    • Please discuss an important written document you were required to complete.
    • Tell me about a time when you had to go above and beyond the call of duty in order to get a job done.
    • Tell me about a time when you had too many things to do and you were required to prioritize your tasks.

    Well the first round of interviews went by yesterday. Thanks for all your input.

    1. It feels better being on the other side of the interview process.

    2. I cannot believe the answers to some of the questions asked. :D :eek:

    Do you have any Asian in you? Would you like some?

    As for the greatest strengths, weaknesses one... those are lame. The answers are always 'My greatest strength is I am a hard worker.' And then (after a fake silence to show them thinking real hard about it) 'My biggest weakness is I work too hard sometimes'

    I interview and hire on a regular basis- My approach has worked well.

    I simply ask them what was their favorite episode of The Office?

    1. If they don't watch it- no hire
    2. If they have seen it but don't remember- maybe
    3. If they can describe it in detail and laugh about it- hire them












    Seriously-
    A good interviewer should know what he is trying to find out first.

    Ask yourself what you really need to know and want to know to find the best candidate for the job.

    For the position you described generally-

    I think work history is vital- if they have hopped around jobs you better clear that up.

    I often tell a candidate that everyone gives me 'that ' answer when they tell what all they can do for you...
    then I ask them to give me a reference that can validate their work habits.

    Over the years I have found personal references to be powerful hedges against bad hires.

    I sit on a board that interviews potential firefighters for the city i work for.. Probably the best question is simply what are your weakness... if someone cannot admit they have weakness that means there gonna be hard to train them because they think they are always right..

    Also the question that there is no right answer to is .. So your at work and your friend steals say a candy bar from a coworkers desk... what do you do .. if they say report it to a supervisor then you say so your a snitch.. and if they say ill just talk to that person then you come back with your not gonna report a crime to a boss.. that kinda question doesnt have a right answer but itll show how they think in a hard situation...

    Really? I'm surprised by that. Why would they put down a reference if they are going to speak poorly of them?

    Please elaborate. I'd love to hear what some of them have said.

    these are so generic people typically have prepared answers for them
